It's kind of stupid to ask the question why they remade it and didn't just release the original in the states. The reason is money. They thought hey let's make a remake of rec and cash in on it.
dude I hear what your saying, but I disagree letter box pisses on me when I'm trying to watch a movie I'd rather watch the film full screen. Letter box makes me feel like I'm missing half the picture so I have to zoom its kinda annoying and an inconvenience. They shouldn't really of made a remake but that's only because its in subtitles which is also an inconvenience I read well but I'm missing half the crazy shit that's going on because I'm trying to read the fucking subtitles. write back!
Saw about 20 minutes of it on the bigscreen before it gave me motion sickness. Luckilly I have it on dvd now. But film theatres should give you warnings.
In general, remakes tend to suck- But there have been some good ones over the years (Carpenters THE THING, f'r'instance.) However, I agree, remaking a foreign film shot for shot just for US release is stupid and pointless.
John Carpenter's The Thing is a great film I watch it everytime it's on TV even though I have the DVD of it. It's the best example of a quality remake too, but sadly there is going to be a remake of the remake coming sometime soon. Hollywood truly has run out of ideas and lost it's imagination.
Yeah, I'd heard about plans for a THING remake, and threw up in my mouth a little. Here's an idea that's SLIGHTLY less bankrupt, Hollywood- A sequel that continues the premise! Was Childs the Thing? Did he and MacReady get rescued, or did they freeze? At least there's a little imagination there. But NOOOO!
[REC] is an awesome horror movie and it was typical for the US to remake it instead of just releasing the original. As for this guy saying "Diary of the Dead" sucked...I have to disagree I liked it, sure it wasn't anywhere near the quality of Night of..., Dawn of..., or Day of..., but I do think it was a hell of a lot better than Land of the Dead.
I left the movie theater after 17 minutes. The shaky camera gave me a splitting headache. If u have this condition, watch it on DVD. But, very effective movie.
Lol yeah I hate movies made on like cameras. I agree about the subtitles and how neat would it be to see subtitles in maybe spanish at the movie theaters? Maybe not at every theather but at least at theaters in hispanic populated neighborhoods. Altough im sure some one would mess it up and we'd end up with french subtitles, I dont understand why almost evey movie comes with french subtitles and language and yet spanish gets a big middle finger by most movies.
Definitely should be a law demanding people to watch letterbox and subtitled films. Problem is..here in the U.S our population is so dumbed down that many cant read or read fast enough to use subtitles. I would rather have subtitles than some horrible dub.
I don't think all remakes are crap, there are some solid ones, but "Quarantine" was just a waste of time... remade shot by shot, and still it isn't as good as "REC" which I had the pleasure of seeing before watching "Quarantine" so I enjoyed it even more. Great flick. They should just release them subtitled.
thank god someone else hates that stupid remake. Everyone i know kept raving on how amazing quarintine is. I had to set them straight and show them the original. What was worse is when the dvd came out, the cover art is the last scene in the movie so you all ready know how it ends.

"Quarantine" is like Mexico's answer to "I am Legend " meets "Blair Witch Project".

I had good friends who actually wouldn't go with me to see Pan's Labyrinth just because it had subtitles. Good friends.
