Anacani is a pretty lady and sings quite well, but she's NOT in the league of Nana!

Nana has proven to be the best lady singer singing in most western languages (her native language is Greek) and the lagest variete of songs. She has a very trained voice and natural compassion, which shows in her singing. She has thrilled listeners with her songs for over 50 years, until her retirement last year.

Resulta muy raro que una canciòn que supuestamente escribio un español, esté tan identificada con México,tanto que aqui y en muchas partes es considerada como mexicana. A ello debe contribuir el hecho de que las frases son muy propìas de la forma en que aún hablan muchos mexicanos, sobre todo gente del campo. Por otro lado, para quienes conozcan las formas cómo se habla en España, dificialmente encontraran alguna semejanza con el sentimiento y expresión de esta Paloma tan mexicana.

MIra, este ritmo procede de Cuba, cuando era una provincia (que no colonia) española y se llama "habanera". Este tipo de cancion dulce y melodica se puso de moda a mediados del siglo XIX (nada menos), quizá por ello ves la forma de habalr diferente a la actual, pero no tiene nada de mexicana.

En la opera Carmen, escrita en aquella epoca hay otra habanera famosisima.

Creo que en Mexico teneis suficiente musica maravillosa ( para mi la mejor en castellano) con vuestras rancheras...

La paloma, la bamba. cielito lindo, es musica mexicana, que otros paises dicen que les pertenece. La melodia y aun letra ya existia en México, como musica popular desde ante que el visitara Cuba. Que ese espanol se quizo adueñar de la paloma, es otra cosa.

Sebastián Iradier fue el escritor y compositor de la canción LA PALOMA. Nació en ESPAÑA en Lanciego, Alava en 1809 y murió 1865.Luego de visitar Cuba en 1861 regresó a España y escribió LA PALOMA en 1862 dos años antes de morir en el olvido. NO ES UNA CANCION MEXICANA.

Esta cancion es de un tipo llamado "habanera", de moda en el siglo XIX, y no tiene nada de mejicana... es de Cuba, pero de cuando era provincia española.

As far as I know, Nana is still alive, I hope so... I meant that she would be missed from the world stage, now that she has retired. We have seen her on stage about 14 times over the years, when she was in her prime. We also went back stage and met her, a very charming and gracious lady with a sense of humour.
