  • I love how they moved like two feet on the boat ;)

  • Colm Wilkinson= what a legend

  • This man is by far the best Phantom I've ever heard and seen. Superb voice and amazing acting... In the "All I ask of you" reprise, one moment you really feel pitty for him at his sorrow, and the next you are terrified to death by his anger.

  • eww that phantom looks like a total pedo

  • @MsXxxKittiexxx he is supposed to be a total pedo

  • @sirspamsalot2 omg yur right

  • @MsXxxKittiexxx um. okay. colm wilkinson is an amazing actor and singer. care to explain why you think he is a pedo...?

  • @NintendoNerdist1 i dunno becuz he looks 50 years old and has a beard and she looks young so he looks pedo

  • @MsXxxKittiexxx They just twelve years apart! we can clearly see that it is in his forties and he is in his fifties.

  • @MsXxxKittiexxx he is suppose to look a lot older than christine however colm was playing valjean in canada and also later in the show so he needed the beard so with out the beard it wouldnt look so odd

  • My heart broke at Colm's weeping in the All I Ask Reprise. He is such an amazing actor and singer.

  • Chills, chills...... chills. Through the whole thing.

  • Where was "All I Ask of You" between Michael Ball and Lisa Vroman?

  • @Reveredjedi They cut it from the DVD>

  • Bom pra caramba, xacramenta

  • i love her voice! and Mr Wilkinson has always been, and will alaways be THE phantom. to me.

  • Michael Crawford Ramlin Kamiloo and COLM WILKINSON in my opinion are the best PHANTOMS ever

  • @MrJORGERAMOS123 you should hear anthony warlow, he was in the australian production and he is incredible, the best there ever was :)

  • 5:06.....holy crap

  • I'm loving all the comments on Colm's beard. Such strong opinions against his performance & the beard, but little consideration for the why. Its funny to see the beard, but he was doing another show. Colm is my favorite Phantom. Crawford plays the Phantom as a pedophile. Colm plays him as a damaged man. Powerful, sensitive, hurt, angry, selfish, and scary. When doing the show, one minute I wanted to hide and the next hug him. He made me love and hate the Phantom, which to me is the point.

  • funny or country also have the best Donna sheridan players (m from Mamma mia) say by One of the ABBA man ho is tyhe father of Mamma mia

  • Gerard Butler from the movie version & Michael Crawford are the 2 best Phantoms and NOT COLM WILKINSON! HA HA!

  • @Concertchoir76 And the dutch player Henk Poort. becouse Webber and staf of the pantom Named him and Michael Crafort the best Phantom players. It was told him in pursun.

  • Wonderful phantom performer, such a beautiful and emotional voice =)

  • phantoms don't have beards

  • @L1C1T1: He was still doing "Les Mis" on stage when he did this. This was a special performance, as he retired as the Phantom years ago. He wasn't going to shave his beard for a day and have 25 minutes to grow a full on for the "Les Mis" performance later in this production.

  • Colm can sure belt out that G#!

  • Personally, I think Wilkinson's performance is the most sexual I've ever heard. Very seductive. Michael Crawford is good, but there is a ghoulish nature to his voice at the same time... He's not a REAL phantom... He's still a human... Modern day actors playing Phantom are VERY heavily operatic which I think takes some of what Colm has out of the song.

  • Colm Wilkinson made an awesome phantom

  • It was written for him to sing and it shows! Colm Wilkinson is by FAR the best Phantom. . . so much better than all the rest.

  • @seattleoperaguy actually the song was written for Sarah Brightman originally.

  • the best phantom for me.

  • Colm was actually the oiginal phantom because he did the worshop at sydmington! I personally think he kicks Michael Crawfords butt!!!!

  • I wish I could watch it once again! So amazing!!!

  • Who is playing Christine??

  • @maestas96 I'm pretty sure that's Lisa Vroman. She played the part in San Francisco and on Broadway.

  • @maestas96 lisa vroman

  • Great performances. The Phantom character has to be way older than the girl for the tension to work. Why did they cast a young hunk with a gritty voice in the movie which took the story way off course? The director must not have read the original story and ALW should have left his masterpiece alone. Now I await the expected profanity laced blowback from the wing nuts out there who can't abide ANY critique of the movie as if their own identities depend on only good reviews.

  • @audiesgirl I agree entirely. He's a mentor-like figure who falls in love with her, rather than a lover with a mask.

  • MC is the best, i love GB too! This girls amazing!

  • I Am So Looking for this Song but than with Ramin,,,Can`t find it annywhere,,Does Someone have that version?

  • @koffiemokie I do, contact me x

  • i think gerard butler had the best all i ask of you reprise, especially the end of it

  • It's nice to have the captions, I just can't understand Christine's words at the high notes.

  • Needs a beard I suppose.........

And yes I am aware that COlm was playing Jean Valjean later that night

  • The Phantom looks wierd with a beard but I do love Colm, he is amazing

  • ok sorry, what's with the hat, cuz it's not working....

  • I'm not sure what you mean... He wears that hat in the scene in the actual production... Check out some photos...

  • @oneworldguy Sorry, I didn't mean to write my previous comment to you. =-)

  • @22alethea That hat actually works because it was the type of hat that the Phantom wore in the original storybook.

  • Is this really sarah Brightman? she doesnt sound the same as i always heard her... and cool! Colm Wilkinson as the phantom!

  • Lisa Vroman is singing not SB

  • ah, thank you ^^ i KNEW it couldnt be her, she's still really good, though '.'

  • Comment removed

  • Woooow Jean Valjean with a Mask!!

  • Sarah Is The best for this song

    Sarah You're The Only one

  • so funny seeing valjean as phantom! but fantastic job!

  • I've heard better performances by Colm. He seems off here. Not sure how to put it other than that.

  • I cannot believe that any human could logistically hit that note at the end of the first song.

    But she KILLED IT!

    WOW!

  • Great concert! But I just don't know about CW as the Phantom...it's like watching Jean Valjean vacationing in London...

  • Colm Wilkinson is good, no doubt about it, and he is the definitive Valjean. But Michael Crawford is the definitive Phantom. End of story. (At least in my opinion).

  • @jazzy1260 Agreed 100% No one can beat Crawford.

  • best phantom iv seen so far is rob lorey

  • I am actually a huge fan of Colm Wilkinson. His beard is a bit out there but it jus tmakes me him more unique than any other Phantom. Him, Hugh Parnaro, and Michael Crawford are 3 of the best Phantom's around in my opinion. Lisa Vroman though is a wonderful Christine.

  • I'm sorry, Michael Crawford is the definitive Phantom. Colm was okay as Valjean, but he just seems to be trying too hard in phantom.

  • Hey I agree with you...Michael is the best Phantom. I just like Colm. I can understand the trying too hard...cause he does.

  • I think Gerrard Butler did a great job as the Phantom too.

  • Lisa Vroman is wonderful, Michael Ball is one of my favorite Raouls, but I must say I am not a Colm Wilkinson fan. His voice doesn't have enough power behind it for my tastes. He does the big notes like the MOTN "be" and the AIAOY final "you" just fine, but the verses leading up to them ("let your mind..." and "you will curse...") weren't great. He's rather inconsistant.

I just prefer Phantoms will more consistency and power (i.e. John Owen Jones or Gary Mauer). This is just my opinion.

  • And don't even get me started on the beard.

  • Colman wilkinson's beard gets me EVERY TIME. I'm just like is he serious. You've got the mask on. You've got the cape. She's in a CORSET. Shave your freaken beard!!!

Lisa vroman kicked ass on broadway, and she rocks here too.

  • She walks and sings at the same time...WOW

  • he does a awsome job but the gotee really irritates me. I could accept a mustash but a full gotee seems kinda weird on the phantom.

  • I know it is strange, but he got stuck between a rock and a hard place here.... He also performed songs from Les Miserables that same night at this concert and the beard is practically a trademark in that role.

  • I'm not an expert on singing, but this man's performance at least is magnificent - the way he commands Christine to sing is chilling!

  • Please don't hate me for this, he's a good singer, I just think his voice is a bit to low for the phantom.

  • He's a tenor, I believe. Because he played the part of Jean Valjean in Les Miserables and that's a tenor part. But, hey-that's your opinion. I'm not trying to say you're wrong, I'm just offering my opinion in response.

  • I think these are Colm Winkinson and Rebecca Caine...the cast who went to Canada....

    In my opinion

Crawford sings the best 'The Music of the Night' cause his voice just so 'phantom'!

but some of the songs...Colm sings better...

  • I really wish everyone would leave Michael Crawford out of Colm Wilkinson's video!

  • is the girl who played cosette in the TAC in here it looks like it

  • Great performances.

  • Then tell the Colm fans to get a life "jc19940" and quit commenting on Michael on a Colm video. I do respect both guys and have seen both perform live! How many of the people dragging Michaels name onto this site have EVER seen MC perform live? Plus tell the Wilkinson fans to stay off of Michaels sites and get a life and quit trying to promote CW on the MC sites! I honestly do respect both guys and did truly enjoy Wilkinson as Valjean!

  • So sorry but Michael Crawford just is the Phantom and just suits the role perfectly. Michael was outstanding and brilliant as the tortured Phantom. I respect both guys but Michael mixed emotion, vocals and acting beautifully and won a ton of awards because of that. I do agree though that Michael was a better Barnum then Jim Dale who was still quite good though. MC won a Olivier award for both Barnum and Phantom.

  • Crawford is amazing in the role and I'm sorry I never got to see him perform on stage. Would like to have seen EFX too.

  • Nah, you don't sound sorry at all. I suggest you honestly get off all the Colm vids if all you are here for is promotion of Crawford. Stop commenting every week and get a life. Colm was selected for the original phantom, which he turned down in favour of Valjean. However, everyone has a right to their own opinion, but you should leave yours to Crawford vids, not come here and try to convert every person that is here of their own will to listen to colm.

  • Sorry "Krisathelas". Michael is way better then Colm. Now respect both guys like I do. I saw Michael Crawford( unlike you ) and he deserves to called a living legend for Phantom. Michael sang this song just as deep as Wilkinson but didn't have a weird accent or over the top vibrato. Michael seduced you with his singing and sensuality. Love Colms Valjean and will always respect his talent in general but Michael was perfection as the Phantom as well as in "Barnum".

  • is sorry that's so not true Colm Wilkinson IS the Phantom he just suits the role so much and Micheal Crawford is great But Colm Wilkinson is just the better.

And Crawford is better as Barnum Than J.Dale

  • who is christine in this???

  • her name is Lisa Vroman. Shes wonderful.

  • it's all lovely except colm's beard kinda ruins the whole illusion for me...no offense

  • I agree.

  • To the person below who wrote that Colm was the original Phantom, that is actually incorrect. Michael Crawford was the original Phantom along with Sarah Brightman as Christine. Andrew Lloyd Webber cast Michael after hearing him sing at the same voice teacher as Sarah who was Andrews wife at the time.

    Colm is wonderful though.

  • You are wrong my dear. Colm was the orginal Phantom... but not in West end or Broadway. In 1986 when Andrew was writing the musical he had a diffrent lyric writer and the lyrics isn't what we listen to today. Andrew owns a big house in England where he allways has a opening night of all musicals he has written. He ony invites his friends and family. Sarah was playing Christine and Colm Phantom, that was the first Phantom of Opera!

  • Thank God someone else knows this stuff :D

  • you are correct about colm being the phantom in the workshops, but michael crawford is the original phantom because he performed the part in the first professional production. hope that helps.

  • Source or it didn't happen. That is how the internet works.

  • I am the original Phantom !!!!..........sorry, I just felt the need to say that.

  • At least I knew that.

  • In all actuallity , I was the orginal Christine. Did you know she's a drag queen ?

Okay in all seriousness. Colm Wilkinson and Michael Ball got to do two differnt plays in Hey Mr. producer. Talk about talent.

  • the person below is actually right. Colm was indeed the original Phantom, but he only performed it at Andrew's Sydmonton festival and later in the Canadian production alongside Rebecca Caine as Christine. many cast members of the original Les Miz were also involved in the one act Sydmonton festival as well. i don't mean to sound like a know it al, just trying to support the truth. thank you for listening!

  • Colm Wilkinson is the Original Phantom, Jean Valjean and Dr.Jekyll in Jekyll & Hyde the Gothic Musical and just brillient in all three roles

  • Michael was the Original Phantom - only an idiot would deny that.

and depending how you look at it - Anthony Warlow was the first one to sing Dr Jekyll - he created it on the concept album

that said I have absolutely no problem with Colm - just people making ludicrous false statements.....

  • @fatheranthony4pope I'm not an idiot and i'm denying it. We all know Colm was the original Phantom, but just not the one who opened in London. ( I know Michael Crawford was the "original" Phantom) He just sang in Andrew's Sydmoton Festival way before it was a musical.

  • @MyArtIsLoved731 well I am sorry, but singing a song in a concert is very different to performing in a show, because in one you sing as yourself - as Colm did in concert, and in the other you perform as a charcater as Michael did in the show. ergo Colm may have sung the songs first, but Michael was the original Phantom because he was the first to perform the character. People need to differentiate between concerts and shows. Big difference.

  • @fatheranthony4pope I think differently than you, and so whoever sang or done it first was just the original. Plus, in that festival, he acts as the Phantom, so ya..

  • @fatheranthony4pope Plus, it was not concert, he actually sang the whole musical in the festival. He acted with Rebecca Caine.

  • Michael is the original phantom

  • No that was Lisa Vroman..

  • omg i can hit the high note!!! i have been teaching my self to do that!!!!omg

  • omg me tooo! only if you kick me below the belt......

  • Omg, Its so strange I agree to see Colm in this role... However his voice is perfect as the Phantom! :) :P

  • AmyHoneyBunny, you should have seen him in the full production! I saw him in Toronto! He was the original Phantom of the Opera in the Toronto cast. That production ran for 10 years.

  • Comment removed

  • why phantom is here like 60?

  • Because Colm Wilkinson was the original phantom in it's first ever performance before the west end. Not to mention, christine looks like shes pushin fourty anyway :P proper mam on the town!

  • Is that Rebecca Caine?

  • No, Lisa Vroman

  • Ah, thank you.

  • No problem.

  • *sigh* I love Michael Ball....

  • Is this one of the earlier actresses for Christine? In the beginning I thought she sounded a bit too mature, since Christine is kind of a young, naive character.

It IS weird seeing Colm in this. He has such a recognizable voice - a Les Mis staple.

  • Has Michael Ball ever played Raoul before? I just realised how good a Raoul he would make; he has the perfect voice for it.

  • technically, the Phantom is supposed to be about 50, and i think Christine is about 20, so it kinda works.

  • ravenwing110 is correct.

Let's not forget that the Phantom is about the same age as Madame Giry; Madame Giry has a daughter who is about the same age as Christine. So the Phantom is supposed to be about the age that a father-figure would be.

  • That's going by the movie, which, considered by most Phans, is far from canon. I wouldn't trust the train wreck of a film made by Joel Schumacher to determine how old the Phantom should be.

Colm Wilkinson did this role very well, though.

  • @tom34ato Actually, Christine is about 20, while Meg was 13! In the book of course.

  • @MyArtIsLoved731 in the musical, Christine is 18 while Meg is 15.

  • FYI the phantom of the opera goes through 400 pounds of dry ice per show!

  • interesting fact there :D

    haha

  • I agree, I think the phantom's voice should be deeper. But Gary mauer will always be my favorite =)

  • it's so weird to see Colm in this part, i'm so used to him in Les Miserables. it's like some weird play combination of the two. sorry Colm, you'll always be Jean Valjean to me, not the phantom (who doesn't have a beard). the vocals are good, as i personally believe that, while Michael Crawford was good, the phantom should have a deeper voice like Colm.

  • Oh.. the beard kinda puts me off. Great vocals though :)

  • I wish Colm would shave the beard but other than that noone can beat him in vocal performance for power and gentlness all in one

  • He had to play Valjean later in that concert, so it would either be a beardless Valjean or a bearded phantom.

  • HAHA a beardless Valjean would just be too weird.

  • Lisa Vroman FTW

  • Isn't Colm something like how Sean Connery would sound if he could sing?

But I think he pulls of the Phantom quite well, like he would of course, being the awesome singer that he is. It's his interpretations that I sometimes find questionable or at least to me doubtful.

  • well those of you who have seen the current phantom, ramin karimloo, would agree that he is just BRILLIANT.

he brings his own fresh spin to the character as well

  • Sorry. Colm is better than Crawford. :)

  • This is a shame. I always imagined Colm would be a decent phantom. This is disappointing. There is just too much "Valjean" in him.

  • You think exactly like do! Just saw Colm as phantom for first time on youtube and was bit disappointed. However, watch it again trying not to think of valjean lol! Its all coz hes too good as valjean lol!¬

  • Colm played the Phantom like in the VERY first workshop of this show...The More You Know!

  • I feel like I'm watching Jean Valjean in a white mask

  • you are!!

  • i like his "Go!" here

  • hehe, just an opinion, he looks like jack nicholson here...

  • MC's still the best phantom ever!

  • I know Colm had to wear the beard for Les Mis but it's sooo distracting haha

  • yah.. the phantom to wear a beard? duh..

  • If that was me, I really would have been petrified of him. Listening to this, you can hear him dropping heavily on the notes at the end of almost every line.

    "Floa - TING

    Fal - LING

    Sweet intoxica - TION."

    Annoying.

Anthony Warlow exceeds Colm and Crawford by light years'; as does Roy Weissensteiner, might I add. I recommend Warlow and Weissensteiner. No, you won't find the Aus cast on disc; but I'm attempting to get the show officially recorded, so you just never know ...

  • And at, "Let your mind start a journey..." the music swells and his timing's all over the shop. It's painful. Painful.

  • Hey look coco; our honest opinions upset the masses.

  • I see this.

YouTube users, be honest with yourselves. Can't you hear how out of time Colm is with the orchestra at 4:48? I am not making a personal attack on him; I am simply stating facts. There's something wrong if you can't admit when your favourite performer makes a mistake.

  • I guess he assumes the entire orchestra will just follow HIM...LOL

  • Well, to be fair, the orchestra *should* follow the performer's lead but in this case he just sang so quickly... You can hear them trying to catch up. XDDDD

  • Anthony and Roy for the win!

  • i am sure this is Lisa Vroman performing with Colm

  • Colm is Awesome!!

  • she sings that high d# so effortlessly...amazing.

  • I've seen her on tour she is firkin amazing! I've also met her she is very nice and caring person.

  • I recommend everyone listening to the Phantom of the Opera - Original Candian Cast Recording (that's the one Colm's in)

  • Agreed.. Raw and very powerful

  • I saw this on a cruise ship and thought the sampling of shows was great!

  • I saw this on a cruise ship and thought the sampling of shows was great!

  • In this clip, Colm is the perfect Phantom, his voice is so sensual & mysterious. Thanx for posting
