  • the name of this sound is RUN RUN RUN,the PASSI `N THRU álbum

  • Anyone who thinks Joe Walsh had a good lead vocal hasn't listened to many good singers in 70's rock. I would have picked Kenner over Walsh any day. The performances of Walk Away and Funk #49 on DKRC were so much better than the ones in the Walsh era.

  • Roy Kenner had an ideal voice for this kind of track, of which there are several on the "Passin' Thru" album. His problem was that he also had to sing the Walsh-era material on stage because the audience demanded it, and he wasn't particularly good at doing so. This difficulty was compounded by the fact that Walsh was often touring at the same time, and performing Funk #49 etc with his own band just the way people wanted to hear it. A no-win situation for this version of the band.

  • I saw the James Gang in Dover Delaware, Wesley College, 1972, right after Domenic Troiano replaced Joe Walsh. Excellent concert!

  • There were actually five guitarists that played for The James Gang prior to Joe Walsh ever joining the group...Ron Silverman, Greg Grandillo, Dennis Chandler, Bill Jeric, and Glen Schwartz...Joe replaced Glen, and it was at this time they went into the studio for the recording of 'Yer Album'...

No offense, but I just had to laugh at some of these comments made about 1 year ago.

    Cheers!

  • @drprogensteinphp That's right, I recall Grandillo and Jeric but the others ... it's kinda fuzzy. Phil Gialombardo was in the original band as well. He actually recorded with Jim, Dale, and Bob Webb (guitar) on "Jesse Come Home" (the last studio album, 1976). Hey, I was still in high school till 1970. I did not get around enough to see bands but I knew how popular some were. I have all the albums (except "Best of") including the Zachariah soundtrack.

  • The James Gang was founded by Glenn Schwartz and Jimmy Fox. Schwartz left to join P.G.&E. ("Are You Ready?") Joe replaced Glen, but that was a breakout move for both. When Joe left, the only recordings of serious note are the 2 Bolin LPs ("Bang" and "Miami") There were at least 2 more band lineups that recorded after that.

  • joe original yep the one.. fox awesome .. bolin kept alive.. i just got miami and its great

  • What the hell are you talking about jbone? Joe Walsh founded the James Gang in the 60s. Do your homework next time.

  • You are incorrect. The James Gang was formed in Cleveland (east side) by Jim Foxx long before he met Joe Walsh at Kent State. Used to see them at local venues around Cleveland when I was in high school. Glen Schwartz played lead. Walsh replaced Schwartz.

    Doy YOUR homework.

  • @ratthump Point is, the BEST lineup was with Joe Walsh. He WAS the James Gang that we all know.

  • @yourtubesteak U R WRONG Jimmy Fox founded the James Gang. Do your homework!

  • does anyone know the name of this song??

  • That beautiful song is called Run, Run, Run. There's another great song on that same album called, Driftin' Girl. I saw this band at Wesley College in Dover DE, 1972.

  • I've never heard anything with Dom;he was an amazing talent and this is really good stuff.

  • nice song, nice clip. no offense to joe walsh, of whom i'm a fan, but james gang was started and led by drummer jimmy fox, who looks pretty happy here and understandably so!

  • Oh man I always thought this was a beautiful song. The Troiano James Gang had their moments. I no longer have them but I found both Troiano albums still sealed, OOP, of course. Very good stuff, what show was this?

Roy, very good choice for a vocalist. This is because I'm a Tommy fan, but the Tommy-Roy version, I don't understand why they did not become huge. Certainly one of the more talented bands around at the time. It's A Long Way Down To The Top (Kossoff, Backstreet Crawler band).

  • They should have just taken on a new name. It ain't the James Gang without Joe Walsh. It would be like Nirvana trying to carry on without Cobain.

  • it was kenner and troiano before joe walsh was ever involved.

  • Wrong..!

  • @69Lovett Kenner and Trojiano were in a band called Bush. Troiano was replaced by Tommy Bolin in the James Gang, at the recommendation of Joe Walsh, who had just hired Tommy Stephenson, keyboard player for Tommy Bolin's band Energy.

  • @JohnnyVisionquest

Actually, you've got that backwards. It was Tommy who replaced Domenic Troiano. Both Kenner and Troiano joined The James Gang after the departure of Joe Walsh. Kenner stuck around during the Bolin era.

  • @drprogensteinphp I didn't get it backwards. I said nothing about Tommy. I said Troiano replaced Joe Walsh. That is a fact. Tommy came after Domenic.

  • @777butch777

I'm well aware of the order...who played when etc. No need for a history lesson. I own pretty much everything ever recorded by The James Gang, Bush, Troiano, Mandala, Zephyr, Pacific Gas & Electric, and all other related bands. Glancing over the comments, I beleive my initial/reply comment was supposed to be directed towards Jbone306 or JohnnyVisionquest. I may have replied to your comment by mistake. Not sure as I haven't visited this thread in a loong time...over a year.

  • If this didn't have The James Gang on the label, it could be an Eagles B-side, and no one would complain. Not a bad tune, considered in a vacuum.

  • After watching some of these later "James Gang" clips, it's obvious that the only version that mattered was the lineup with Joe Walsh.

  • I guess it must be hard when you admire a band and then there are lineup changes, but hats off to Domenic Troiano and Roy Kenner who put their own spin on the music and didn't try to copy Joe Walsh. Great SONG!
