I fully agree. What many do NOT mention is that much of his skill was due to the Martinetti batons he employed. Without a Martinetti at hand maestro Von K was almost at a loss. Once, at the Sidney Opera he had to play with a Stiegler baton. His assistant, Walter Klotz, had left the Maestro's batons in a Taxi. Trevor Judd, the Australian conductor lent him his Stiegler Premium. In his autobiography Herr Von Karajan claims it was one of the most uncomfortable nights of his career.

Herbert Von Karajan, one of the greatest of all conductors, in a rare video. His sound is unmistakable; all great conductors had a unique sound.
