I am seliing a compaq nc6400 with windows 7 ultimate - 80gb hard drive - microsoft 2007 office - 1gb ram - this is a very good traveling computer becuase of its frame and light wieght also, i recommend this computer for any traveler or some one entering a high school / college thats need a strong reliable computer -
lol srry. what i meat to say was tht i want my laptop to start up like yours does. mine takes me to the welcome screen when i turn it on and i tried to switch it like you said but it didnt work. i have the same laptop and want it to startup like yours does and not go to the welcome screen. thank you
Start > Run > "control userpasswords2" (Yes there is a 2 in there, don't type the quotes)
Under users for this computer highlight the user you want to be the default and then uncheck the box "users must enter a name and password to use this computer". You'll need to enter the password to be used for autologon. If your username doesn't have a password you'll need to create one in the other control panel users and passwords area. :S
i have a problem. how do you change your settings so that when i turn my laptop in does not go to the welcome screen thing and make me click on my username and sign on and everything. i want it to log me on automaticly when i turn my laptop on. message me with the answer. thank you
Start > Settings > Control Panel > User Accounts > "Change the way users log on and off" > Uncheck Use Welcome Screen. The way you get to this setting might be slightly different depending on how your start menu and control panel are setup.
1-If I have my usb mouse attached and I start it up, the mouse pad dosnt work(to make it work i have to restart computer and take off the usb mouse)
2-Battery dosnt work properly it maximum goes for 10minutes then gives me low battery message. Even if I charge the laptop for full night and unplug the ac adaptor it only works for like 10 minutes... I seriously need some help with this laptop!
im using this laptop right now as i type. i have mine upgraided to 2 gb of ram and 160 gb hard drive. i also ran crysis. the graphics are great, little bit of lag when starting up but other wise great laptop.
Don't get too used to it, there's a hardware issue which will eventually kill it. Something to do with a poor connection under a power supply chip near the CPU :S
I'm pretty sure with some overclocking this thing would run some average games hey I heard from some friends they ran crysis on this thing everything low of course.
Yea, $300 is about £160. For that price expect 1.4-1.6GHz processor. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 30-40GB HDD and 256-512MB RAM. It will run Windows XP fine with 512MB of RAM but 256MB is a push for XP Pro, get another RAM stick.
Check the Wi-Fi and bluetooth works before you settle with it. On rare occasions, these laptops can develop a fault where it won't start up without pushing down on the top right of the keyboard, this is non repairable as it's something to do with connections under the CPU. Don't let that put you off! I have two others of these and they're sturdy and reliable. Linux is also supported, check google.

If you're using Windows XP, you can go into device manager (Right click on My Computer, Manage) then rescan for hardware after detaching your mouse.
You'll probably need to replace the battery. They only last 5 years or so.
