it is far far more dangerous to keep e your mother board without a CPU or plastic cover on to the socket, because the pins are actually on to the mbo socket for the Intel platforms and they are much more fragile then the CPU it self. And may get dusty as well.
@SirJamesDDJ Your build is very similar to what I'm building. I am building: Corsair 800D Obsidian, Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z Z68, Intel i7 2600K, EVGA GTX560 448 Core Classified, Corsair H80 CPU Cooler, Corsair AX750 PSU, Corsair Vengeance 16GB 1600Mhz RAM, Corsair Memory 120GB Force 3 Sata 600, OCZ 64GB Synapse SSD (for caching) and a 2TB WD Caviar Green
hey man, great vid this exactly the build I'm looking to make for myself. question, I have an Antec Nine Hundred case, do you think the extended atx design of the Asus Maximus?
I want to make something close to this before i become an adult ):
That would make me happy
btw is the asus geforce gtx 550 ti and intel core i7-2600k a decent build for gaming, im trying to make game reviews with atleast hd graphics. So i need decent stuff, because this computer kinda does not have a graphics card 0_o and i was thinking about making my own computer lol
The Corsair H70 cooler was a good choice over a ProlimaTech push/pull set-up, looks so much better and shows off the build to full effect, good job, and a very informative review. Well Done!
This bugs me, I plan on running 2 GTX 580 Classified Hydro cards and they need to be in the slots next to each other for the liquid cooling with the compression fittings. There must be a way around this to be able to run the 2 cards at a full x16,x16
Question? Will this mobo handle two different Raid at the same time while also allowing me to use one SSD as a boot drive? I hear reviews mentioning that if you turn on your ACHI in the bios that your raids will fail?
I have an first generation Intel Core i5 CPU (750 @ 2.67GHz). does that motherboard work with my processor? i hope so cause that motherboard would be perfect :O
@ulfmusskacken NOO!!!! I believe Your CPU is socket 1156, It is in no way compatible with 1155 you could risk damaging a motherboard or your own CPU. Pleas don't try it.

@danisasuperbeast It won't speed up your computer, but having 2 graphics cards in sli or crossfire will give you dramatic increase in gaming and in video rendering.
Why didn't you put the sound card in between the gtx 580's (Slot 3) so that 1 GPU would be in slot 1 and slot 4. Wouldn't this give the cards more air and still run at 16x?
Is it hard to install and take care of the corsair h70 water cooling? I never used watercooling before and i have a coolermaster v6gt as well but i dont know how well it can handle the i7 2600k at 4 ghz.
@Peace7Maker in the end, if you need a computer to run Crysis 2 DX11, Battlefield 3, Tribes Ascend, Starwars Old Republic and many more awesome game that are coming before the end of the year, now is the time to buy xD
@flawns do you know more exactly when is ivy bridge coming out? is it just 6 + cores CPUS or a whole line up of mainstreams like dual core and quad cores? I'm waiting for ivy to build my maschine :) and also kepler for nvidia!
@BattlefieldSF Well sorta kinda, I found a PDF file straight from Intel, in that PDF it sayed that it will come out in 2011 (q4) to 2012 (q2) ... they are playing it safe with Q2 in case if they find any errors or defects since as you may know this is the first time that intel is going mainstream with 3d trans-gates.
its funny how intel always makes smaller and cooler CPUs and yet GPUs are getting bigger, louder, and hotter lol
@BattlefieldSF SAME HERE! i was working on a build atm....and within doing research...lol I find out that Ivy bridge is soon to come out. Now im sitting with with a case and just a PSU grreeeaaaatt...
I also have plans to upgrade my i7 920 rig with this 2600k pairing it with Z68 asus maximus extreme-z mobo.. im a bit impatient, but maybe i should hold off for Ivy Bridge, which will be launch next year. they said its 37% faster using the tri-gate technology than sandy bridge
Déjà vu, this happened to my motherboard too, 2 burned pins, but I had lucky to just change the psu 24 pin conector to a new one, take off the melted plastic from the motherboard conector, and it started to work again. I think the GTX 480 on overclock can push so much juice that can burn your pins, well I had my SLI GTX 480 overcloked to 900mhz when it happened. When that happened I got really scared to lose my motherboard, because I did one RMA and took 5 months to get my motherboard back.
I dunno why but my pc/mobo always post at 2nd time like yours after i remove the power cable, and shut down the pc completely, or in your case the first boot, hope somone know some more about this.
I've got almost that exact same system heading out to me right now via NewEgg. Silverstone Fortress 2, Maximus IV, 2600k, Corsair Dominator DDR3 16GB kit w/fans, EVGA GTX580 3GB version in SLI, H70... Great minds think alike ;)
nice system. get brighter uv lights..blue..urggghhh why do so many people use blue? i have uv red in my system looks so much better.. juts my opinion.
@ordiantakeover Whut? I'm just telling you.. all of you fools thinks bigger the price means better the product. Intel is a joke and you know it. their un-reliable and they overheat like a pro.
man, when EVGA P67FTW becomes available - ASUS mobo will "go in the bin",
hopefully after upgrading to that mobo + adding Corsair H60 + add another 4Gb G.Skill will I be able to move couple of lines UP in the RIG Mods?.... zzzmaverickzzz
@samuel69zzz It shows the EVGAP67FTW has now arrived on the EVGA site for $229, but still has the notify me button. From what I have read on the specs, it doesn't have the features that this Maximus IV Extreme has. The Maximus IV is still the flagship board for P67.
I have a question and was hopeing you could help me out. I am in the middle of a build with the same case and MOBO you have in your vid. Can you help me with where I plug in the 1394? And should I be using AC"97 or HD? PLEASE HELP
This will soon be my same build !!! Except that Im gonna grab a 590 gtx, and I think ill now grab one of those status displays for the memory, really neat.
I am building something similar to yours, only I am using air cooling on the CPU, the
Noctua NH-D14 In the Haf X case, and I am also going to be using the exact same ram and ram cooler fan and also that corsair low pro air temp reader and I am wondering if it will be in the way of the memory, if its possbile to perhaps have the cpu fan blow upwards out of the case and have it fit that way, or honestly should I just go with the h70 setup?
Let me know How you like the H70... I'm about to upgrade to the 2600k. I got a H50 and I'm contemplating switching to the H70 although all the reviews only show a few degrees difference unless extreme overclocking is in play. But that is with the X58 cpus. I'm also getting the Maximus IV waiting for it to come in on monday (28th) so I can put my rig together. I'm rocking two 570's and Corsair Vengeance. I'm poor. Also, Idk how you can put the cards that close together. More heat ftl.
very nice build.i'm torn between the maximus iv extreme and the msi big bang marshal.hopefully asus rog will release a new 1155 mobo, maybe the rog immensity with lucid hydra tech onboard.
Just wanted you to know that you inspired me and I fell in love with your build. I was already planning on a 2600k and M4E build but was unsure of what case to get. This video sealed the deal for me. I have been out of the game for a while so i wanted to ask your opinion on my build M4E Mobo i7 2600k H70 128mb Crucial SSD 1tb Storage (both SATA3) 16gb Gskill 1600 ram ASUS Direct CU gtx580 1020w Enermax Revo PSU Xigmatech 140/120mm fans for case Scyth 110cfm fans for radiator push pull thanks

Hello...
Your SLi-Setup isn't the best solution with the PCIe Slot 2 and 4.
Because there are twice x16, right - but the nf200 chip is just connected with 8x.
So the best would be to use Slot 1 and 3 - even with just x8/x8 - it will be a better performance.

fredriknet95 9 months ago

Temps with the H70 should be similar, only a bit higher.

@ordiantakeover Whut? I'm just telling you.. all of you fools thinks bigger the price means better the product. Intel is a joke and you know it. their un-reliable and they overheat like a pro.
iNekoNaru 10 months ago
You have a problem with your mobo and you replace all the system ??? You can also buy a new x58 motherboard !
TheXtremeGamer90 10 months ago
Do you think i can overclock a i7 2600k to 4.5 ghz with a Asetek 570LX Liquid Cooling system and still have safe temperatures..??.
ISUBANY11 10 months ago
@ISUBANY11 The 2600K can overclock to almost 5Ghz even on mid-range air cooling (CM 212+). low-mid range water cooling can get it up to 5.5ghz+.
the short answer: yes
Legomax18 10 months ago
@Legomax18 mine is overclocked to 5.1ghz on water. videos coming soon.
rickychanny 10 months ago
@ISUBANY11 ive heard of water cooled systems with the 2600k running at 5.5ghz

man, when EVGA P67FTW becomes available - ASUS mobo will "go in the bin",
hopefully after upgrading to that mobo + adding Corsair H60 + add another 4Gb G.Skill will I be able to move couple of lines UP in the RIG Mods?.... zzzmaverickzzz
samuel69zzz 10 months ago
@samuel69zzz It shows the EVGAP67FTW has now arrived on the EVGA site for $229, but still has the notify me button. From what I have read on the specs, it doesn't have the features that this Maximus IV Extreme has. The Maximus IV is still the flagship board for P67.
DeRockProductions 10 months ago
nice rig, similar to mine, i'm constantly tracking your commence regarding P67FTW on EVGA forums...... zzzmaverickzzz
samuel69zzz 10 months ago
what is "flagship"?
wcchalo 10 months ago
@wcchalo it means that the maximus is best under the motherboards on the 1155 socket

There's not much difference between running SLi GTX 580s in 8x 8x mode and 16x 16x mode. /watch?v=NFMzRZqFh-w&feature=feedu

I have a question and was hopeing you could help me out. I am in the middle of a build with the same case and MOBO you have in your vid. Can you help me with where I plug in the 1394? And should I be using AC"97 or HD? PLEASE HELP
lvl8hacker 11 months ago
This will soon be my same build !!! Except that Im gonna grab a 590 gtx, and I think ill now grab one of those status displays for the memory, really neat.
TheSavageB 11 months ago
I am building something similar to yours, only I am using air cooling on the CPU, the
Noctua NH-D14 In the Haf X case, and I am also going to be using the exact same ram and ram cooler fan and also that corsair low pro air temp reader and I am wondering if it will be in the way of the memory, if its possbile to perhaps have the cpu fan blow upwards out of the case and have it fit that way, or honestly should I just go with the h70 setup?

What's better?
Asus Maximum IV Extreme OR
Asus Rampage III Black Edition?
GeneraLKaoZ 11 months ago
Let me know How you like the H70... I'm about to upgrade to the 2600k. I got a H50 and I'm contemplating switching to the H70 although all the reviews only show a few degrees difference unless extreme overclocking is in play. But that is with the X58 cpus. I'm also getting the Maximus IV waiting for it to come in on monday (28th) so I can put my rig together. I'm rocking two 570's and Corsair Vengeance. I'm poor. Also, Idk how you can put the cards that close together. More heat ftl.

TheTerriblePuddle 11 months ago
sweet Sweet rig dude! I went with amd (1100t, asus crosshair) but i am considering the 2600k and now after seeing your rig i think that the 2600k is the way to go, thanks dude!!
binovski5 11 months ago
@binovski5 the 2600k is not worth it at all. the i5-2500k is 100 bucks cheaper, and the only thing you loose is hyperthreading.
