WILL -- Channel 12 Urbana, Illinois: A member of the University of Illinois -- Champaign-Urbana Campus. Sesame Street and Wall $treet Week would be two programs coming to mind during the 1970's on public television. A 10!!
WKNO Channel 10, Memphis, TN....i used to watch all the kids shows..i.e. Sesame St, Electric Company, Zoom. Later on 3-2-1-Contact and The Great Space Coaster.
I havent seen this logo when i was a small child, and its not so frightful for me now. Though that stupid old electic computer sound can make every logo creepy
Remember when, even in the nation's largest market, all you had besides PBS (on Channel 13, of course) were channels 2 (WCBS), 4 (WNBC), 5 (WNYW), 7 (WABC), 9 (WOR), and 11 (WPIX). I man literally, 7 friggin' channels...and I watched more TV back then!
i remember WOR-TV,Channel 9 out of Secaucus, NJ! if you had cable TV in Memphis, Channel 9 was one of our stations. i used to watch the Knicks and the Nets and on Friday night i would watch NIGHT FLIGHT!
KCET LOS ANGELES! Ch. 28! ..I remember seeing this alot when I was a toddler in the early 80's, right before Sesame Street came on. I was never frightened by this and liked it. My dad told me That when this came on, especially when I heard "this... is... CBS!" I freaked out and got really excited every time. Being a kid was fun.
KVCR 24- San Bernardino/Riverside Cal. on channels 12 or 14 Indio/El Centro Cal. for those in the Palm Springs area and Imperial valley back in the 1970s/early 80s.
KPTS channel 8 Hutchisonn/Wichita this is in south central Kansas. Still ch. 8. And music wasn't scary it sounded to my toddler mind in late 70s early 80/s like the tv was hickupping and the P reminded me of a key. Like a key to knowledge or something. Never realized it was a head until my toddlers started watching PBS kids a few years bak
WSJK TV, Sneedville, TN high atop Short Mountain.. one of the smallest cities in Tennessee...but Short Mountain was the location for the broadcast towers.. LOL!
Someone I knew had two friends she nicknamed "PBS & Butt-Chin"--one had the profile of the "P" and the other a cleft chin. I wonder what she called me when I wasn't around...
I still just don't understand what's so frightening about the sound of a beautiful, soft, smooth, vintage synthesizer. This logo seems quite nice to me.
WETA Channel 26, Arlington, VA and since I live in Maryland as they used to say it when Maryland Public Television opened and closed their broadcast days in the past. "Channel 22 WMPT in Annapolis, Maryland, Channel 28 WCPB in Salisbury, Maryland, Channel 31 WWPB in Hagerstown, Maryland, Channel 36 WGPT in Oakland, Maryland, Channel 62 WFPT in Frederick, Maryland and Channel 67 WMPB in Baltimore, Maryland".
It's a shame that the music PBS and others use on TV doesn't sound like this anymore. It makes me feel a bit nostalgic, and I'm only twenty-two. I should barely remember this kind of thing.
WNET Channel 13 NYC (the flagship of the Propaganda, er I mean Public Broadcasting Servce), WLIW Channel 21 out of Garden City, LI - WNYE channel 25 NYC now owned by the city of NY, & NJN.
If we as citizens are obligated to pay a hefty fee, to a private company just to be given the privilege of accessing "public television" then by default there is no such thing as public television.

Why can't today's channel's ID didn't sound like this?
