I tried and my dad's pug jumped up so I held the treat up and put him in the sit position and he did it without me the rest of the time. If I hold a treat up to him he automaticaly plops down into a sitting position. Hope that helped :)

@brendenxayavongsa Mine does the same thing. I can't even get him to sit by forcing him. He's 8 weeks, is that too young? He just lunges for the treat and when it's moved above his head he jumps or stands up and stretches for it.

wow, just tried it on my 8 week old Staffy puppy. At first he didnt want to, then it took several attempts to stop his bum going back up again... but he's starting to get the hang of it. Sit he already knows =D

Trouble is, he started getting rough with me as he took the treats, he doesnt like me "teasing" him with the treat so ends up biting my fingers and scratching my hands to get the treat =/ .... should I still be giving him the treat for lying down, or not for hurting me??

I think that should help if not, try putting you and him in a small place, such as a bathroom (depending on the size) so he doesn't have alot of room to run around in or play. If he is still moving alot try again later he might not be in the mood. A lot of puppies just want to play alot so don't make him if he doesn't want to. -Coral

@inlove470 Training treats should be packed with flavor, soft, and small in size. Try liver-based treats. The liver flavor has a strong, appetizing aroma (for dogs, anyway). The soft texture and small size makes for easy chewing, so the pup can concentrate on the task at hand. Some trainers recommend using small bits of poached chicken or string cheese. Reserve "high reward" treats to training exercises, so there's extra motivation to listen and perform the desired behavior. Happy training!

@jelamatibag you could gently push his back(near the tail area) down and it will sit then give a treat but I like the way this video teaches it because when you push its back to much, it can cause some problems to the back when it gets older.

@lilmiszdolz hold the treat in your fist, puppy will still be able to smell it. While taking the treat to the floor push the puppies back downwards with one hand. Once you make him sit give it the treat. Do it a few times and he/she will eventually learn by association to sit for the treat. Remember to say the command sit when making him sit so he learns what it means.
