  • Hi Davie,

Nice fly again! I was thinkin that what is the best size of hook in that fly?

  • Hi kirrenkiusaaja,

I have tyed this pattern in many sizes depending on the species of caddis which are on the water, if I had to pick a size range they would be from 14s to 20s as it's a great style for these sizes...

    All the best Davie

  • Hi Davie,

Another great fly. Nice and simple and I am going to guess it gets lots of good takes. I think I will be using this one next spring.

    Many thanks!

  • Great thanks!!! Your videos make the learning process very simple. Thanks Again!!!

  • Davie,

I will be in touch as the time gets nearer. My fiance and I are probably going to bring our gear with us just so we are prepared in case we find a place we'd like to try. We are also probably going to travel to the Ayr one day anyway just to sight see as much as possible while we are there. Thanks for the help and information looking forward to your next video

  • hey davie...we have chatted from time to time on the computer..enjoy the videos..hope one day u will make to the somerset show in nj...is that blue shirt your shirt for tying? lol...stay well..

  • Hi termite122,

I'm glad that you are enjoying the videos..The main reason I wear the blue shirt is because it makes a great background for showing the flies being tyed, I have tried other colours but I find blue is the best...

    All the best Davie

  • Davie,

We are going to be flying into Edinburgh. We will be traveling and seeing the country between there and Glasgow. Any rivers that you think we should try a cast at would be appreciated. Also to rent fishing gear since we won't be doing a lot of fishing we aren't bringing our own. Thanks for your help I can't wait to see Scotland and Ireland this summer. Again thanks so much for the videos It's helped my tying improve greatly.. God bless..

  • Hi winks002,

There's plenty of rivers between Edinburgh and Glasgow but the problem would be finding someone that could hire you some fishing gear. If you could make it down to Ayr which is about 35 miles south west of Glasgow then I could take you down the river. If you can make it just get in touch with me nearer the time...

    All the best Davie

  • Another VERY VERY nice fly, Davie.

Man I wish I was as good as you!

Well I'm away to fish the March Brown Wet.

    Wish me luck!

  • Wow this looks like a really good fly! I would like to change the colors a bit and do a field test with it against the Elk hair caddis in a few streams in Wyoming, Idaho and Utah.

    Very nice tie again Davie!

  • nice rally nice

  • Davie,

Thanks for getting back to me so quick. I'll let you know in the next couple weeks where exactly we will be in Scotland and Ireland once we get it all finalized. Thanks again so much for the helping hand. Talk to you soon.

  • Davie,

Just wanted to say looks like a great caddis can't wait to tie it and try it here in the states when the weather gets warmer. I was wondering if you had any suggestions for rivers to fish in Scotland or Ireland? My fiance and I are going to be there in mid July for our honeymoon, and I've convinced her that we should fish a couple days!! She bit hard and can't wait to go. Any suggestions would truly be appreciated. Looking forward to more of your outstanding work. Its truly amazing!!

  • Hi winks002,

There's lots of good waters here in Scotland and in Ireland that you could have a cast, just let me know the area you are going to be staying at, when you decide I should be able to help you in some way..I know you and your future wife will have a wonderful time...

    All the best Davie

  • Davie,

Absolutely brilliant fly. Simple with great profile. Thanks

  • Hi Davie

That is a nice pattern.I maybe got a new favorite caddis fly.

    Bjorn

  • nice one davy. I reckon I could tie that one. The hardest thing I find, is getting the amount of deer hair right. Any tips?

  • thanks for another great pattern. simple and easy to tie.

  • Hi Again Davie You mention that you dye a lot of your own materials. Do you do deer hair? Some of the stuff in the videos Is bright and solid colored. You must bleach first. What bleach process do you use? What dye do you like for hair?

    Thanks Again

  • Hi TryTooTie,

The material I buy to dye is from Wapsi it's simply white belly deer hair, it's perfect for dyeing as it's pure white. But you will find that they dye some really good colours themselves as I buy them too.

    All the best Davie

  • Hi Davie

Thats a much simpler way to tie a bullet head than the one in FF&FT last month, thanks a million Davie for your time and effort.

    Pat

  • That looks like a killer pattern!! I cannot wait to tie some up. I wonder if you invert the hook if they would skate in the surface film?

    Jon

  • Hi Jon,

I would say that would be fine...

    All the best Davie

  • thanks Davie.

    Mike

  • Hi Dave,

another great little fly and simple, the way I like them :)

did you use a wet or dry hook ?

    Mike

  • Hi Mike,

The hook I used was a Partridge SUD size 18, really light and strong ideal for small flies..

    All the best Davie
