  • I am planning on moving there when I graduate college next year :)

  • Thank god you got this right, I was worried.

  • Oh my god its a miracle!

  • When people start equating someone's intelligence with how they pronounce state names, we have problems.

  • That's where I want to move

  • Oregon... Or a gun... Oregon

  • otacon

  • oh-ree-gahn

    midwestern accents FTW

  • @LiveXAndXLearnX3 OREGONIANS, KILL!!

  • This guy later got dysentry, on the trail.

  • yes, one of the best states ever :D

  • i hate the espn analysts who always pronounce Oregon and nevada completely wrong.

    Or-i-gone and Ne-vaw-da

    THATS WRONG

  • OREGAN

  • I can hear organ no uh.

  • OR -A -GUN ? ORIGIN?

  • I say it like or-eh-gawn

    as in the oregon trail

  • @Tr0p1ca10as1s and, of course, you pronounce it wrong.

  • i say or-eee-gin

  • I Live In Washington And Always Visit My Family In Oregon! >.<

  • Doesn't Oregon evolve into Oregon2?

  • @progrockcoffee What about Oregon-Z

  • It's actually pronounced "Idaho"

  • I love livin' in Ory-gunn

  • or a gun

  • Oh yeah lebanon oregon here

  • Wrong.

  • @planetjanet Nope.

  • Liver. Kidney. Pancreas.

  • I am from and currently living in Oregon. THIS is how you pronounce it! Anybody says different, is wrong.

  • But that's wrong you faggot.

    It's Oh-RE-Gi-NEH.

    No, he's actually correct.

  • Or a gun.

  • So the last syllable is supposed to sound like "gun". Good, to know. I always wondered how to pronounce this word correctly because people tend to say it differently in the media.

  • @Frackle - I guess you read my comment wrong. I don't pronounce Illinois or any other state wrong - even Missouri/Mizzurah :-) It is not hard to learn to pronounce them all correctly. I am not willing to give easterners who mispronounce westerns states a pass just because some in the eastern news media continue to also show their ignorance by mispronouncing Oregon, Nevada, and Colorado.

  • This pronunciation is fine, based on what I heard growing up, but OR-y-gn is more often used. The second syllable comes right after the first, so the O sound is shaped by your lips opening and your tongue moving backward in your mouth. Both pronunciations are common. Anything but these two is likely to mark you as an outsider (assuming you care about that).

  • oooh a gun!

  • Thank god people can learn to pronounce it properly. Now if they can just learn to pronounce the willamette river properly I can die happy.

  • OHHH RAY GUN!!

  • It's supposed to be "Oar-gun" not "Oar-uh-gone", people pronounce it with too many syllables.

  • @egcfiftyninjas I'm native to oregon and I agree, at least in my area people pronounce it with the e deemphasized.

  • Or ih gin

  • u want a knife oregon?

  • Idiot got it wrong -- it's Or-y-gun

  • @emslifee - good for you - did you correct your friends and collegues when they mispronounce western states? If you don't, who will?

  • Yes! And not "Or-EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-gawn."

    =D

  • I live in LA, originally from Oregon, and my next door neighbour (originally from New Jersey) says "oray-gawn", pisses me the hell off.

  • orygun, organ.

  • People always pronounce that like "Oray-gawn."

Even the people who live in oregon with me say it like that all the time.

  • Damn, I thought it was pronounced Ah-Ree-Gone.

  • Oar-Gone.

  • Organ

  • Organ, or-eh-gun, Organ.

  • Orygun

  • you said it two different ways

  • or again

  • Thanks for posting this! I'm so sick of hearing people call my state "Ory-gun" or "Or-uh-gone"

  • Aragorn

  • thank you the wife is from michigan

  • Thank you for finally clearing this up among the states. As an Oregonian running around online, I find it unbearable to hear someone say Or-uh-gone

  • So many easterners are so careless and uneducated about the pronunciation of western states like Oregon and Nevada, Yet, they would consider someone who pronounces Illinois as illi-noise to be a real hick. Well, look in the mirror, easterners, you are just as uninformed and uneducated if you can't pronounce states west of the Mississippi.

  • @Nevada702 Agreed, and I do say illi noise :)

  • Comment removed

  • @Nevada702 Excuse me. I am an easterner, and I pronounce all the states correctly. I am pretty sure everyone I know does! So stop getting smart with us, I know all 50 states and how to pronounce them correctly. Thank you very much.

  • @Nevada702 Aww, did your wittle ego get hurt because a few people can't pronounce your state? Oh, boo-hoo.

  • @mrvideogamevideos Nope, not a matter of ego. It is a matter of ignorance or lack of education.

  • @Nevada702 I grew up in Washington state and you're a pretty big dumbass if you pronounce Illinois wrong

  • @Nevada702 whoa just saw that you wrote that comment a year ago. Apologies, we've both grown since then...

  • @Nevada702 wat

  • @Nevada702 calm down brah

  • @Nevada702 neh vay day

  • Someone who actually can pronounce my state!

  • @Brian2298 ? who cant say oregon ?

  • I got so annoyed when I lived in Massachusetts. Everyone pronounced it "OR-UH-GONE"

  • @Mrvort Oregon="Mass-uh-CHEW-sets"? LOL jk
