  • hey bria i have a question about the color splash juniors how mani dmx channel does it occupy

  • are the color splashes bright?

  • nice show and set up bro.

  • so much talking so little showing...

  • Great videos briansredd. I'm really into lighting and DMX. I have a very large lighting rig that I'm really proud of. I have pix if you are interested in seeing it. Just private message me and i'll send you a link to my site. If you every have any questions i'd love to try and help you out!!!

  • Hi Brian,

I have been learning a lot from your videos. Gota appreciate all the work your putting out there for some of us who just love these as for hobbies. I was wondering what light controller have you used there as I could like to do a similar set up in my basement.

  • is the par can @ 1:10 a par 16?

  • yea well you get coller scrolers for youre standerd par 56 64 and blinders to but it wont beat LED par cans

  • thank you for this so much helpful Video!!!!

  • Brian - great vid! question for you - how can these be used to wash the walls? can we sit them on the ground and just point up at the wall?? I noticed some of the other chauvet wash lights have two brackets so you can make a stand for it... ??

  • Do you know of the Showtec LED parcan 56 DMX have a Master/slave???

  • xboxmodsftw

, do not believe those idiot spammers, no need to be worried, ITS MADE UP, they just do it for attention,

    don't let them bully you!

  • what is the name of the dmx controller ?

  • he didnt use one, the only controller he used was an elation co-pilot 2. and thats not a dmx controller just an average light controller

  • When working with any type of lights, a set of heavy duty gloves is a must have unless you want to burn your hands...

  • unless you are useing an LED

  • and dont want to look like a knob

  • unless they are LED. That also so applies when using folow spot as i painfully found out yesterday

  • Are these sound active?

  • No, not these in stand-alone. They are only sound active with a sound active DMX controller. There are small par cans available that do have built-in mics and are sound active.

  • I just bought 2 splash jrs literally like 30 minutes ago I have them power linked together

but how do i sync them together? I bought these cause i have the vue3 and a vertigo so i wanted something else usually vue3 is on cieling.can you give me some dipswitch settings

  • dude your color blind that purple

  • I know its pretty advanced technology for normal users but i was wondering if you could make a video on using a HOG 500 or 1000, i have used them before but only for minimal usage. Thanks

  • Hey Brian:-D

I LOVE your movies!! Can you plock the LED parcan in a dimmer like a normal parcan???

(Sorry the bad english, im' from Denmark...)

  • This isn't a good idea. You should be able to CHASE LED par cans with a traditional light computer, but I don't think Dimming with a traditional analog dimmer pack is recomended. They are going to want constant power, so you would want to use a DMX controller for dimming

  • It is not only recommended, it HAS TO BE plugged in directly to a standard power plug!!

Otherwise you could destroy the whole device and its integrated electronics.

  • where do get your supplies?

  • nice shirt, btw

  • Hi Brian,

    I agree with mburek.

Could you post another video distinguishing the difference between a controller and a dimmer chaser,as mentioned by mburek.

I think alot of people may have some old gear at home or at the club they work at, and may end blowing up their lights by getting the 2 units mixed up, and using the wrong one for their application. Its something that could be easily done if your not carefull.

  • Also Brian, when using LED lighting, it was my understanding that you shouldn't change dip switches without disconnecting the power first. This might just be an anal thing to do to prolong the life of your fixture.

Also, plugging LED lights into a dimmer pack meant for tradition par cans is a huge DON'T. LEDs do not dim in the traditional way by reducing the current sent to the fixture. LEDs dim by a completely different method. Puttin LEDs on a traditional dimmer circuit could blow them.

  • We didn't dim anything in this video. We just chased the lights with the Elation Co Pilot II.

  • My fault, I thought I heard "dimmer pack" in the video instead of "power pack".

My point is that incandescent par cans dimming is much different than LED dimming, and if someone wishes to dim LED lights a DMX controller is the way to go rather than using LED par cans with a controller meant for traditional par cans.

  • Yup, you are absolutely right. The reason I'm doing these videos is because I think a lot of people find DMX confusing and quite franly, I don't feel a DMX controller is always nessessary for most mobile DJ purposes. The only thing I really use a DMX controller for is to do fades and color mixes with par cans ( so I can use the same cans for strobes, fast songs, and slow jam color washes)

  • .. However, I feel LED intellegent lighting is a great thing, even without a DMX controller.

  • You have a very good point - what's also nice is that getting DMX LEDs means that if you ever choose to have more control, you can. If you don't go with DMX lighting, it's a huge leap if ever you choose you want more control.

  • Bri - I'm looking at using led pars for uplighting. Typically a 90 watt par 38 bulb is used. Would the Jr. be worth it, or not bright enough? I really like the compact size of them!

  • Yeah they should work just fine for you. They are really quite bright for a little light

  • If you go to Centerstage lighting online, they have packages of "Genaric" 4 jr light packages for $189. These lights, however ARE Chauvet and even come in the Chauvet box. They also have an 8 light package

  • Brian, to go along with your Centerstage lighting comment, if you buy the generic CoolCan 64 or CoolCan64 Pro from them you'll get a really cool Par 64 LED can which is actually an American DJ Par 64 LED can at a fraction of the price! You'll save somewhere around $75 on the regular ADJ Par 64 LED and $85 on the Pro version. Centerstage lighting also has great deals on the Chauvet color strips.

  • great vid but that blue was purple

  • Interesting tutorials about lights... good reference information if I someday need to work with lights or possibly make own event with lights in it... keep them coming bri, nice video.

  • what an ancient par can, i am glad led lights came around!

  • Old style PAR cans just seem so ridiculous these days!

  • ~ but there IS something kinda magical about them :) ...or am I just looking through blue tinted ..hang on, change gel !... rose tinted glasses :p

    Great video Bri

  • hmm yeah it's magical how they consume valuable power I could have used for my PA. HA!

  • Must be a true audio guy...My first thoughts with LEDs: "I could have 20 of these on one circuit!"

  • At 2 watts each, you could have a lot more than 20 on a circut

  • Very good info Brian, thank you very much!

  • on the old par cans does the gel paper melt if yo have them on for too long. thanks awesome video

  • They warp and fade over time, but gels are actually pretty tough

  • ok, I have a question for you Bri. I am doing an event in a few weeks and the people throwing it are supplying two laser machines (I know that have the lasers but no DMX controler). If the lasers do have DMX ability, is it possible to daisy-chain them together so that they'll be in sync doing sound to light without a DMX controler?

I think that makes sence, if not i can try to clarify.

  • Well, it depends. Are they DMX lasers and do they have a built-in mic for a sound-to-light effect? If so, then yes you can. You'd just set them up as master/slave with a DMX cable linking them together. Every light has different settings and without knowing exacally what lasers these are, I can't talk you thru it.

  • ok, thanks. I know that they are have sound-to-light, but i'm not sure about DMX. I am going to get in touch with the person who has the lasers and find out exactly what ones they are. Thanks for you help!

  • We'll be getting into master/slave settings in the next video or two

  • If I were you, I'd ask what lasers they were and check the manufacturers website for an online owner's manual to get the propper dip switch settings.

  • I just sent the owner of the lasers an email asking the make and model of the lasers. We'll see if I can figure it out from what he tells me, if not I'll probably be asking you about it. :P

    Thanks again

  • Great video,

Im lookin' into getting some lights now that i have my DJ system doen to a science. An update for you, i ended up going with the Crown XLS602 like you recommended for me (you helped me with my sound system dilema a while back), and just recently i got 2 CDJ200's and a Denon mixer. So now lighting is my next order of business...

    Lookin' forward to video 2...

    -Mike-
