  • I hate the winter but like it for only one reason dst ends get that extra hour of sleep and i feel amazing kinda makes me want to move to Arizona

  • DUDE DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME IS RETARDED!

THEY DON'T EXTEND 3 HOURS ON EVERY CLOCK IN THE NATION SO J124LIFE CAN GET 3 EXTENDED HOURS OF SLEEP SO WHY EXTEND 1 HOURS SO FARMERS GETS MORE SUN TANS?!

IF I WANT 3 MORE HOURS OF SLEEP I SLEEP 3 HOURS EARLIER, IF FARMERS WANTS 1 EXTRA HOURS OF SUN WAKE THE FUCK UP EARLIER! DON'T CHANGE THE ENTIRE NATION'S TIME SO SOME REDNECK CAN GROW EXTRA CORN IN HIS BACKYARD!!!

  • @MiracleMileV8: In the USA, since 2007, DST begins in the Winter. Specifically, on the second Sunday in March - never later than March 14. The Vernal Equinox is usually on March 20 and never earlier than March 18.

In parts of Canada and Alaska, daylight does not end on a daily basis at all in late Spring and early Summer.

  • I agree 100% leave the damn time the same all year long. Daylight savings is such bullshit ! Changing the clock does not give you more or less hours the sun will be up.

  • Ok. Where were the dancing hotdogs?

  • is there anything out there or anyone in the goverment that can see into this and listen to the people for once and stop this "time change"? if there is, let me know, we can try a referendum or something.let me know.

  • i like changing the clock twice a year, its one of those little things that make life interesting. I prefer a more interesting world to a more perfect world :)

  • I don't really care if daylight saving time is used all year or if it's done away with, I just want the annual time-changing to stop. It was a stupid idea then and it's a stupid idea now. Daylight saving time doesn't change the amount of daylight we have, it simply shifts the hours that we operate at. Unfortunately, daylight saving time isn't really an issue that people get passionate about, so it would be really hard to drum up support in Congress to have it discontinued.

  • Stop the time change madness! Ridiculous vestigal modern day waste of effort, we might as well maintain hitching posts in front of every bar. Keep only the summertime time.

  • Get yourself a farm and you won't have to worry about what time it is.

  • what ever happened to quality of life.

    end daylight savings time!!!

  • daylight saving should be all year because I hate standard time it gets dark too early during standard time. During Daylight saving time we do everything 1 hour earlier than during standard time. So Daylight Saving Time should be year round

  • DST does not really change when the sun rises and sets - only how clocks are set.

All it is, is an edict that we wake up (and do everything else) an hour earlier.

Going to sleep at sunset is not natural for Homo Sapiens, so we basically lose an hour of sleep (which has many side effects)

And it's getting worse, not only because DST now begins in Winter (US), but time zones have also been shifted westward

  • @1L6E6VHF: Actually, the only years that DST has actually begun in winter would be '74 and '75; and that was during the Energy Crisis. I should also mention that daylight, at the height of the solar summer, wouldn't end until 9 pm in many of the northernmost parts of the country, and in virtually all of Canada{or around 8 pm without DST}.

  • @1L6E6VHF Dude, the sunrise and sunset is 1 hour later then usually during daylight savings time!

  • It is un natural.. period

  • It saves daylight and cooling. Sucks if you need heating in the morning. :P

  • It originated because of WWI in order to conserve energy and help the war effort. Since writing your congressmen, urging him to repeal the law is virtually useless, it will be one of the many bullshit laws which will remain in effect for the entirety of our nation... or at least until the next American Revolution.

  • DST is the dumbest thing ever. I don't care who invented it. I wish someone would come forward and stop the madness.

  • DST does not save any energy and does cost money and lives. Choose Daylight or Standard as the new "standard" and keep the government busy-bodies out of my bedroom...where my alarm clock resides

  • who do we go through to stop the damn daylight saving's time shi-.

  • Why do we still use this stupid concept? It fucks up my sleep schedule for weeks and not to mention that thats one hour earlier that I had to be to work by. You can't change time so why do we pretend to?

  • Doesn't really matter, i'm gonna wake up when I feel like it, and go to sleep when I feel like it.

  • I think that the Shift of time 1 hour Forward is great. It may be dark when you leave for work but it is light out when you get home. As for the winter, when you get up it is light outside when you leave for work but when you get home from work it is dark. So I think that we should be on Daylight saving Time All Year!

  • Adding an hour to clocks in order to gain daylight is like adding a foot to your height in order to be taller.

  • I LOVE this music!

  • if DST increases heart attack incidence, increases car accidents, and costs us more in energy consumed, why do we do it?

  • @josephdupont benjamin franklin came up wit it to save energy (electricity etc)

  • @josephdupont where did you get that from daylight savings increasing DST? that's pathetic... it's the same as saying since it started criminality rates increased. One thing has nothing to do with the other example is the heart attacks. So Daylight savings increase HEART ATTACK? only a moron would think like that. Heart attacks increased because people just eat junk food everyday... both periods are coincidental.

  • @josephdupont it just does that at the change times. Overall, all of those things decrease for the 8 months it is in use beyond where it would be if it was not used at all. It does use more energy in the morning, but since more people are awake for the extra hour of daylight in the evening than the extra hour of darkness in the morning, the extra hour of evening daylight saves more energy than the extra hour of morning darkness costs us.

  • @josephdupont Why do we do a lot of things that are stupid and bad for us?

  • @josephdupont: I don't think the latter 2 are quite accurate, and frankly the former is quite ridiculous. But then again, I wouldn't miss DST too much.

  • My body runs on standard time. Keep the clocks at standard time and those who want to go to work an hour early, get up early. Stop punishing everyone with this dumb stupid time game.

  • I want it to end forever.

  • dst should be abolished entirely...yes it may be benefical to nyc, boston, philadelphia, and washington dc, but in places like traverse city, grand rapids, and sault st marie dst makes it dark at 8am for an additional month...proof that zickcer is absolutely right

  • How does that make any sense? If the daylight savings time is 8am, that means that if you didn't have daylight savings, the time would be 9am. So, without DST, however dark it is at 8am, it would be that dark at 9am, even later, no? I don't see how DST make it darker longer in the morning...

  • actually it's the opposite...daylight savings time is the act of moving the clocks forward an hour...which is detrimental to a place like sault st marie where until yesterday morning the sun wasn't rising until well after 8am...say we keep the clocks back even after the second week in march even the former push ahead date at the end of april...instead of being forced back into near 8am sunrises...the sunrise time would continue creeping earlier on its natural course...

  • oohhh, that makes sense. for some reason I thought we just changed into daylight time, but that's what time we were in before the clocks just changed.

I agree with you then - for some reason I thought one of the main reasons they had the daylight savings was so that kids wouldn't have to walk to school in the dark in the morning, but it sounds like it actually causes that.

  • no problem, see how confusng the clock changes can be...with the silly schedule they have now the sunrise times are later in mid-late march and in late october than they are on the winter solstice (december 21)

  • Geeez, just goes to show how stupid the anti-DLS lobby really is. I am referring both the video and the dumb-arse comments littered here.

  • DST does nothing but WASTE the time you spend resetting clocks all around your house. I should know how it works. But most people don't realze is that by DST, BOTH sunRISE and sunset are delayed one hour. It's the late sunrises caused by more DST that most idiot politicians don't consider when planning to make it year-round by 2012.

Want more daylight? Get up early every morning, like I've done all my life, ya wusses.

  • Luckily I live in a province in Canada that doesn't do DST. it's awesome, except if you have cable or satelite TV, the schedule gets fucked up twice a year LOL

  • I am in daylight savings time right now. It is an absolute piss stain! Seven over the clock post meridiem reminds me of dinner time!

  • I'm looking to start an online blog petition to abolish DST entirely. Would people here be willing to sign it?

  • I would.

  • sign me up

  • NO WAY!!

  • hell yeah

  • I ran across an old newspaper the other day...OK...I'm a drive in geek and was looking up old ads at the library micro film collection, and came accross some pre-daylight-savings ads for drive in theaters in my area. This was in December and they all had electric in car heaters (YOU'LL BE SNUG AS A BUG IN A RUG!). What was cool was in the winter months WITHOUT the time change, they were able to go on screen about 6pm and every drive in showed TRIPPLE FEATURES!

  • 5 stars!

DST is absolutely senseless bullshit and even causes insomnia! Stop this thing around the world!

  • Looks like that idea didn't work. Now for over a year we turn back the clocks weeks earlier than the waiting for the following month to change the clocks!

  • if it wasn't for daylight saving I wouldn't have no savings at all

  • This isn't the 1800s: everyone everywhere has heat and light. DST makes as much sense as cutting six inches from the bottom oft he blanket and sewing to the top of the blanket because your shoulders are cold. DST costs the USA hundreds of billions of dollars every year, and increases traffic accidents by 7%.

It is an absurd ritual, and it should be abolished.

  • YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! It should be abolished forever! It's useless and it fucks the bodymind. Relentelessly, year after year, we have to endure this crap for 7 months long. You people in the USA please ask Obama to discard DST for good. If you do, the rest of the world will follow. (You're wrong though... In the 1800s (the good old days!) they were on LMT, solar time. This DST crap was enforced during WWI in 1916, courtesy of a Brit asshole named William Willet, who advocated it tirelessly.)

  • "saving" doesn't have an "s" on the end.

  • If you live on the western edge of any of the time zones, DST stinks!!! It forces people in those areas to get up in the dark, drive to school in the dark, and turn their lights on anyway. I HATE IT!!

  • I've seen the light, but unfortunatly there's not much of it about, thanks to flaming GMT. GMT not DST, or BST! lol

  • I take day light savings time for granted.

Switching from GMT to BST just lets me know it'll be summer soon.

  • ban it please i hate it to a pashon its shit why have it

  • I live in Saskatchewan (a province in western Canada), and we have standard time. No DST for us!

And we're getting along perfectly. DST needs to come to an end.

  • Without DST, sunrise in the northern U.S. would come before 4am in late spring/early summer. Most people's jobs don't start that early.

  • NO it wouldn't. Only for people in the eastern side of the time zone. I am going to school in the pitch DARK at 7:45 when DST is in effect.

  • I hate daylight saving! Its totally pointless today I think. I would rather have some light coming home in the evenings - I think thats healthy!

I worked at a companey during the winter were I went in at 1700 (after having the light of the day before work) and came home at 00:00, and it felt a lot more natural than going to work as the sun rises, then coming home in the dark at 17:00 - not nice!

  • Yo! geoffart!

Look at what you wrote, you are talking about standard time, not DST, by you're desription you are in favor of DST, correctly. Daylight Savings is the best, because it's more in line with a work day, with more light available at the end of the day. Standard Time makes for earlier dark time. Standard time makes for earlier light time too. I 'hate' Standard Time, because it doesn't fit human schedule as well as Daylight Saving Time(DST).

  • DST kicks in, in the winter, when clocks go back. when clocks go back, it means, that when it should be six o'clock under summertime, it is in fact five O'clock under DST, hence it gets dark sooner than if summertime resime had been kept through winter. the idea of DST is so kids go to school in the light. hence light is borrowed. do you have same in US, maybe system is different? We hve brit summer time and daylight saving time.

  • Ok, we use different terminology here in the U.S., this past weekend we switched to Standard Time. Daylight Savings Time in the US begins in March and ends on the first Sunday of November.

  • I tell a lie! Amazingly, since being a kid, i thought DST was winter (must have heard it somewhere), but a quick check online, on uk sites, would seem to mean i stand corrected! The confusion comes from fact that summer time is commonly known as BST here, and DST is hardly ever used!

  • How right they were... The USA (and some of the rest of the sheepy world) go on and on with this stupid and harmful craziness of DST. STOP THIS NONSENSE NOW!

  • I was at a drive-in last night, darn thing didn't start till 9 PM thanks to DST!!!

  • Has anyone mentioned that this ad is self-serving? Drive-in theaters want the show to start earlier. In Seattle in June it doesn't get dark until 10pm

  • Does anyone out there know the name of the song played on the background of this clip?

  • We don't need DST if people could just be bothered to get up one hour earlier to do everything. Work would start at 8am and end at 4pm, school should start at 7:45 and finish at 2 or half past 2 LEAVING THE REST OF THE DAY FOR YOU TO RELAX. Changing the clocks can be interesting once in a while but it is incredibly confusing for most people. Sunrise is a bit late and sunset is too late. Enjoy the dark sacred night in the evening. The sun reaches it's height at 1pm when it should be at 12noon.

  • My goodness! I get up early enough. Why torture us. Again and again and again. More people getting sick. More car accidents. I detest this DST! We are one of how many provinces that still have DST? What's up? How do we make it stop? Really, how do we make it stop? Ludicrus!

  • There's something called "civil disobedience". Used to make wonders in the past. For instance, it made India free. Why not try that?

  • Daylight Savings Time is once again upon us, and this year its starting earlier and ending later. I love extra sunlight in the evening hours and a nice early sunrise. Don't let them NOT turn back the clock!

  • And if we didn't have daylight saving time, it would get light at like 4am!!! I don't know about you people, but I'm sound asleep at that time. I would much more enjoy evening light than light in the middle of the night!

  • I LOVE Daylight Saving time! I HATE in the winter when it gets dark at 4:30pm. I LOVE when it stays light until 8pm in the summer. I think we should have Daylight Saving YEAR ROUND!

  • They got it backwards...should be fall ahead and spring back! Better yet...not at all! Are we the only province that still has DST?

  • Here in Saskatchewan, Canada, we don't take part in DST. We never have to re-set our clocks

  • I hate the dark mornings in the spring in DST. Getting up in the dark is a depressing way to start the day. Since I moved to Arizona (where there isn't DST) I haven't missed it one bit!!

  • And of course, it puts drive-in theaters out of business.

  • Having lived in Indiana all of my life, I've had an opportunity to see both sides. Now that I've tried it, I'm not as passionately against it. In particular, the first morning after the "fall back" is wonderful.

However, the first two weeks after the "fall back," the evenings are terribly depressing, because sundown is so early.

Plus, it's just really stupid to trick ourselves into using daylight more efficiently, especially since it's probably not that much more efficient anyway.

  • I live in Oklahoma. I love the outdoors and when the time is set back in oct by the time I get off work it is getting dark. No time to get anything done around the house. I hate it. It should be set back to DST and left alone.

  • Daylight savings is a good way to keep everyone and everything under control. Something America is real good for.

First Hawaii and Alaska, next Cuba and Iraq then the world.

  • I haven't heard one good argument against daylight savings. Name one valid point?? Its great lets keep it.

  • I'm in California and PDT is great... PST sucks. When we "fall back" in November, it's light at 6am and dark at 5pm. If anything, we should jump ahead another hour so there's at least an hour of daylight spending all day at work. Time changes suck though... I'd rather just stay on PDT full time.

  • How about this against daylights savings time, In the winter daylight is less then summer when there is more daylights so why would you extend daylight when there already is more daylight and lessen daylight when there is less in the winter? I live in Indiana and it is still daylight at 9pm at 98 degrees, a great way to cool down huh? In the winter it gets dark at 5pm. They have it backwards, they should have DST in the winter and standard in the summer.

  • why interfear with the time whats the big deal in the summer time extra 1 hr wippy do the earth tilts in the summer so we get extra day light enyway bloody shops shut early and its a pain in the ass in the morning to get up HATE IT LET BAN IT LETS GET TOGETHER FAKE LIGHT SAVINGS IT TREATS OUR LIFE LIKE HELL ,TREATS LIFE LIKE FAST FAWARD ALL THE TIME WHO CARES ABOUT MY SPELLING BLAME IT ON DAY LIGHT SAVINGS HAY

  • DON'T LET THEM TURN BACK THE CLOCK! WHY WON'T THE MADNESS END? OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! WHY WON'T PEOPLE UNDERSTAND IT WILL KILL US! WE NEED THE SUN FOR TRANSPORTATION, APPARENTLY.

    But seriously :P

  • I agree that the benefits in energy savings is at best marginal, but with regard to consumerism, it makes it possible for people to engage in more outdoor activities during the long days of summer. This is why companies like sporting goods stores, 7-Eleven and Kingsford Charcoal lobby this pretty hard.

Setting the clock back in Fall also prevents the kids from having to get up and go to school while it is still pitch-black outside on snowy mornings.

  • You are absolutley right, the real reason for DST is for those who enjoy golfing, fishing, tennis & other outdoor activities in the spring in summer. So for people like me who live in central Indiana we have to put up with 100 degree heat and daylight at 9pm and can't get a nice cool evening. It has absolutely nothing to do with energy savings! in fact it probaly costs more energy as these people use their vehicles and pools etc late into the spring in summer eveings.

  • I concur. We here in Saskatchewan are the only ones I know of who officially agree that this whole Daylight Savings Time is wonky. We opted out it, and I encourage you to do the same. Write your newspaper editor!

(Also, I'm surprised this ad didn't denounce DST as a Commie plot, which of course it is, since socialist Saskatchewan was clearly forewarned not to take part.)

(Note: above may contain more than usual daily intake of irony.)

  • daylight savings must be stopped! it raped my mom and killed my dog

  • Gosh! I wish I knew what the name of the big band song was in this video! Anyone out there know it?

  • (cont.) Legal Standard Time should be as close as possible to LMT (Local Mean Time) only, without this DST shit thing. If the Gov is not reasonable then individual people should be and, of their own, should boycott DST. From March to end October, instead of working 9 to 5, work 10 to 6 if DST is on. STOP THIS WORLDWIDE NONSENSE NOW!

  • LET'S ABOLISH DAYLIGHT SAVING (SUMMER) TIME! It's senseless, useless, unnatural, perverse, and bad for your health. It causes insomnia, prolongued stress, a sense of alieness and permanent jet-lag. It leads to drug abuse and alcoholism. One should live according to Solar time, not to the Gov's stupid whims. It doesn't save energy in Spring/Summer because you'll have to work and drive at the hottest hours with the air-conditioned on. Pollution increases so as ozone levels. (cont.)
