I have one as my first bike, what exactly do you mean by breaking it in properly? do mean not exceeding 4000 RPMs for the first 500 miles and 6000 on the next 500? and what happens if you don't cuz I tried doing that but it became really frustrating after the first 400 miles and then I started doing 8000 RPMs so what could be the consequences?

No, as long as you're varying the RPMs and not totally flogging the hell out of you're new engine, it shouldn't be a problem.

It's a bit of a controversial topic actually and you'll get many different opinions depending on who you ask. Some say do it exactly by the bike, some say flog it.

I say, take it a little higher than manufacturer's specs but not too high.

See,the higher the RPM's are,the more times the pistons hit the ignition position,therefor more fuel needs to be given to the engine itself,therefor more hp,but also more fuel consumption :)

But if it's a 50 CC,you really don't have to and also can't ride conservatively,because keeping it at low RPM's would make it go,like what,30-35 km/h? :)

these bikes r so nice, i hate when ppl say tht the 250cc engine isnt powerful enough. Its not about the displacement all the time, sometimes its about proper tuning and a well made bike, this thing can hit 80 easily with a 300 lb guy on it, as long as u know how to shift, and arent looking to be a speed demon this is an awesome bike. Another thing to add in, u can easily bore out this engine to increase displacement thereare addons galore for such a customizable bike.

600s only get 45mpg if you ride conservatively. if you ride a ninja 250 conservatively you get 65mpg. the reason it doesn't seem like a huge difference is because the 250 is geared so that it runs at high rpms all the time.

I owned a 2003 Ninja 636R (RIP) and was getting 35-40 mpg. I currently have an 08 Ninja 250R and I'm seeing 50-55 mpg and I abuse it on mountain highway twisties. I'm sure if I rode easier I could get 60-65. I don't think anyone will see 70 mpg on this bike, especially since gas mileage goes DOWN on the highway (about 8500 rpm in 6th gear for 65-70 mph)

The 636 and 250 are two totally different engines, 4 cyl vs parallel twin, and the power is obviously missing. The 250R is still faster than street cars and better in the turns. The 250 lets you learn how to properly ride twisties w/o having to worry about kicking the rear end out or going too fast too soon (which is still possible). My buddy has an SV650 and I keep up in the turns without a problem, but he'll pull me on the straights. Thing is, anyone can go fast in a straight line.

It's not that I don't like bigger bikes, and yes I do plan own owning one someday, but I'm pretty pleased with my 2008 250. Bigger Bikes are nice, im not bashing them, lets get the cleared up.
