I just put my 3 mango seeds which all have about 1 inch roots in pots with potting mix outside on my deck ( I live in NJ, so it gets between 87-93 usually during the day). I watered each of them pretty good with luke warm water. How often should I water them? Should I keep the water constantly moist or let it dry out a little? And how much sunlight should they see? Right now they are on a part of the deck which doesn't get direct light.
@Ar15snhappy It will start to grow in a few weeks. I plant the seed as soon as I am done eating the mango. I wash it first to get all the pulp off it.
Great mango plant mines just germinating. My idea is simple I first soaked it in water for 1 day then placed it in a styrofoam cup upright with seedling mix. Then I watered it then added more seedling mix to even out the soil. Now thats it's germinating I'm going to cut the bottom of the cup then plant it in my giant plastic pot so I don't need to transplant. I'm growing the mexican mango while your growing the yellow variety usually from india. :)
@PsycoLibraBoy I actually have a few more growing outside, the pant inside I only water twice a week, the plants I have outside I water almost every day because it is very hot here in Texas.
what variety of mango is this?

@acidexpierence I would water enough to keep them moist. I have grown some in full sun and some inside in shade either way they will grow.

@gentrysnavat yes that may be true on some varieties but most will do in about 6 years.

aren't you supposed to crack the shell from the seed then plant it?
bowler8 7 months ago
@bowler8 Some people do it, but you don't need to. Either way will work.
