The US governement and its intelligence did not research effectively the civil dispute occurring in Iraq and attempted to shift the focus away from "the war on terror" and into saving a nation they knew nothing about. This war should have had an effective exit strategy put in place once their dictator was removed.

The point is not about if the lack of WMDs was a lie or not...The problem occurred once the mistake is found. The lie happened after that mistake was discovered. The US government changed their agenda in Iraq and lost focus of its original "war on terror" cause. They ended up being a referee in a civil war costing the lives of thousands of US troops.

The Kurds live in parts of north Iraq, north-west Iran and the south-east of Turkey (maybe even in north-west Syria).

To get to pakistan they would have to cross Iran almost entirely. (over 800 miles to the nearest border of Pakistan)

George Tenet never explains why the NIE of 2002 concluded that Iraq had renewed production of chemical weapons. This was not a conclusion of any previous intelligence estimate. What changed? Politics. The intelligence was cooked by Cheney and the Neocons intent on fixing the intelligence to justify a preconceived war.
