The Harlem public school in Caleb's neighborhood does have approximately 80% of the children reading below grade level but it is not because the children are stupid, rather it is because the children are almost all English Language Learners whose parents come from West Africa. I don't appreciate how this documentary made it seem as if those children are lesser than Caleb when in fact they are great children with a lot of potential. I know this, because I just started teaching there.
