@nascarfanatic2425 I uses to be a fan of NASCAR in the 80s, But now its like watching a parade for 4 hours. Same thing with drag racing, Cutting 320 feet off the quarter mile because the cars are going too fast. I got to see IMSA races at Daytona and Sebring in the 1980-83 time frame and it was balls to the wall speed. 935 Porsche's at Daytona doing 230mph on the straights. Now it looks like a day at the go cart track. "Safety Rules" have turned motorsports into shit.

In my opinion, the biggest thing that hurt NASCAR is Jimmie Johnson. Drag racing, too short. That day was one of the greatest Sundays of my life. I think the problem is that Nascar is built on being dramatic. It's not a sport because of the artificiality (in many ways, Nascar does all it can to make the end of a race dramatic, and it's unusual for the best team over the endurance of 500 miles to actually win).
This attracts some drama queens to the races, and they are more interested in hating whoever than in appreciating the skill of the driving. They don't get it.

There is no way anyone can calculate the points of the old system since it not used anymore. There was something called season long pressure back when Earnhardt won his. Mind games and so forth were used. There is no way to use any of those in just ten races. Calculators are of no meaning when comparing the two.
Oh, I see, so you're saying Johnson would have 0 titles using the old system based on nothing more than pure speculation that he wouldn't have had the same finishes if the points system were different, which cannot be proven or backed up by anything more than your OPINION. However, if the race results over a 36-race span in 2006 and 2009 were exactly the same under the old system or the new system, he would have still been the champion at season's end. That, my friend, is a statistical FACT.

But you have to consider how many wins would Earnhardt really have if he had to race back in the day when racing was racing --- none of that restrictor plate crap. You don't seriously think he could have gone bumber-to-bumper with Petty, Yarborough, Pearson, the Allison boys. And now, after the "Earnhardt era", we've got real drivers again like Gordon, Stewart, Johnson, etc., etc. Earnhardt only won so many because of a lack of real competition - too many pretty boys.

2. Jr has gotten a solid top ten points standing and may make the chase without a win at this point
3. Truck series is a rookie series. Kyle busch runs all 3 series almost every week. A few other top level drivers also run the lower series.
4. if Sr left him 200 million dollars, its his to as he wishes.
5. Dale Jr. will win a champ in sprint cup very soon, without winning a single race.

@nascarfanatic2425 I uses to be a fan of NASCAR in the 80s, But now its like watching a parade for 4 hours. Same thing with drag racing, Cutting 320 feet off the quarter mile because the cars are going too fast. I got to see IMSA races at Daytona and Sebring in the 1980-83 time frame and it was balls to the wall speed. 935 Porsche's at Daytona doing 230mph on the straights. Now it looks like a day at the go cart track. "Safety Rules" have turned motorsports into shit.

@ExtremePeppers Yeah, they've made too many rules nowadays. Now as far as the safety, they sorta need the mandated stuff to protect our drivers nowadays. In my opinion, the biggest thing that hurt NASCAR is Jimmie Johnson. Drag racing, too short. Yeah, I love watching cars go well over 200 mph, (racing is about speed), but they've done too much in Motorsports anymore.

I think the problem is that Nascar is built on being dramatic. It's not a sport because of the artificiality (in many ways, Nascar does all it can to make the end of a race dramatic, and it's unusual for the best team over the endurance of 500 miles to actually win).
This attracts some drama queens to the races, and they are more interested in hating whoever than in appreciating the skill of the driving. They don't get it.

I don't care who the driver is, throwing stuff on the track at them is just ridiculous. That is exactly why NASCAR has a bad name among many people. Some "fans" are just pathetic. This is ridiculous. He is my favorite driver! He has phenomenal driving skills and its sad that a bunch of you won't admit that. He does a ton of things for charity. I obviously know that not everybody is going to like a certain driver but no matter what driver it is you should respect them and should not make rude comments like some of you did. There is no way anyone can calculate the points of the old system since it not used anymore. There was something called season long pressure back when Earnhardt won his. Mind games and so forth were used. There is no way to use any of those in just ten races. Calculators are of no meaning when comparing the two.

Oh, I see, so you're saying Johnson would have 0 titles using the old system based on nothing more than pure speculation that he wouldn't have had the same finishes if the points system were different, which cannot be proven or backed up by anything more than your OPINION. However, if the race results over a 36-race span in 2006 and 2009 were exactly the same under the old system or the new system, he would have still been the champion at season's end. That, my friend, is a statistical FACT.

For 2009, Jeff's average start is 11.4. His average finish is 10.9. He has completed 98.5% of the races so far this year.

Personally Jeff Gordon has said he doesn't care if he gets booed, so I doubt he cares if people beer-bomb him. I personally think myself that the people who do beer-bomb him, are immature. I would never do that, and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is my second-favorite driver behind Jeff Gordon.

But you have to consider how many wins would Earnhardt really have if he had to race back in the day when racing was racing --- none of that restrictor plate crap. You don't seriously think he could have gone bumber-to-bumper with Petty, Yarborough, Pearson, the Allison boys. And now, after the "Earnhardt era", we've got real drivers again like Gordon, Stewart, Johnson, etc., etc. Earnhardt only won so many because of a lack of real competition - too many pretty boys.

Bill Elliott, Mark Martin, Terry Labonte, Tim Richmond, Ernie Irvan, Rusty Wallace, Darrell Waltrip, Bobby Allison, Cale Yarborough, Richard Petty, Buddy Baker, Benny Parsons, Davey Allison, Jeff Gordon, Alan Kulwicki is who was in Earnhardt's era. LOL if Earnhardt raced pre 1979 with all the money that about only 5 drivers had behind them and Big E was one of those big money teams. You're right....he would have won only 400 races and 25 championships racing 80 races a year. Good point.
