This was my first RPG and STILL one of my all-time favorite games. I managed to beat him one-on-one, but beating him at such a low level is insane! Well played!!
O_o And erm...I never played this game before, but level 12~13 is pretty damn low by about any RPG's standards. Great job, and I'm probably going to get my ass whooped when I play this game.
Theoretically, it is, but you'll want him to limit himself to physical attacks and miss a lot too (or hope that Pan Pizza works and he just uses the physical). You do only need to summon 4 dragons to beat him solo so the chances aren't as slim as you might think but I don't really want to try it.
I actually beat him with a limited amount of items, at the time I believe I was around lvl 23-24 but then again I love being majorly under lvled to fight hard bosses
Some stuff that can be cooked imitate the effect of spells, e.g. Pan Pizza does the same thing as the Pwr. Down spell. Some are even more advanced; for example, Moon Drop revives and heals everyone, restoring HP to max.
Cool, go for it! I think a solo battle will rely heavily on getting Pan Pizza to work ASAP and then having the boss use mostly the physical attack. Cooking some items that restore HP AND MP is a must, too.
I just beat it with Ryu solo save stating every turn, proving my earlier assumption that it's possible. Basically, every attack must be a physical and Pan Pizza must connect immediately. In other words, not very likely at all. I guess it could be a bit easier at lv. 18.
Theoretically, it is, I suppose, if Barubary uses his physical every turn and it keeps missing, but that's not going to happen. It's very possible in a normal game though but not in an LLG (unless you seriously abuse the vitamins).
I think Barubary will have 1K less HP if you fight him solo, either that or he doesn't recover the HP you diminished in the first battle.
Raise your stats. Since you can technically cook as many as possible, you can have lv. 12/13 characters with all stats maxed as if they were lv. 100. I only used those I found in chests to keep the challenge challenging.
The Guts stat controls how likely it is for the character to defy death when killed, like Katt does when struck by Bolt X in this battle. The maximum is 25% when all seven fires are lit up, iirc, and you can imagine what my chances were with just one fire in Katt's case.
Congratz man. And haha at that Bolt X. Speedy Katt safed you :) Just be glad this happened at start of battle, not having Def.Up after a few G.Dragons would have meant toast, and that dodges you did.. just wow :) But, when did Power Down status connect? I see his last melee attack do measly 30 damage to Katt, which would suggest it did, but couldn't make it out even looking the vid twice. Didn't matter much either way though :)
I must say I didn't understand it either. I watched the vid half a dozen of tries and in the end just came up with the conclusion that I have a terrible case of ADD.
"Could it be that his strength goes down when you bring him to his death? I can't think of a reasonable explanation."
Actually it is vice verse: when his HP is below 1500, he doubles his ATK. If you don't dodge, you are toast under any circumstance (you got lucky with breathes there, they are not ATK based), which is why Pan Pizza is suggested.
True, I got lucky with the breath attack... And I don't know how to explain him getting lame towards the end. I've never experienced a situation when I'm told that my attempt of inflicting a status is a failure when it actually succeeds (but obviously plenty of the opposite: when I'm not notified of failure from using Biscuit and the like one time too many).
I actually beat him alone. But I did a lot of training and was at high level. But it was back then.....

This is obviously why Breath of Fire II is a good game. It completely makes up for the horrible translation. The first game, however, not so much...

You can get as many as you like from stepping on the coloured squares in Thieves' Tomb.

Well done. I have trouble beating this guy with my characters all in the 30s, but you've managed to do the impossible. Impressive.

Is it possible to defeat Barubary solo under level 30? I can't even do it at 45!
Damn, you got lucky with bolt X, he SPAMS it on me to no end!

Gotta admit, Barubary LOOKS frightning.
That battle was cool. Very epic. I REALLY like what Barubary's normal attack looks like.

That was likely one of the rarest and most awesome battles I've seen.
Makes me TEMPTED to try this. But with a solo Lv18 Ryu. Hm...

Uh, AP, of course.
MoogleBoss 3 years ago
there is no item like that :) At level 18, Ryu will have 140 HP (with WildCat bonus). Would be even more luck-intensive then this normal fight imo.

For some reason, that ending had me laugh.
I suppose it was because he got struck (several times) with a G.Dragon dealing major damage but couldn't survive a little bomb in the face.
I wonder, is this battle possible if you choose Ryu to go solo (as Barubary will lose a certain % of his stats from what I know if you does).
Nice battle, anyway.

Hm... Might be.
What does the vitamins do? (Note: I rarely use those consindering I prefere just running through and killing everything I see).
Also, do you know what the Guts stat does?

Also, don't forget that Ryu has the ability Guts, which should be proportionally linked to the Guts stat.
MoogleBoss 3 years ago
I see, thanks!
And I know what Ryu's Guts does (saved me plenty of times O.o)
Ryu (2 HP left, only one I had alive)
Me: ....I'm dead. Might as well give Guts a shot.
*Restores (near full) HP*
Me: SWEET!
He managed to pull off a critical right afterwards, too, killing the boss (thankfully)
