  • Just Perfect.

  • That was so lovely. Thank you for a lift in my day. It's such a charming and poignant song, both in melody and lyrics. I'm so glad when I find my favorite music kept alive by others. I can't think of much better uses for YouTube :)

  • You could fill in for Hackett. I'd give important body parts to be able to do what you do. You must have such joy in your heart doing this stuff.

  • FLOORING!! GREAT JOB!!

  • Unbelieveable. Great! I really love this song.

  • To unknownkingdom

Do this tab man or maybe Troubleclef can do something for us but don't let us wait unvain ;-)

  • such a simple and soothing song!

  • wow. bravo.

  • Thank you.

  • Fabulous as usual Mr Clef :)

  • I almost cry. Thanks for posting.

  • hey, do you have a tab of this arrangement ?

  • Someone needs to create a tab for this arrangement. Perhaps I will do it myself if I have time.

  • As a guitarist myself I can appreciate so much about your playing. So clean, precise and sensitive to the length and tone of each note. Not to mention your brilliant arrangements & your own distinct sound. Bravo, my friend!

    Amy

  • Great great great!

You should consider the possibility of making tutorials or DVD about the songs You play, just like jreichbart‬‎

It surely would be a success!

    Thank you very much!

  • Thanks for making my day!

  • Bravo!!!!

  • bellissima interpretazione come sempre, naturalmente!!! che chitarra hai?

  • Excellent soothing like a cup of tea in fine china so hard to find in America!!

You are very talented!! Perhaps you can also do Supertramp's Downstream a lovely piece?

  • @000000055555

don't know it, but i used to toy around with the 'logical song'. :D i'll check out 'downstream'

  • Beautiful arrangement of this classic. I really like the way you filled out the bass end; esp. at " wonder if they're late for work"

    Amy

  • search for steve hackett - for absent friends

  • Enhorabuena, me encantan tus interpretaciones de las piezas de Génesis; demuestras que eran pequeñas obras maestras.

  • COMMOVENTE MERAVIGLIOSA...

  • Wow amazing!! You cant help but watch it again and again..

  • bravissimoooo!!!!!

  • superbe cover ! bravo5/5

  • Great job! if your not in a band or somethin get yourself on britans got talent...lol

  • You are a fan of melodic music, you are so good at interpretation your style is un ique and bloody great. Try some Rush!

  • One fix. The music was written by Steve Hackett and the lyrics were written by Collins and Hackett. One of their best songs and it is a shame that Collins and especially Hackett were restrained from contributing at that time. Hackett was never treated particularly well by the public school boys aka toffs who founded the group.

  • I don't know if I got you right but the initial members of Genesis studied in private schools.

  • In the UK expensive private schools for some reason are known as "public" schools.

  • amazing song!

  • Inside the archway the priest greets them with a curteous nod - he's close to God.

Looking back at days of 4 instead of 2.

Fear seeps in two heads bent in prayer for friends not there.

Leaving 10p on the plate they hurry down the path and through the gate and wait to board the bus that ambles down the street.

    ---

dunno if I got them all right!

  • Sunday at 6, when they close both the gates,

a widowed pair, still sitting there. Wonder if they're late for church?

And it's cold. So they fasten their coats and cross the grass. They're always last.

Passing by the padlocked swings, the roundabout still turning, ahead they see a small girl on her way home with her pram.

  • Mr. Troubleclef. Some guitar player you are. I like to sing along (to the horror of my kids). I know most words by heart.

  • hiii gidd songg (Y)

  • Altro meraviglioso brano dei Genesis (quelli veri, non i loro orribili cloni degli anni '80 e successivi) suonato magistralmente! Bravissimo!!

  • "Some day at 6 when they close both the gates"

OMG! Needless to say . Awesome !

I use to listen your songs singing along.

    I'm waiting for Trespass' DUSK.

  • Simply amazing, I'm speachless.

  • Great

    thanks

    Dez Sanderson

    Walcott

  • I know this might be too much asking but... could you write the tab please?

  • netenute, the tab is in guitarpro, if you odon't have it I can send you a pdf with it´

    Jordi

  • Hi Jordi, please could you let me have the tab or tell me where to find it. I would give my right arm for it if I didnt need it to pick with ;+)

  • Amazing. I love your work. This was great. Firth of Fifth was unbelievable.

  • well done mr. troubleclef.

    It's a sort a small sweet picture.

  • I love this whole album; and I really enjoyed your rendition of this fine tune. thank you!

  • another fan-fukkin-tastic rendition of a great Genesis tune!! Well done man!! It must've taken years to get down all of the nuances of these tunes.

  • fcking brilliant playing and rendition +10

  • I sometimes come back to this video to feed my spirit...claps to you

  • Oh, that sure was beautiful, and you know, I always thought "For Absent Friends" was their finest hour. I absolutely must to learn it. Thank you, you marvellous man, you made my day. Also I am most grateful for "Firth Of Fifth" just so you would know it.

    Samuli

  • thanks a bunch.

  • I don't know Genesis all that much, but dude, you just awed me in ways I never imagined... Awesome sounding guitar! Awesome picking!

  • perfect sound..

  • ancora complimenti da me che sai sono un tuo grande estimatore

    by from Italy

  • I can't believe you can play all these classic Genesis tunes.. amazing

  • Excellent!

  • just perfect, keep up with this good work

  • This guy is amazing his arrangements capture everything that was Genesis and if anyone thinks they can fault him technically post your video and let see it!

  • Beautiful and a great arrangement of the song. It would be lovely to hear you play the lovely hackett piece Marigold.

  • leaving two pence on the plate! GREAT Troubleclef

  • Tuppance.... Just to be pedantic!

    Great song and beautifully played.

  • thats piss

  • Sensacional!!! ^^

  • Damn, yer so awesome.

  • Aww, lovely! Karaoke Genesis!

  • glorious!!!

  • fantastic!! bravo!!

  • reminds me of Fisherman's Horizon, of Final Fantasy 8, in some ways.

  • AWESOME FINAL FANTASY.

  • You know when I listen to the soundtracks for many of the Final Fantasy games, I hear Genesis, ELP and a couple other old prog groups. I remember watching an interview with Nobuo Uematsu and he talked about those old group's influence on him. This may be his homage to them haha.

  • marvellous, superb rendition of a bit of a hidden gem

  • Beautiful! Brings tears to my eyes........

  • Amazing!!!!!

  • Thanks a lot!!!..y love this album.

    you play beautifully.

i was looking for "seven stones" chords.

    Keep playing, man!

  • I love this song! What a little gem from Genesis's Nursery crime.

  • This pretty song is from "Nursery crime",one of my favourite albums. Thanks a lot!(Maybe, the next could be "Musical box"?)

  • the richard sinclair version is on a magna carter genesis tribute album calles suppers ready

  • thanks so much for sharing your talent.

beautiful song and you truely did it justice.

  • Simply fantastic! Congrats to that wonderfully played version.

  • Fantastic

  • Impeccable!!!

  • Have you ever heard the cover of this sung by Richard Sinclair? If you can find it anywhere it's well worth a listen. His voice suits it perfectly.

  • i haven't. is that the singer from Caravan and Hatfield & the North and so on? I do like his voice.

  • The very same. Sinclair's interpretation appeared on an album of Genesis covers by various artists called "Supper's Ready". If you run a google search you can download the tracks for 99 cents each.

  • Phil Collins - Lead voice on ¨For Absent Friends¨ - No doubt !

  • could somebody help me out here please? The who played a song at the end of the glastonbury 2007 dedicated to absent friends entwistle/moon is this the track?

  • tu me redonnes l'envie de jouer. MERCI

  • Dude, this is like 3 times more than Hackett played LOL

    Very nice.

  • great!!!!! :)

  • Excellent!

Beautiful song from a fantastic album.

And btw, Phil didnt sing lead before he sang "More Fool Me" at Selling England By The Pound.

  • phil sang lead on this one. all you have to do is listen to it to know!

  • I'd rather agree with ESaetre. Pit's and Phil's voices were very much alike those times but according to the info I got from various sources Phi's first leading vocal was on More Fool Me. Peace :)

  • youre right rekluse23, sorry ESaetre but it is very clear that Phil sing on this song.

  • this is beautiful stuff

  • Nice one. :)

  • Very nice. One of my favorite Genesis songs. Anyone know if Phil sings on it with Peter. I think Phil does the high bits.

  • thanks. i'm pretty sure it's Phil's lead vocal with Peter doing harmonies. Anyhow, i hear mostly phil on it. Same with "Harlequin"

  • You are right about Phil singing lead on both songs. One of my fave Gen songs. The earlier albums had lovely songs like this. Are we sure it is Steve's playing? I was suprised that Tony Banks did a lot of 12-string work. I recall going to Peaches record store just after Steve left. The three of them were there and they were very nice. Have you ever played this tune on a 6/12 string w/steel strings? I would love to here it. I will listen to all your videos. Very nice work.

  • Thanks. i owned an unplayable 12-string about 25 years ago so i didn't get very far with it. I'd like to get a quality 12-string some day, but that's a bit down the road.

  • I believe in Harlequin Pete is doing the lead vocals.

  • yeah, you may be right come to think of it. i do *hear* more Phil than usual in there, but Pete is the lead.

  • I can't believe what I am hearing....man, you got such a talent...you have my greates admiration, pls keep on playing and posting, thank you.

  • I play this song as well but with the standard chords. I had to figure it by ear and match it all with the words. Notice the Troubleclef picks out the notes rather than plays chords. He does it well.

  • very very good song...

  • Oh my! I love the sound of classical guitar as you play it (and I love Genesis or I wouldn't be watching this video). Very good!

  • Wonderfully played! Well done.

  • amazingly enough you make this song seem as if it's merely a warm up

  • Perfect! Great choice, great version - as always. Cheers!

  • Absolutely beautiful.. A truly emotional song, excellent performance!

  • wow wow!! pure greatness...I am a fan of genesis and a guitarist...I wish I could pay them tribute like you do, you got so much talent, thanks for all these great interpretations

  • thanks

  • wow

  • brilliant.

i'd love to see you work out "Dance on a Volcano"- at least the final (speedy) part of it! :O

  • yeah, well, that's the hard part isn't it, my friend? (smiley smile) i could do the earlier part easier. maybe i will sometime. thanks.

  • One of the best Genesis songs that went "under the radar"--fantastic job on the video replying with acoustic guitar only.

    Ian Schneider

  • Real nice. Also liked "can utility". Try "After the ordeal" - it's great for a solo nylon-string and seem to fit your style as well

  • Good stuff, spreading the Genesis love.

Just shows how good Steve Hackett is too.

  • Mate - truly fantastic. Can't really add much more than what the others have already said - but this is the first one I've seen and I'm going back to look at all your others. Brilliant.

  • Wow... is really good. Keep on posting other things.. Congratulations ! I have an absent friend that may love it too.

    Monica

  • This is actually excellent. Have you tried to redo Harlequin from Genesis ? I have never seen anyone play it ... :-(

  • thanks. "harlequin"-- that's a tough one. all those intertwiny 12 strings and vocal harmonies. an instrumental on only 6 strings can only do so much. I would love to work it out though.

  • too good...absoluitely wonderful

  • I know the words to this one, tried to sing along but I started to cry my eyes out and my voice completely cracked

  • wow, very nice

  • You made my day,,,,Wonderful!

  • Well done troubleclef. Really remarkable.

  • Great stuff, thank - I love those Genesis tunes.

Any chance of excerpts from Firth of Fifth by Genesis ? Another of my all time favourites.

I have step by step figured out a little part of it, and I think ( parts of) this tune could really make a great and demanding piece for solo guitar - especially when pleayed by someone as skilled as you ;-)

  • I would also love to hear you play Ralph McTell's "Hands of Joseph" including the Joseph Spence instrumental "Great Dreams of Heaven"/ "There will be a happy meeting" that Ralph usually wraps his tribute to Spence up with.

Keep up the good work ;-)

  • Come on!! Take your mask off!! You must be Hackett!!

    Saludos amigo!!!

  • This ludic performance was the first one that I saw from you, I was searching for Genesis'Harlequin and then I found you. Thanks to the lovely old boys.Miss them toguether again someday. Good times! Beijo grande!

    Vera

  • you look fine without beard too!

    :o)

  • Hi, thanks!

  • Please, master, do you can record this lessons in a contrapicado, from above and from your right, to see the acords executions better?. please, master, please!!!

  • Sir, you are a genius and an inspiration. Not only is your playing magnificent, and your choice of pieces a veritable treasure trove of my favourite songs, but your arrangements are making me hear these old Genesis numbers in a whole new way. I will learn a lot from you. Thank you so much for sharing your work with us.

  • thank you!

  • For a second I thought you were John Silver! Terrific playing!

  • realy beatifull

  • So the roundabout's still turning ...

    Thank you

  • beautifully done.really really beautifully done.genesis for life.

  • your guitar sing wonderfull, nice choose

  • find no words... really a great guitar player and this are all not easy tracks to play... i'm a genesis fan and from now on a trouclef fan

  • I created a special folder on my Explorer browser. It's called, "Troubleclef". It says it all!

  • Would it be possible to record the same song but with different playing, and put them together to give the impression that two guitarists are playing? If so, the one song I would like to hear in that fashion would be Stagnation. I don't think that Genesis ever played more fascinating guitar playing that Stagnation.

  • one of my all time favorite genesis songs also. somewhat problematic for arranging in fingerstyle though. long section that calls for pick strumming where it sort of rocks out with a long keyboard bit soloing over the top of it. that wouldn't work in fingerstyle too well. I could do excerpts (like i've done with most of the Genesis things) i guess. I've thought about it.

  • I'm supposed to be working but I keep clicking on these vids! Lovely playing. I requested Mad Man Moon a while back and lo and behold I heard it today. It's my fave Genesis song and brought tears to my eyes.

  • Fantastic

  • fantastic. kong time since I've heard that one. well done. thanks

  • ooooooo it's great man!

  • Amazing!

  • awesome. good choice, excellent playing!!!

  • That was brilliant! I'd love to be able to do finger style like that someday.

  • When's the CD coming out?

  • I'll buy your CD of Yes and Genesis interpretations any day. What composers they were!! And your arrangements are wonderful. Keep'em coming. What about Turn of the Century? Or Leaves of Green. Or Seven Stones? Or ...
