Most of these complaints are stupid. An organization has every right to insist that members pay for the costs of running the organization.
The reason to be offended by scientology is because is based on utter horse-shit, like pretty much every religion. Don't like it, don't give them money.

wow, i wish i had such fan mail, rocking and shocking. you guys make me realize there's so much interesting stuff in the world, you got loads of material on the web, -very appreciated!
Scientology as whole with all it's adds, is merely another mental construct and the strife should be reallocated to know that, before jumping to judgment about any such thing, it's great to know this insight exists, though it's shallow enough to mostly attract people with already set preferences.
Every post paid envelope you can find from scientology & Dianetics. Fill it with a print out of Xenu Leaflet. Than tape it to a brick and send it back as a response. Best way to protest. Tell all your friend to do this. The church of scientology will have a huge mail bill and each letter opened will free one of their members. Once you red Xenu leaflet they kick you out automatically. Tell as many people as you can. Power of the many. A million people send bricks back that should do something.
No major religion coerces its members to pay for religious services. Scientology requires its members to pay "fixed donations" for any service. Staff members aggressively try to convince other Scientologists to purchase services in a practice known as "hard regging". Furthermore, staff and Sea Org members are often recruited with the promise of free services, but required to do nearly unpaid work for the organization in exchange, and will be billed for a "freeloader debt" if they leave.
@OpenComments Nor do other religions block their literature from the people. The bible is pretty much available to anywhere free religion exists. The Quran is for anyone who wants it, and the Baghadavita is available on the net. But to find the truth behind Scientology, you have to PAY.
@OpenComments While you're correct about SeaOrg members basically being slaves, I would argue that most religions have a built in system for extorting money from their membership. Some are more than willing to help you ith your taxes in order to help you find out if your donations are on track for the year.
A little "donation math". If you give $10/week every week for an entire year, you would donate $480/year to a Christian church. After a full 50 years of attendance, someone making $50,000/year would have donated $24,000 dollars. This is very little in comparison to the $400,000 + price tag put on "enlightenment" by CO$.
Is this the type of "extortion" you are talking about?
@OpenComments The bible calls for you to set aside the first portion of your income and 10%. That covers main stream Christians. I know the LDS church feels very strongly about tithes and will indeed help you to ensure you have your soul insurance. Yes, the church of hubbard asks for much more.
Tell me this, Why does the pope live in a Castle when Jesus proclaimed it easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a wealthy man to get into heaven?
I'm not arguing for nor against other religions "extorting money" as you put it. I'm arguing that just because other religions "extort money" from their membership, does not justify Scientology coercing its members to pay mandatory donations for its services. Staff members constantly pressure Scientologists to purchase services (a la "hard regging"). This is wrong. And this is also not done by other religions (Scientology is not a religion, by the way).
@OpenComments your argument was - "No religion coerce members to pay for religious service. Scientology requires fixed donations."
Many major religions Do coerce people into tithing. There are churches that use pretty invasive measure to promote tithing. I don' want to drag this into a flame war, and I am no friend of scientology, but on what basis is it any less valid a religion? On what basis does any organized extension of faith of belief constitute a religion?
You're sounding a bit general when you say "many major religions coerce people into tithing" and "there are churches that use pretty invasive measures to promote tithing". If you can provide me with links in private involving these specific cases, I will be happy to read them.
Scientology is not a religion. During the 1950s, L. Ron Hubbard undertook a project of "religious cloaking", turning a system that had been promoted as a secular "science of mental health" into a religion through minor changes, such as referring to Scientology personnel as "ministers." This process has been detailed by former Scientologists. Furthermore, Scientology meets several characteristics of a cult, as defined by FACTNet.
Scientology was a religion that originated from a jovial bet between L Ron Hubbard and Timothy Leary over who can make their own religion the fastest. L Ron Hubbard won. The church of scientology is bunk. if you join and realize later they are a ponzi scheme, they will hound you for the rest of your life. look at what they did to Isaac Hayes!

"If attacked on some vulnerable point by anyone or anything or any organization, always find or manufacture enough threat against them to cause them to sue for peace. Peace is bought with an exchange of advantage, so make the advantage and then settle. Don't ever defend. Always attack. Don't ever do nothing. Unexpected attacks in the rear of the enemy's front ranks work best." - L. Ron Hubbard, Hubbard Communications Office Policy Letter, "Department of Governmental Affairs", 15 Aug 1960
and always have been , trust me , my parents are scientologist , and no matter how many times i change my phone number , they always get my number and every 30 minut they call me for an event invitation or some shi*
Ha. My parents are Scientologists too and I have the same problem. I changed my number a bunch of times but the church still won't stop calling me. It's maddening. I'm just lucky my parents weren't stupid enough to join the Sea Org because then I would have been coerced to join when I was a child.
well i tihnk scientologist believe that some alien drop alien souls down to earth causing our emotions that we hav today (also they think is ok to hav intercorse with there children
That ad made me sick. The entire time I was caught between "wow, this is a neat ad, it totally appeals to me in this style" and "fuck, this is going to end telling me that scientology will solve my problems". Gah, now I regret it.
Hey, I just wanted to say that Scientology is just doing what Christianity has done many many times in the past, And no I'm not defending neither of them because i dislike both religions, I'm atheist, I just believe Scientology is doing the exact same thing other religions do...pursue money.
I dont think Scientology is pursuing money, seeing some of the most wealthy are scientolgists. It is more to do with power to keep the system on things the same. The new age will create balance among all rather than what we have now,80% of the wealth belongs to 5% of the populus. "The landminds are disguised as welcome signs" - Mos Def.
The first images that flash on that scientology site are subliminal. check it out scary stuff. read L. Ron Hubbard mad man or messiah, black magic ritual sex magick ect. Hubbard was a deciple of Aleister Crowley. I dont believe in magic but hubbard did at least know the facts.
I wouldn't totally agree with the notion of religion as virus. Perhaps, given the nature of religion today, as a source of great social and political strife and discord, it might be viral. But, the actual "inclination" of the human mind-and cultures-to pine away for things transcendent, one might use the term "meme" to better define a universal human experience, transmissible along generations.
Its just that a major paradigmatic shift has taken place in Western world- much of the Middle-East apparently being the exception. Explanatory modes, and tools and means of arriving at some understanding of ourselves, and the world around us, sometimes falls short with the scientific method. Still, this is no excuse for falling back on atavisms and Dark Age thinking.
I don't see how Scientology abusing its followers is any different than say a religion that says God wants men to have their penis cut up. It's like any other organized religion that has all these rules you have to follow rather than decide for yourself.
Scientology is an abusive religion because it's a cult. It functions as a cult because it slowly indoctrinates its members by filling their head with propaganda..
As for religion in general, many of the prophecies written in the books have came to pass. This is why I'm religious--Because I know there is a god, I know his prophets speak truth. There is also an ultimate evil, his evil left eye is on the back of every us $1 bill...
Yep. I don't know much about Horus, but I'll compare him to two other spirits of reason: Greek's Prometheus and Christianity's Serpent in the Garden. I know that Prometheus and the Serpent (thought to be the devil) both gave mankind a gift: the gift of knowledge. However, this gift of knowledge never brought us any good, tought us to make war with eachother, and they were both against god's wishes.
This equilateral triangle is in conjuction with the devil. It has degree measurements of 60,60,60
Are you sure it was a gift? I think this gift was given with the knowledge of what we would do with it without the proper knowledge of how to use it. What we have is a beautiful gift, but it was given to us without proper knowledge of how to use it. I liken it to giving a 11 year old a gun and saying "you will figure it out".
Ya. That is exactly it, that's exactly it. Its like pow, bap, sploog. It's like when you drive past an accident you know, you're the only one that can help. Keep on smokin the herb.
Dean, Reese... There are Scientology ads all over your video. Oh and I think I'm going to start calling you guy to leave bullshit messages, hopefully to give you a few laughs.
You don't "give people AIDS", one person transmits the HIV virus to another. AIDS occurs after infection, and not all HIV+ people become diagnosed with AIDS. Please take the time to educate yourself.
i ordered a free copy of the way to happiness..and it is surprisingly broad and basic. i thought scientologists were smart..it seems like they are aiming their advertisements to idiots which kinda disapointed me. and then i got a hand written cheery little letter in the mail from the local scientology church..hand written! they must be desperate...disapointing
i saw a way to happiness ad that was just a 360 shot of a frame of a bullet coming out of a gun while a 911 call of a frantic woman played in the background. then the caption came up, "Do Not Murder.
nice link guys thanks :] had some problems in my family with drugs and things and hope that no one else will have them as a child growing in a family of this kind i really gona make sure that my family wont be like this and my life wont be over drugs hope that pepole will diced same as i did....
Even though you might not agree with the "Faith" that is your personal business. The beautiful thing about America is that the freedoms that many American's died for help to preserve the right to Freedom of Religious believes NO MATTER WHAT YOU BELIEVE! Buddhist, Hindu, Islam, Scientology, Christianity, or ANY Belief for that matter. Who are Europeans think they are to have the right to tell how Americans what to believe? Hello? It is a matter of CHOICE and nothing more!
All religions are scams. Period. Only Atheism (which in itself is not a religion but the absence of) is true to its believers.. Or should I say those that have the sense to believe in science and applied logic.
Now don't get me wrong, I personally get a big kick out of bronze age mythology as much as the next person...:)
What's with Europe aggressively attacking the Scientologists? Sure, they're scammers out to manipulate people, but what business or religion isn't? It's favoritism; inequality in rights.
Does Scientology actually donate money for charitable reasons? I don't think so (correct me if I'm wrong). The IRS actually removed their tax-exempt status in 1967 because THEY knew it was a scam and no money was going to charities or religious expansion. Compare it to the catholic church, that spends all its money on churches and charities. I'll safely say that the Catholic Church isn't a "scam"
Only to you, it's not a scam. Perhaps it's a scam in a sense to control your life under one person's selfish opinion? There's no point in "banning" or heavily regulating one religion because one person deems it "less important" or "dangerous" to the public. That's promotion of inequality and blatant tyranny and favoritism.
The Catholic Church doesn't "control" any aspect of your life. A person in the Catholic church is free to "commit sin", ignore "sacraments" and do anything else. A member isn't required to pay or give anything to the church, and the church's ultimate goal is salvation and the betterment of mankind. The church of scientology? Their ultimate purpose is to make money and spend it on themselves, that cannot be denied.
Neither does the Church of Scientology. A person is free to "not pay" their money and such. The Catholic church wants to control who you sleep with, what you eat, who you idolize, etc.
Stop being ignorant and making up excuses to randomly ban/ prosecute for being different from your norms, fascist.
A scam is some dishonest that results in personal gain on the part of the scammer. The Catholic church isn't "scamming" because it gains nothing. All it does is sustain itself, its practices and give money to charities. Hubbard started his church to get rich, he's said it before. Don't call me ignorant, because I never said this church should be "banned". I'm correcting you. Scientology can be defined as a scam, and not all religions seek personal gain.
It gains more control over the population and maintains the reproduction of their view points. Just because it isn't out to necessarily grab money doesn't mean one isn't out for personal gain. Where did you hear Hubbard say this? From some biased magazine? Or some lunatic celebrity that left it? Anyway, why are you arguing with me then? My point was that so many countries go out of their way to aggressively outlaw it because of one person's opinion of "danger" or of the "true religion".
I'm going to assume that you're part of some protestant group, and therefor are immediately on the defensive when I mention Catholicism. Read my posts, I'm talking about scams, not what religion is right or wrong... what should be banned or not. If you want to talk about the validity of the Catholic church versus protestant churches, this isn't the place
Yes, the betterment of mankind, through persecution of everyone not of their faith, killing of pagans, witches, Islamic, yup doing a damn good job at bettering mankind through genocide.
The guy that was mailing you was Thomas wasn't it? The guy that spammed Ipower ning and got banned. He constantly makes new Youtube profile names and is generally wacked out. Forgot what his old names were but he'd always spam your comment box on your AtheneWins profile page. I KNOW YOU KNOW WHO I'M TALKING ABOUT. lol. You cant miss him.
What's the deal with the rat beards.. you guys look like 14 year olds.. Dude in the back, try a comb and not so much gel.. Looks like a Jerry Curl and what the hell are you staring at? Just look at the camera.. lol
Ultimately, they're just_selling_a variant of Results Magic that can be learned free elsewhere. Oh, that and they want your all your spiritual energy gifted to the L. Ron Hubbard godform.
did you know that L. Ron Hubbard's "bible" or whatever they call it was a book first but he couldnt sell it so he made up a religion he said "You don't get rich writing science fiction. If you want to get rich, you start a religion" and . "I'd like to start a religion. That's where the money is!"
so in my opinion he never cared about anyone but him and his money
Make a YT blog video "exposing" scientology's new viral scheme. People, naturally curious of course, will flock to the site to see what the scheme is all about. Stupid, but clever. I'm not watching the scientology videos though.

Ha. My parents are Scientologists too and I have the same problem. I changed my number a bunch of times but the church still won't stop calling me. It's maddening. I'm just lucky my parents weren't stupid enough to join the Sea Org because then I would have been coerced to join when I was a child.

Hey, I just wanted to say that Scientology is just doing what Christianity has done many many times in the past, And no I'm not defending neither of them because i dislike both religions, I'm atheist, I just believe Scientology is doing the exact same thing other religions do...pursue money.
boeatsbrains 2 years ago
I dont think Scientology is pursuing money, seeing some of the most wealthy are scientolgists. It is more to do with power to keep the system on things the same. The new age will create balance among all rather than what we have now,80% of the wealth belongs to 5% of the populus. "The landminds are disguised as welcome signs" - Mos Def.

Glad you are relating religion using the word "Viral."
Yes, religion is a virus, as in sickness to ones system.
nolobede 2 years ago
I wouldn't totally agree with the notion of religion as virus. Perhaps, given the nature of religion today, as a source of great social and political strife and discord, it might be viral. But, the actual "inclination" of the human mind-and cultures-to pine away for things transcendent, one might use the term "meme" to better define a universal human experience, transmissible along generations.
whiff1962 2 years ago
OK, "Mental disease."
nolobede 2 years ago
Its just that a major paradigmatic shift has taken place in Western world- much of the Middle-East apparently being the exception. Explanatory modes, and tools and means of arriving at some understanding of ourselves, and the world around us, sometimes falls short with the scientific method. Still, this is no excuse for falling back on atavisms and Dark Age thinking.
whiff1962 2 years ago
The ultimate virus is Anthropocentrism which is fueled by the triplet germs known as:
Religion
Humanism
Species-ism.

I don't see how Scientology abusing its followers is any different than say a religion that says God wants men to have their penis cut up. It's like any other organized religion that has all these rules you have to follow rather than decide for yourself.
SugarMagnolia20 2 years ago
Scientology is an abusive religion because it's a cult. It functions as a cult because it slowly indoctrinates its members by filling their head with propaganda..
As for religion in general, many of the prophecies written in the books have came to pass. This is why I'm religious--Because I know there is a god, I know his prophets speak truth. There is also an ultimate evil, his evil left eye is on the back of every us $1 bill...

....the eye of horus? the egyptian god of reason?
NLM5820 2 years ago
It has degree measurements of 60,60,60
Adahondeayenh 2 years ago
Are you sure it was a gift? I think this gift was given with the knowledge of what we would do with it without the proper knowledge of how to use it. What we have is a beautiful gift, but it was given to us without proper knowledge of how to use it. I liken it to giving a 11 year old a gun and saying "you will figure it out".

Hello? It is a matter of CHOICE and nothing more!
smidgen25 2 years ago
This comment is directed at Porrages.
All religions are scams. Period. Only Atheism (which in itself is not a religion but the absence of) is true to its believers.. Or should I say those that have the sense to believe in science and applied logic.
Now don't get me wrong, I personally get a big kick out of bronze age mythology as much as the next person...:)
epbdl 2 years ago
What's with Europe aggressively attacking the Scientologists? Sure, they're scammers out to manipulate people, but what business or religion isn't? It's favoritism; inequality in rights.
FlyingBurritoMan 2 years ago
This is question is directed at burritoman.
Porrages 2 years ago
Only to you, it's not a scam. Perhaps it's a scam in a sense to control your life under one person's selfish opinion? There's no point in "banning" or heavily regulating one religion because one person deems it "less important" or "dangerous" to the public. That's promotion of inequality and blatant tyranny and favoritism.
FlyingBurritoMan 2 years ago
o shhiiiiiiitttttttt
Apmoponhon 2 years ago
The Catholic Church doesn't "control" any aspect of your life. A person in the Catholic church is free to "commit sin", ignore "sacraments" and do anything else. A member isn't required to pay or give anything to the church, and the church's ultimate goal is salvation and the betterment of mankind. The church of scientology? Their ultimate purpose is to make money and spend it on themselves, that cannot be denied.
Porrages 2 years ago 4
Neither does the Church of Scientology. A person is free to "not pay" their money and such. The Catholic church wants to control who you sleep with, what you eat, who you idolize, etc.
Stop being ignorant and making up excuses to randomly ban/ prosecute for being different from your norms, fascist.
FlyingBurritoMan 2 years ago
A scam is some dishonest that results in personal gain on the part of the scammer. The Catholic church isn't "scamming" because it gains nothing. All it does is sustain itself, its practices and give money to charities. Hubbard started his church to get rich, he's said it before. Don't call me ignorant, because I never said this church should be "banned". I'm correcting you. Scientology can be defined as a scam, and not all religions seek personal gain.
Porrages 2 years ago
It gains more control over the population and maintains the reproduction of their view points. Just because it isn't out to necessarily grab money doesn't mean one isn't out for personal gain. Where did you hear Hubbard say this? From some biased magazine? Or some lunatic celebrity that left it? Anyway, why are you arguing with me then? My point was that so many countries go out of their way to aggressively outlaw it because of one person's opinion of "danger" or of the "true religion".
FlyingBurritoMan 2 years ago
You really are being dishonest about the catholic church. I would say scientology is as fake as the catholic is. Both are man made religions
studyjesus 2 years ago
I'm going to assume that you're part of some protestant group, and therefor are immediately on the defensive when I mention Catholicism. Read my posts, I'm talking about scams, not what religion is right or wrong... what should be banned or not. If you want to talk about the validity of the Catholic church versus protestant churches, this isn't the place
Porrages 2 years ago
You assume wrong . Catholic church is scam as well as scientology

did you know that L.
