  • That's a cool pool!

  • Bandit is so cute! We should go to fiesta together, I went with splash the other day and she seemed bored without him there.

  • @kikopup That would be fun! I have not been there in so long! Bandit has a way of keeping life interesting for everyone (humans & dogs).

  • I have a year old border collie mix and he is a fantastic dog. We hike all the time, a few weeks ago we went on one that was next a stream, at one point the water got pretty deep so we were scaling the rocks next to the water to get around when my pup slipped on the rocks and fell into the water. He couldn't get out on his own and I had to get into the water and lift him out. Now he is scared of any water, any tips on how to get him used to it again? He loved the water before :(

  • @pattymac5 If I were you I would get a small kiddy pool and start from there. With no water, then a little water, then more and more. Eventually go to a safe place that you can get in the water with him and hold him as he paddles. It is hard to say if it will work, I would just have patience and make it as fun as you can for him. I would not force him, but just encourage. GOOD LUCK! I am so sorry that happened. Set backs happen, just hang in there. :)

  • I wonder whether the pool gets a lot of dog hair in the filter? This appears to be an enjoyable experience for both the owner and for the dog. This is ssooo much better than so many other videos here on YT where owners just throw their dog(s) into deep water when the animal has never swam before, or set them adrift on air mattresses that they've never been on before. A lot of THOSE videos were extremely upsetting to me. Those stupid people shouldn't be allowed to have pets! THIS video is lovely!

  • @relxn Thank you so much for your nice comment! I always make sure I set my dogs up for success and to enjoy what they are doing. I bet the filter does get a lot of hair in it. Have a great day!

  • A volunteer from the NEBCR told me that this is why they also call them "Water Collies"!!! LOL! So true, mine is a Water Collie in the summer and a Snow Collie in the winter. She just loves, loves, loves the H2O no matter which shape it comes in!

It is definitely genetic. BC's that don't love water are not the norm!

  • @herdingdrive Yep! I agree, my other BC Twix loves water too, but tomorrow will be his first time in the indoor pool. I will get video footage of his first swim. :)

  • i have a border collie that looks the same and has the same name !!!

  • Super. Quel joli moment de confiance et complicité.

  • Bandit is awesome at swimming! Can't believe that he loves swimming more than his toy! :)

  • Awesome! I have been wishing that I had something like this close by. We normally go to the river to swim, but it has been raining ALOT, so the current is too strong for my little pupper... Now there is nothing but the kiddie pool :P

  • Aww looks like he had so much fun! <3 Lucy doesn't like swimming, for the fact she can't without human help!

  • Yay Bandit, very good! And swimming in water is great therapy both for dogs and humans! Didn't you use a lot of water therapy for Bandit's tibia? I think it was you who mentioned it that you did, or had a video or something.

  • @nicolebodea You have a great memory! Yep, Bandit went to physical therapy after breaking his Tibia. He did the under water treadmill then. :) It really is great for dogs and humans! :) Take care! :))

  • What a super video! I wish that we had something like that here, as Tillie loves to swim.....

  • I love your dogs. We take the dogs to the lake to go swimming and we have a kiddy pool in the backyard so the dogs just lay in there. I've got retrievers though and they just go and go. Tika will play fetch for hours if I would let her.

  • @Maggiechance That is so awesome! I know what you mean, my BCs will play ball at the beach and swim forever if I let them. They love it!

  • @pamelamarxsen Yeah I wish though the lake was closer for we could go more often, but right now Maggie can't really do anything but very little exercise. You are lucky though that you have a place with a safe pool to take your dogs swimming. Were we are the only place is the lake to go swimming and the problem is that there is blue aglae in the water and a dog died this year from drinking the water.

  • what a great idea having a dog pool, I am lucky in that we have a whole beach here set aside for dogs only "The Doggy Beach" and it's Asja's fave place although she will only go as far as she can touch the bottom unless I go in with her!! did you see the pics on FB????

  • Ha ha...that was GREAT! I bet he slept good that night. :-)

  • @nameofthepen You would think, but after his power nap when we got home, he was ready to play/train some more before dinner time. :)

  • yay for swimming dogs! Looks like a great place, what fun!

  • That was great! Did he turn in the other direction too? I bet he was a tired puppy when he got home. Ours are going tomorrow to play and they have dock diving and a pond. I want to see if they have interest in the water. Note to self, don't forget the chicken.

  • Where did you adopt Bandit from?

  • @MsZoraZ The Southern California Border Collie Rescue. :)

  • @pamelamarxsen Thank you so much for your reply! I know I certainly want my next dog to be a rescue, but I have always wanted a Border Collie, so I'm debating whether or not to go to the shelter or a BC rescue.

  • @MsZoraZ Most of the BC rescues get all the BCs out of the shelters and into foster homes until they can be adopted. So, I would go with a BC rescue org, if I were you. :) Good luck! Ether way, you will be saving a life! That is always a great thing!

  • @MsZoraZ-PLEASE-Do as much research as possible on any breed of dog that you plan to get! B.C's are considered one of the smartest (if not THE smartest!) of ALL breeds. BUT! They're EXTREMELY HIGH ENERGY dogs. The breed was developed to herd sheep over rough terrain in all kinds of weather. B.C's need +++physical/mental stimulation ALL THE TIME! If a B.C. isn't exercised A LOT every day it will probably become unmanageable/destructive. IF you can cope with it's needs then GOOD LUCK + ENJOY!!

  • @relxn I have done extensive research on all types of dog breeds, including special training needs, diet, etc. I currently have a beautiful Collie who I got when I was a little girl, she is older now and has many health problems due to being inbred but I am thankful that I have her because she's led me to learn so much about dogs. I am looking for a high energy dog since I am very athletic and would love to enter agility, flyball, and frisbee groups and clubs with my pet.

  • That's awesome, Blossom doesn't like standing water much lol, but doesn't mind baths.

  • Dock dog int he making? :-) Very cool!

  • @melissa2ea Maybe, who knows?? He loves the water! :) We want to get a small swimming pool at our house now. hehe!
