I still keep harping the IDW boards (the holders of TRANSFORMERS & G.I. JOE) about doing a revival oft this. And I'd give my cousin's left nut to see either Peter Jackson or Guillermo Del Toro make a live action version of this.
Wow, that's a true disappointment. What's worse is that I am also a product of the 80's and just simply have never heard of this cartoon. I'm guessing maybe it was a localized cartoon and thus never made it's way to my hometown, cuz this is DEFINITELY something me and my friends back then would have watched obsessively. Again I say...what a true disappointment.
I personally think that obscure stuff tend to have special qualities to them that you can't explain, but you have a really unique experience with them. For example, Drill Dozer and Star Control 2 (my favorite games) have original ideas, but they are presented in such a imaginative way that it makes you speechless since they are that memorable. Most mainstream products lacks this charm and there's nothing really special about them, as they felt like a copy and paste to other existing stuff.
@masterjake132 The same toy company yes. :D The animation studio (Toei Animation) who made this was also responsible for stuff like Transformers, G.I. Joe, the 5 part pilot of the 87 Turtles cartoon, a season of Real Ghostbusters and anime like the Dragonball Trilogy and Saint Seiya. Oh they were also responsible for My Little Pony, Sailor Moon, Muppet Babies (the first few seasons) and Maple Town...:D
@masterjake132 Just blows the mind dosen't it, but that's why Toei were kick ass, they can draw well practically anything for anyone. You're welcome. :D Mind you the majority of studios in Japan would have done the same thing.
Nobody outside the USA gave a shit about the G.I. Joe cartoon. It didn't get much airplay since it was seen as too yankee-doodle for the world audience.
"Decompose" was always my favorite. He just seemed badass and freaky as hell. He could just touch someone and turn them into another giant monster. Crazy!
@hovsec I've seen one or two episodes of this show back when it first aired. But it wasn't until I watched this video when memories came flooding back to me.
@Teriyaki00 i can relate to that man..the protagonists in there has some spears with a frame on the end, and through that frame they can summon different beings and monsters if i remember right
@Teriyaki00 HELL YEAH Visionaries was awesome, Merklin was great Also the guy with the Lion Totem which names eludes me looks alot like a Dragonlance hero named Sturm Brightblade.
god i loved inhumanoids when i was little. Took me 5 years to remember the name but i'll never forget the line "de-com-pose!!" Metlar was such a BIATCH. i need to find this on DVD somewhere.
2:01 Holy SHIT! No wonder I never watched this show as a little girl! That shit woulda scarred me for life! That is actually REALLY really fuckin' freaky for a children's cartoon! I remember a friend of mine had the figures in his room. Yikes. I stuck to the nice stuff: Ninja Turtles, My Little Pony, all that pussy shit compared to this! xD
*sigh* i dont have a good child hood like you. i was born in 1999. i cant remember much though. but i do remember one thing VERY CLEARLY. the ending to DBZ
HOLY SCHEISSE! I've been looking for this almost all my life, since i was a kid, i could never recall what the name was of this cartoon! Thanks James!
i think the boondocks and avatar the last air bender has some balls. hell, even elfen lied has some balls since it shows kids getting killed. especially higurashi
This was made by Hasbro? Makes me wonder why there wasn't a re-hash of THIS series on the Hub. I mean, they re-hashed all the other Hasbro franchises, so why not this one?
That's only partially true that todays television have no balls to make good violent cartoons. you should check out "the misadventures of flapjack" it's a cartoon network one, and i gotta say, shit is twisted.
Some of the cartoons that I enjoyed that is past 2005 CN is : Generator Rex ,The Secret Saturdays , Young Justice and the New Thundercats ! These all have some inspiration from classic adventure and action shows from 80s and 90s
@supermongoose84 Technically less balls DBZ came out in japan by 1989-1994 and when it came to America they tone down the violence killing cursing and death scenes. Less balls but a cooler car.
Kids today are only exposed to drug trip induced shows with moronic characters that yell alot and use alot of internet style humor. It sad to see that cartoons no longer have memorable action scenes, clever story arcs and dynamic characters that leaves you wanting more.
@cron78 unless you watch the Japanese anime they have on audlt swim like bleach. I still think that cartoons these days have become so babyfied. We need more shows like this on tv.
@cron78 So true. It's a different time now. And sad to say, that's not a good thing. With the lack of originality in most shows today, these are sad times we live in.
I really miss the art style the 80s hasbro cartoons used. It has depth and shade, most new animation just looks like brigtly colored construction paper cut to shape and moved around infront of a camera, which is basicly the proccess used in photoshop to make them.
..This is just a reminder of the cartoon worth watching back then that came and went. Dungeons and Dragons, Galaxy Rangers, Mighty Max, Thundar the Barbarian, G-Force, Star Blazers, Transformers, Gi-Joe, Voltron, Mask, Defenders of the Earth, Visionaries, Robotech, yadda yadda yadda.
I basically know this show because it takes place in the same universe as Transformers, GI Joe and Jem. I'm suprised how violent this show was and this was long before shows like Batman, Gargolyes, Ren & Stimpy, and Rocko existed.

Very few good cartoons have come out in my generation like Ed' Ed n Eddy, Invader Zim,Dexters Laboratory but good cartoons are pretty much gone. That's why I mostly watch anime. I kinda feel dead inside knowing that cartoon's from america are ass.
@TheT800infiltrator Ninja Turtles was violent and it aired on the infamous 4-kids channel. You get scenes like Shredder's head getting sliced off and rolling on the ground and this was long before we found out about his alien origins. You get other scenes like Splinter getting stabbed, Splinter saying, "Playing God", Bishop landing on a hook, Baxter's finger falling off, The entire episode of Donny going to the bad future.
@TheT800infiltrator don't forget courage the cowardly dog, it was the edgiest cartoon I could get my hands on as a kid, not to mention it was still pretty damn funny.
@TheT800infiltrator The early 90s wouldn't have been a bad time either. That era had classics like Batman, Xmen. They may not have been gruesome, but they were perfect cartoons that certainly hold up today.
Now we have shit stains of shows, like ALL the 2005-present Cartoon Network original shows.
Whatever happened to shows like Justice League and Spiderman? They just don't have 'em anymore.
The 80s and 90s and the early 00s were THE decades for animated television.
@etiscool1 I know, and what ever happened to the "epic LOL" violence of the 1940's like Tom and Jerry? Everything is that "peace and love, hugs and cuddles" bullcrap.
@TheT800infiltrator Invader Zim isn't actually cancelled, they show reruns of the show in Nicktoons, which I presume is on every channel 100 on all TVs.
@TheT800infiltrator I shed a tear for you, bro. I was born in '82. 80s were great for kids. Shitload of nice cartoons to choose from, and the toys AND cereals to match them. Board games were still cool, going outside was still safe and fun, AND gaming was new and fresh. An overall wholesome situation. Shit died around 96/97, I'd say. Even Nickelodeon stopped makin' worthwhile shit then. I'm sad for kids born in 2000+ even more so.
@hemidas agreed it really was; Dragonball series,Thundercats, Robotech, Voltron series, Gundam series, Transformers, Inhumanoids, and Ronin Warriors (early 90's)... they are even watering down Dragonball Z now.
@aidwin85 Naruto is not gone yet. They're still making episodes. You can watch the uncut versions if you buy the DVD or go on Viz Anime.com if you don't mind subtitles.
I remember this show, I came on early and was gone with in a few weeks but it was as James said, nasty and over-the-top! Today, it's all about hugs and cuddles and fuckin' Justin Bieber....welcome to Planet Wuss! This old show needs to make a comeback and reverse the sissification of American kids.
maybe because no tv studio would ever support a walking law-suit. It may be good but even you said that it gave you nightmares, so a lot of parents would'nt be very happy. Don't get me wrong it looks good but its not much of a question as to why it wasn't brought back. :/
Damnit James you made me remember this show mown want to watch it I HOPE YOUR HAPPY WITH YOUR SELF. But all jokes aside I do remember this show and it was the shit I lived it granted liked transformers but this show was awesome
Thanks for bringing back the memories James. I was born in 78. So I vaguely remember this cartoon. My favorite character was the blue guy with chainsaws/hooks on both arms. I aslo thing the guy in the purple outfit was bald; and he would break the t.v. at the end of every episode.
I remember catching this show every Sunday on KCOP LA. It replaced Robotix, which was one of my favorite cartoons, so I was peeved at first, yet what else was on? This was the 80s.
Anyway, it was extremely sick. The thing that gave me the most nightmares was Decomposer turning humans into mutants. It's hard to understand now why that was so scary to me then, yet it terrified my 8 year old mind. Then, just as I got into it, it was replaced with Jem. What?!
This is sad that we are now in the dark ages of Saturday morning cartoons beginning at 2005 where Nicklelodeon (Including SpongeBob) went to airing lame original cartoons and boring and sitcoms then Cartoon Network started making lame comedy cartoons then dropped the balls with god-awful crude-jokes shows (MAD TV) and Horrible live-action shows, then disney channel music sitcoms ruined the good of of Walt Disney. The only thing we got left is anime, but we want the glory days of cartoons back!
I remember this show too. I had metlar as an action figure. The red horn on his head absorbed light to make his two front red teeth 'glow'. It was pretty awesome. You should also check out another show that I grew up with with Chris Latta in it, it's called Visionaries. This series had pretty cool holographics on their toys.
tarzan was violent. espically when clayton gets hanged on the vines. it even shows his corpse when the thunderstruck

@depletable I was born in 1997 but I saw the shows that came before and they were awesome ! Nowadays 80/100 of kids and youth shows are shit !
Marjoh1963 2 months ago
@depletable And anime was new then, don't forget that. Even Japanese consider 80s as a golden age of anime.
hemidas 1 month ago
@hemidas agreed it really was; Dragonball series,Thundercats, Robotech, Voltron series, Gundam series, Transformers, Inhumanoids, and Ronin Warriors (early 90's)... they are even watering down Dragonball Z now.

aidwin85 1 month ago

What?!
Thanks for the memories AVGN!

Decent show but I always thought it was rather dark for 80s kids cartoons.

Dude, I'd forgotten about this show! Wasn't this one of those shows that started off as a "piece" of a larger show? With Bigfoot and Jem?
truckerspike 2 months ago

This series had pretty cool holographics on their toys.
moltingflesh 2 months ago
I think this deserves to be on the Hub, since they also show older shows and the new stuff they made for that channel.

The Decompose scene around 1:50,where he mutates they guy into a monster, is oddly fascinating. I can't quite explain it.
