in the new crysis they reached 10million objects without any lag. its a fully supported vista game. intel,nvidia,microsoft,ea and crytek have created the game best possible ever.
Considering that in total, it doesn't have to deal with much in the way of animation, detailed polycount, textures and lighting, it's actually not that hard to see that it could feasably run on a standard machine. All the power is going to Ai pathfinding and very limited polygon count with some small physics (the bouncing boxes).

they are releasing a single player demo+ crytech sandbox2 demo of crysis the 25th october or a few days after.

on 1, but I think the processor has 2-4 cores.
