Listening to more & more music (and as many different types) 'helps' with that & also learning your instrument. You don't have to have played onstage to big crowds to recognise faults in one's playing. When people don't know exactly how their musicians play something, it is 'magical' to you. As you get better, you lose that innocence & can see exactly what is happening.
