@Mnemotron2010 permanganate is a super powerful oxidizer, not sutable for fireworks as flash made from it will combusted if it gets just a little bit wet. save the permanganate for the chemistry lab not worth the extra bang.
i make magnalium flash all the time i use it for most things its never gone off while im mixing it . i have done before but dont try this pushed it down till it wont compress any more but i dare not do that again its safe if you treat it right
Nice man. One thing: you normally specify the ID of the mortar tube rather than the shells ID. IE if its a 3" mortar tube, you call it a 3" shell even if its 2,8" :)
great. well i just got magnesuim so its great news. bout to make some. usually i make black powder shells. my salutes are nitrate based. but i think this is a bit more powerful
The only data I have on it is that it is supposedly around 600mesh.. none the less.. superfine.. and it is 70 mag and 30 Al... 70/30 alloy as opposed to the 50/50 common..
i was expecting junk cuz it was so small. but it was actually great! nice work. did you make it? im gonna make a 1 3/4" salute shell with reports 2morrow. (ball shell) hopefully it is as good as that
Thanks for the comment.. Generally with small shells you want fastest powder.. this was under filled don't know how much but 1/4 to 1/3 of the volume seems about right from what I remember (10g) was the weight.. could have used 20 grams easily or more but why waist the money with a satisfiable report as is.. I generally time these 5 sec. but this one come out as 3 sec. I think the effect is better with higher altitude.. just a preference.. have fun. good luck.. be safe..
The specs are on the shell at beginning of vid.. yes it was KClO4 and Magnalium in a 50/50 ratio.. the magnalium is super fine stuff.. also it was some MgAl I got that is 70/30 Mg/Al.. I'm fine with 50/50 ratio of the mix.. but considering it is 70% Magnesium I could have used the more known 40/60 apprx.. since the 30% Al is there
Hi,I have tried 70/30 KCLO4-MgAl but it is very slow!!!.But if I use potassium permanganate it is super fast. Can you tell me why?

That was an awesome report for such a small shell. Did you make and spike the casing yourself?

mag as in magnesium or magnalium?

Mg/Al .. 70 percent magnesium ... 30 percent aluminum ... a 70/30 alloy as opposed to the common 50/50..

how do you make them
