Hostelworld charge you 10% of your booking (it is NOT a deposit!) plus a booking fee for the simple process of forwarding you the hostels email contact and creating a ''booking'' which is unacknowledged by the hostel until you contact them. Find hostels online and email them DIRECTLY. Save money, credit card fees and give hostels the 10% that belongs to them! PS: Love all the ''honest'' comments below...All Irish perhaps?

@freeladingloser. HostelWorld charges the hostel 10% commission for bringing them the customer - i.e. you as a customer pay the same price as if you go direct. In return, you get live bed availability in a multitude of hostels in a destination, provide you the reviews, create a live booking that any proper hostel will honor without the need to acknowledge anything - peace of mind. Not too bad?

And the 10% ??? How about using not Kayak or Google? They charge advertisers money too :-)

I personally love the fact that you can make hostel reservations on the go using your mobile!! That's why I like that part of the video, because sometimes, we as backpackers or travelers in general, don't have the time to sit down at a computer and book online. Many of us don't even carry a computer. I like to know that i can make a reservation in a easy and practical way. My favorite part ---> 0:10

My best part is that focus is always on the destinations, so Hostelworld is just dropped in for short bits. Even so, Hostelworld somehow comes clearly to mind after seeing the add.
