@WhiteKestrell No. STATEMENT runs 1450hp Lycoming T53-L13 turbines from Turbine Marine in Florida. Miss GEICO is a raceboat running 1800hp Lycoming T53-L703 Turbines from Whispering Turbines in Montana.

Not sure what the MSRP is for that boat but it's well over $1M.

@WhiteKestrell Offshore racing has a turbine class but last year only one boat ran in it. Hopefully this next racing season(starts in April I believe) we'll see more turbine raceboats on the water.

There is a 56' boat called Phenomenon that runs four 3000hp turbines. Their goal is to break 250mph.The boat was to have made its runs last year but it had some issues and was not able to run. Hopefully this year will see some activity from the Phenomenon team. Would be awesome to see!

@WhiteKestrell Yes the stock T55 makes 2750hp but they may have been turned up to 3000 for this project. Yes it was an amazing story, and a tragic one as well. We all mourned Big Al's passing he was larger than life and a very nice person as well. I met him at AJ's bar and restaurant in Destin, Fl. a year before he died. I didn't get the chance to sit down and talk with him though. I wish now I had because I never saw him again.

RIP Al Copeland you were one of a kind. :(

@WhiteKestrell As to a ride in one, you would probly have to know someone who has one. But that doesn't always work. I know the GEICO team well and I have not been offered a ride yet. :( But let me tell you, all the turbine cats run 150+. At that speed I would want a full canopy boat with harnesses and oxygen. If you get thrown out of an open cockpit boat at that speed you will die.

Look for GEICO, AquaMania and JBS Racing to run in Turbine class this year and maybe one other.

The only company I know of, who actually build FAA approved marine turbines is Whispering Turbines out of Montana, who also build the turbines for Miss Geico. Unlike the John Arruda turbines that are not up to spec and have had major issues. Just ask former Team JBS. Man, they got screwed by J. Arruda.

Many high performance marine turbine engines have a freshwater system that can be used while underway to rinse the internals for salt. These motors do not have the same service intervals as when used in helicopters ect. simply because they run 80-100% more of the time. The marinized T53 L-xxx here run between 1450 and 1850 hp, depending on setup and use and can do so for some hundreds hours, but not thousands.

@donzifanatic Well you could always put 1500hp piston engines in it but overhaul time is 50hrs or less. A properly built turbine engine will run thousands of hours before overhaul. All you have to do is change the oil once or twice a year. A 1500hp piston engine requires high dollar race gas, while the turbine will run on diesel and peanut oil.

But don't worry...your Donzi hull will not run fast enough to require turbines lol. :D

@sakoshooter48 Yes I know salt is bad for turbines. I also know there are many turbine boats running successfully in salt water; Warbird, GEICO, AquaMania, JBSRacing, Aquadoll and several 50' V bottoms in Scandinavia.

Turbine Marine in Ft. Lauderdale and Nor-Tech boats in Ft. Myers have collaborated on many turbine projects like Warbird and Aquadoll. There are three videos of Aquadoll here and I think you will love that boat when you see it. Type Aquadoll in the search box.

I got a ride in one of the first turbine boats ever built by Howard Arneson. He had two Russian helicopter engines in his boat. This was back in the late 80's early 90's. Had a hell of a time on San Francisco bay. Think we had her up to well over 130 mph...........and the noise of the drives, oh man!
