  • He is a very repetitive bass player though

  • Is it just me or does Mark look like he Seriously works out in the picture for number 1

  • Noooo we weren't expecting Carousel werent we?

  • i like the bass line in mutt during the chorus better than the intro :)

  • Oh man! I love root notes, octaves, and perfect fifths. Boy, what a great bass player.

  • @InuSama95 it works.

  • I think "story of a lonely guy" is good too

  • Your opionion, but no feeling this and heaps of self titled on there ? clearly your a fuckin idiot.

  • Joise????

  • I know it´s your opinion. but.. where is Feeling this?

  • this should be called the easiest heard bass lines...definitely not the best

  • who made you the judge of the top 10 bass lines?! lol

  • I agree with Grim, Josie should definitely be on this list.

  • Nice choice :)

  • why isn't the bass solo of in there voyeur? do you even listen to blink182?

  • @monoyonya Do you even read video descriptions?

  • @monoyonya dumbass

  • hey fuck you randy1822001 your a faggot

  • hey what about adams song

  • @MegaSum182 Adams Song isn't really that special for bass. The intro is guitar.

  • How The Hell Could You Forget JOSIE!!!??? Have you ever tried playing it, damm it's much harder than Carousel.

  • @34bostonceltic ok im with you on The Ox and Bootsy Collins but i think that Burton was very overrated, i know youll hate me for saying that but while he had skill, his style was awful. he seemed more interested in making a bass sound like an electric guitar than a bass and i just dont see the point in that, thats why i prefer guys like Collins, Entwistle, Flea and so on because they actually play bass.

  • @34bostonceltic Nice attitude there, I really see the rebelious side. blink-182 is obviously real, a dur. I'm not a bundle of sticks nor am I a homosexual. Lastely I'm not emo. A bad attitude doesn't make you punk now kindly vacate my internet.

  • @34bostonceltic then move on, these guys have been around a long time. If it's not for you then don't look it up. Long live blink-182

  • i love blink182 because of its simplicity. All new bands have so many instruments that they drown each other out. And i love bass, it sounds good when you can hear bass in songs.

  • I don't know I think Mutt should of been number #1

  • @34bostonceltic i love John Entwistle and the who but i love Mark too, Blink have some great bass lines even if they are nowhere near as good as The Who's. whos ignoring John anyway? hes far more popular than Mark amongst bassists

  • There would be 1 better bass riff in neighborhoods but the original riffs are better

  • There's even better ones on Neighborhoods

  • stockholm syndrome is awesome

  • Anthem? WHERE IS ANTHEM!?

  • JOSIE... c'mon man!

  • mutt should be no.2

  • Thumbs up if you used the snowflake thing during Carousel.

  • Love Mark Hoppus!

  • you missed on, josie

  • you missed story of a lonely guy... i know its a matter of taste, but seriousley...

  • Mutt shuld be number 3

  • Mark is the best blink182 4ever

  • always is just the chord progression 1-5-6-4...

    seriously...

    bad choice.

  • @BboyStepsReborn the intro to always is what hes talking about

  • You forgot the bass solo thing in Don't leave me

  • You forgot the bass solo thing in Don't leave me

  • Josie and shut up shuld be there somwhere

  • just because you can hear the bass dosnt mean its good. songs 2 and 1 were actually creative but the rest were just simply bass lines with more trebel than what people are used to. go look at Johny Christ from A7X his bass lines are actually good but you can never hear them for some reason. im not saying one guy is better than the other im just stating the obvious

  • @yomammaonastick thats the problem, Johny's basslines are always drowned by Syn's guitar, but in Blink the bass is very melodic and makes the song

  • @yomammaonastick It has nothing to do with them being heard or creative, it's called the top 10 Mark Hoppus bass lines, not Johnny christ

  • I seriously love the bass line in Anthem Part 2. It's simple, but it fits the message perfectly

  • where the hell is "wrecked him" ?

  • Easy target actually has a hard/good bass line

  • i must say, anthem part 2 should be totally out of this list, same with online songs and easy target. They're all great songs, but not creative riffs.Mark has quite a few better lines!

  • @blinkMATIC dude but like read the descriptions before you comment....obviously these are Daring36's favorite bass lines lol dude sometimes you gotta read lol come on we gotta put that common sense up to use

  • On "T.V.", I didn't know that was a bass line, because you can play it on guitar. :/

  • I knew Man Overboard and Carousel would be the top 2 :D Great video man

  • This all songs is fucking easy, i learn Whats my age again in bass with first 2 minutes.

  • @asior34 thats weird because the song is over 3 mins long and yes it is a basic riff what off it still sounds good to me

  • @asior34 well its only got 3 different parts to it

  • Mark is fucking amazing PERSON, bassist only good. But i love him, i love Blink 182 and this guy inspired me. Thank you Mark!

  • love Mark Hoppus and all he aint the greatest...but i would say Mike Dirnt is like 10x better

  • @xSpartanAirsoftx not 10x better. They are both PRETTY average. But mike might be a lil better, still, mark is legend.

  • @IGotAPagina mark is not even close to average he just follows the guitar mike dirnt before he got carpel tunnel was a tank he actually had fills and scales incorporated into the music...hell even a common song like when i come around has a kick ass bass line

  • @xSpartanAirsoftx Yeah but what about Wendy Clear, Untitled, and Voyeur? He had kickass basslines, he follows the guitar, yeah but he made like 60% of the dude ranch songs. And he writes most of the guitar riffs. Besides I am pretty sure mark doesnt read music, he taught himself with no help, not sure if mike did it or not but i know he can read music.

  • @IGotAPagina true Mark does right lyrics but billie joe is definitely a better song writer than both of them..just read the lyrics..and yah Mark had a few good songs but to name a few from Mike..When I come Around, Longview, No One Knows, Welcome To Paradise, She, Sassafras Roots, Stuck With Me, Castaway, Stuart and The Avenue, 86, Armatage Shanks...you get the point...the list is much longer than Marks and Mike can right some damn good lyrics too...give J.A.R. a good listen he made the lyrics

  • @xSpartanAirsoftx Yeah believe me im a huge fan of green day. :) But, man give mark some credit, the sound of blink is amazing, Green day isn't the same as blink Blink isnt the same as greenday. Mark has also helped alot of other musicians with music, and has written guitar/bass lines for alot of people that he plays. :D

  • @xSpartanAirsoftx Hey i didnt know he got carpal tunnel :( How do you know?

  • @Leojk87 well he got surgery so he's all good now and I'm addicted to old green day stuff so i read a shit load about them and listen to 21st century breakdown theres like no fills because he wanted to slow down he can still make fills its just the carpel tunnel affected him. he said in his next album hes gonna make more fills though

  • @xSpartanAirsoftx Thanks dude, im a big fan of Mike Dirnt bass lines (especially Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod..) I dont like 21 CB very much...I hope he can full recover and make more fills on the next GD record.

As for Mar Hoppus his ilnes are very simple, some of them are really fun to play Id compare him to Karl Alvarez.

  • I so totaly agree with you carousel is his best part its just awesome!

  • nice vid

  • The only thing I don't like about the bass is it gets drowned out when other people start playing.

  • Comment removed

  • @redsox1188 Well I can hear the solos but when Travis and Tom come in it's kinda drowned out.

  • Like we didn't know #1 was Carousel.

  • @maydecember513 bahahahahahahaha, yeah, it's kinda self-explanantory.

  • "Always" has a catchy bassline, but it's really easy and I learned how to play it a few days after I got my bass, and I was 13.

  • What's this hype about this guy?....Where's the talent???

Fender has proved that any ole' Sam Ash bass room junkie on any given saturday playing BORINGGGGGGGGGG pick bass lines can get a signature model bass. The torch has been dropped....not passed to THAT clown, Hoppus, holding a bass.

  • why stockholm syndrome is in ther ill never know

  • I think 'Feeling This' should definitely be in the top 10. For some reason I always get chills when I hear the bassline in that song. :D

  • Well let's be honest Carousel was gonna be first. It's the best bassline ever.

  • People who says mark suck at bass...come on this is punk! you`re not supossed to be good but original and inspirational Dee Dee Ramone is the perfect example of a simple lines bassist who kick ass!!

  • 1. Carousel 2. Josie 3 .Snake Charmer 4. Peggy Sue 5. Voyeur 6. T.V 7. Man Overboard 8. Stockholm Syndrome 9. Cacophony 10. Easy Target

  • @Leojk87 I think man overboard should be higher, but yeah, this is pretty much exactly how i feel about it.

  • @lovelike182rockets What? Man Overboard was number 2, you thought it should be number 1? Because Carousel is far better

  • Mutt should have been top 3

  • His playing in Buddha was soo incredible!! Instant classic!

  • And lifes so boring?

  • zulistinson... its called jealousy and useless hating.

  • i dont get how such a simple line as in online songs can be number 3...

  • what about cacophony???

  • saw carousel from a mile away as being number 1

  • wheres ben wah balls? romeo and rebecca? anthem? why is stockholm sydrome in here..

  • Comment removed

  • Mark Hoppus is THE reason I play bass. "Here's" Your Letter", "Not Now", "Online Songs", "Peggy Sue" and "Carousel" are my top 5 favorite of his bass riffs. Good list, though.

  • ok, 1 question....WHY ISNT MARIBORO MAN ON HERE!!!!!

  • It's a shame how people hate on bassists that use picks, it gives a different and unique sound, that, for this style of music, is simply orgasmic. Mark is the only bass player to inspire me to want to even consider playing bass. He's a great person that is caring for his fans, and if you don't like him, why search him or blink on youtube? Plus, he's famous, and all u haters aren't so STFU.

  • whoa whoa whoa everyone knows the most talented bass player ever is pete wentz!

  • @Philbert395 les claypool is cliff burton and flea and paul mccartney are the best but mark is my favorite bassist and is still good

  • @theJimJessup i know i was joking pete wentz is a very awful bass player claypool popped my ear cherry

  • @Philbert395 haha he ant that bad he ant the best n i know les claypool is a sweet

  • @Philbert395 GTFO

    /ireallyhopeyou'rebeingsarcastic

  • i new carousel would be No. 1

  • mike dirnt isnt punk besides you want the best listen to the ramones and gg allen bass lines

  • FAT MIKE from NOFX is the best punk bassist ever... GREEN DAY IS POP PUNK LIKE BLINK 182...

  • everyone mike dirnt isnt that great mark and him are the same now flea i still somtimes have trouble with case closed and mike dirnt also uses a pick it dont matter depends on sound and style

  • ive been playing bass for a while and i think mark is a great player considering he has to sing 90% of the songs anyway

  • @Xxrickibee94xX ya thats yy there easy i sing n play too i like mark not just because his lines but cuz hes a nice guys

  • @theJimJessup i agree with you but on the green day thing , listen to dookie and insomniac and youll get some of the greatest bass riffs in punk rock history

  • @Xxrickibee94xX honestly ik em all but then again ive beenn playing for awhile but i respectfully disageree the ramones hav the best bass lines beside flea haha

  • @theJimJessup nah , ive seen them and theyre good but id have to say that mike dirnt is the best punk bass player and flea is in a jazz fusion band haha so its kinda not the same

  • alrite ive been playin bass for a while n i think mike dirnt ansd mark hoppus are the same mmarks are way more fun to play and are a bit more challenging fleas i will still say are kinda tricky

  • @theJimJessup what about the earlier green day stuff , thats nothing like anything mark hoppus has done lol

  • @Xxrickibee94xX not really dude its all easy if u ask me flea is harder dude n i usually only listen to greendays older stuff greenday suks now

  • people should fuck off saying about picking make you shit. Fucking hell it depends on the style of the song what you use. I'm a bassist, I finger pick and use a pick. Both are great both I use varying on what song I play. If you think using a pick makes someone a shit bassist, then you know nothing and should fuck off and stop being a twat.

  • @LOZLinkWolf ya seriously ive been playin bass since 4th grade n my guitar/bass teacher said it all depends on style and SOUND YOUR GOING FOR i switch off

  • @theJimJessup exactly. See us bassist know what's going on unlike people who haven't got a fucking clue but are just causing an arguement.

  • @zulistinson So... you're saying since he uses a different technique to play bass, he's a bad bass player? You sir, are a moron.

  • @Daring36

actually I was saying that I hate to read all those stupid comments here on youtube like "Mark is the best bass player ever"...I mean, come on!!

  • @Daring36 honestly, playing with a pick is very simple but he is still a good musician

  • @zulistinson it sounds better with a pick.

  • @zulistinson there are very few punk bassists that use fingers because you need more attack and speed.

The two i can think of are from the descendents and rancid

And mark has a melodic bass player find a better one for melody just try

  • @zulistinson You comment makes so little sense it hurts my brain.

  • @zulistinson we use the pick because i think most of us believe the sound quality is much better for this genre of music...stupid fuck.

  • @Shr3dtheGnar96

uhm, ok. But do you really think that Mark Hoppus is the best bass player ever? I mean, even Flea from RHCP is a better bass player than Mark...

  • @zulistinson in an esscense. Does flea play punk? No. My point is thaat they each have their strong suites. So dont go on a video and search a band your just gonna hate and troll about mkay?

  • @zulistinson Is it wrong he plays a pick? A good bassist uses whatever he wants, pick or fingers

  • @MrPatatzonder

no, sometimes the sound of the pick is even better...

it's just that I hate to read all those comments like "mark is the best bassist ever"...C'MON.

  • @zulistinson You try playing these songs with your fingers...

  • Comment removed

  • @zulistinson least we know who the one thumbs down is...

  • @zulistinson yes, fuck, he uses.coz sometimes his bass's volume should be high, and this needs using a pick, and also he sometimes plays more than two strings.

  • @zulistinson How come hes loved and you arent?

  • mark's bass solos the best in the world! we love u mark hoppus!!!!♥

  • heres your letter is such an under rated song

  • i love tv

  • what about Peggy Sue live?

  • honorable bassline mention feeling this?? a bassline with 2 frets and an open string in it?? for fucks sake......

  • I knew those would be the top two

  • funny his best song is the very first blink song they wrote

  • this list is good. but cacophony and peggy sue should deffinetly be on there.

  • @BodaciousWickerman Even despite that, I still rate Dirnt a better all round bass player than Hoppus.

  • i love this guy..

  • mark hoppus isn't the most talented bassist, but it's a fact, he inspired a generation. hundreds of thousands of teenagers started to play bass or guitar or drums because of the blink guys. you can't argue that they're the most influental band for 13-17-year-olds. it doesn't matter how mark can play the bass. he can "sell" a lifestyle connected to an instrument. that's why blink-182 will be remembered, when other bands in the same gende are forgotten. they've made their history.

  • @wwwblink182hu Fucking really well said mate! I might not listen to Blink everyday anymore but I will never forget why I picked up the guitar for the first time.

  • @wwwblink182hu Couldnt agree more, however the age group expands far beyond 13-17 yr olds. i first heard blink when i was 6 way back in 1994, im 23 now and still a blink nutjob. love the way you wrote your comment.

  • @wwwblink182hu best words ever been spoken !!

  • @wwwblink182hu man you know what's up.

  • @wwwblink182hu shit this was such a good thought :D agreed to it !!!

  • carousel roxx :D

  • @wwwblink182hu but this is only because the teenagers think that to play bass is easy, and it is if you play blink's bass lines, but if you don't try with Flea's lines or Mike Dirnt's lines you will not progress in your instrumet.

i want to say that, to start in the bass, blink is good, but if you stay in that point... you will never be a good musician

  • @wwwblink182hu Yes! thankyou for sayin that cuz thats exactly right. i've never read a comment more true than that before. im tired of ppl ripping on mark saying that he's untalented n other shit like that, he plays his songs right and he's great on stage. He's not on the Top Ten Bassist list or whatever the fuck but who cares, i enjoy his songs more than any other artist out there, and he definitely did influence me to start playing bass and get in a band with my friends. Mark's fuckin great.

  • @wwwblink182hu well said

  • @wwwblink182hu lol mark! :))

  • @wwwblink182hu I agree that he isn't anything like flea for instance. But he's bass lines are still extremly catchy and in a day where bass levels are often so low there impossible to be here in songs nowadays they really push blink songs forward!

  • @wwwblink182hu whos this182 you speak of

  • @wwwblink182hu yeah man!

  • @wwwblink182hu he's the reason i'm buying a bass.

  • @wwwblink182hu lets face it he is the best in the world just like travis is best drummer and tom is best guiterist (;

  • Lol mutt is easy as shit i think my grandma could make that up

  • I feel 21 days should be in there somewhere

  • Medicore. I wouldn't list Mark Hoppus as one of my inspirational bassists, but he's funny dude.

  • None of them beat longview by mike dirnt

  • @davidjohnston101 Carousel is the only one I which does imo.

  • carousel, tv, peggy sue, mutt, my pet sally, reebok commercial, anthem pt. 1, voyeur, apple shampoo,

  • cambia de cd amigo!

  • story of a lonely guy haves a great bass intro playing along with the guitar too

  • @bassplayinggoalie Mark uses a Fender Bass VI for some live performances of "I Miss You" check out blink's performance at pepsi smash. one of their best live performances of that song, and ive seen them several times live, before the hiatus and after the reunion.

  • carousel is definately the bestest

  • Mutt & Man Overboard are definitely my fav's!

When I started playing I was so keen to emulate Mark's 'sound'. From what I can figure Mutt, Man Overboard, Don't Leave Me, Aliens Exist, and all bass pre-Enema are recorded on a MusicMan Stingray. All tracks since then feature either a stock Fender P Bass (Enema) or his subsequent signature model P Bass. There's a Fender Bass VI somewhere on the smiley album but I think it's Tom's scary sounding bits on Obvious

  • amazing video.

  • I loved the basslines! oh, and I loved the pictures
