Later with the onset of the LP400S model of 1978 the car got these vulgar wheel arches and often that absurd wing, which according to owners added nothing but drag and hardly any downforce which would have been of use in the corners.
The original LP400 Countach was made 1974-1977 and they are very sought after today since they are rare and hard to come by.
@vjrei I think vj means the first exotic that was kinda famous.(.IE Cannonball run ) My first exotic remembrance is of the early 70's Jaguar XKE..and the short lived De Tomasa Panteras..also in that same time period ..there was the James Bond Aston Martin...the Delorean ..And even some of the Lotuses...Don't get me wrong I absolutely luv the Lambos..especially the Countach 5000...I mean ..scissor doors..a wing and 500 plus HP...who wouldn't?? LOLL
The Countach 5000S had 375hp, which still was more than any other supercar in 1982. The 5000QV model released in 1985 had 455hp in the European version. The American version needed cathalytic converters and only had 420hp. No 500hp plus. As a matter of fact the first Diablo had 492hp too.
Most car historians believe the Lamborghini Miura was the first supercar, due to its midengine layout and racing derived design and engineering.

I agree the Miura and Ferraris are great cars but the Countach was on another level - Simply stunning, especially the LP400.
