  • this is one of my favourite songs, learned from my father's record collection when i was 6 years old and this version is wonderful - i like it better than the christy moore!

  • a beautiful song and well sung too, think you put your heart and soul inta it,well done for the share, god bless

  • Good job. you have captured the feeling well. I like your guitar work .

  • just got out off hospital mick , sorry i dident get back too you , ive had problems, dont have alot off time left , great stuff as usual mick , rip pat , your musick outstanding , as uasul , johnny roche. doolin.

  • Great job, really good version - our accent and tone really adds to it

I guess you know it was originally written by Hughie MacDonald when he was in Redgum

    Nice t-shirt as well :-)

  • Excellent job, The lyrics are reminiscent of so many Irish songs ! I hope your son is keeping well in Oz. Great Country

  • Mick, thank you. I'm an aussie with an Irish dad who sing this very song, and you do it well. If I may be so bold, I prefer the redgum lyrics, which use "burning light of day" and finish the last verse with "...fences roll forever, and I won't be back when the droving's done" and repeat the modified line "no I won't be back when" in the last chorus - it adds to the melancholy of the song.

  • Wonderful version of this song. I played the same for my australien YT friend "SirriuslyEZ"

    Please have alook

    Greetings from Germany

    Werner

  • this song reminds me of my old days in our country home here in the Philippines. I was a teenager then when i used to herd cows and carabaos and goats. the problem comes during summer days when the grasses are dying and the wells are drying up. its really hard to feed the cattle. you have to travel in kilometers just to find for water and green grasses. the life is really miserable then so I had to study hard to gain education.

  • Love it.............

  • nice job love the irish and there music

  • Thanks a lot. I like your stuff too

  • Thanks very much Dero, great to hear from you

  • Kelly, my daughter means every bit as much to me as my sons

..stay well and thanks for your comment

  • I accidentally found the Grada version of this song last year after leaving my computer on overnight to rip music from a folk radio station. I don't know what it is about this song that is so gripping - unlike a prior comment - I have no associations with it - but it brings tears to my eyes as well and I'm not exactly an emotional person. I like your version - the song should be retrospective, sad and serene and that's how you do it. Thanks.

  • Thanks very much

  • very good. Now I just need to get a bloody capo

  • thank you

  • Thank you very much for your comment, it means a lot to me. I am so sorry to hear about your brother I feel your pain..I lost my younger brother suddenly and tragically 3 years ago

  • this is very beautiful :D

    thanks for upload ;)

  • Thank you very much

  • Thanks very much

  • hey mick lovely lovely version of this song. CATS for the 30 shortly!

  • Sounds like you had amazing experiences in the outback. I googled Min Min....Wow... I have to see it, I will go back to Queensland for that reason alone

  • Thans very much I really appreciate your kind comments It must have been amazing to be roving in the outback did you ever write about it ?

  • Thank you very much

  • Also, the John Williamson version has "ends with the burning light of day", not the "eery light", which, if you have ever spent any time in the backblocks of Oz, is a much more appropriate, and poetic, discription.

  • Thanks very much for the information. I visited Australia last year to see my son who lives in Sydney. What an amazing place, we had a wonderful time and are looking forward to visiting again

  • Thanks for this, it reminds of my childhood and long trips with my parents through rural Australia in the summer. They had the John Williamson version and used to play it in the car, and so my memories of this song literally merge with the Aussie outback it describes (although specifically it deals with a part of Australia I've never been to).

  • You are welcome, which part of Australia does the song deal with ?

  • Thanks for your reply.

The song deals with the Diamantina which I believe to be part of the SW Queensland outback. My personal experience (and familial memory) connects with Victoria and New South Wales I remember particularly driving through the Victorian mallee listening to this one evening in 1990 after visiting my Great Aunt who was born in 1884 (d.1991) and the song seemed particularly appropriate as it described a world that was alive in the south in her lifetime (the drays, the droving).

  • Beautiful song Mick. My daughter is heading for Australia next year....!!
