Amazing song! I do shows with survivors of this type of abuse worldwide. Anywhere they were allowed children they did this. Thanks for having the courage to do this song. You should come on as a guest on my show. Email me if you hare interested at firetalkprd@aol.com
How many times has the church cashed in on things? I think it is a lovely song about thinking for yourself and not being a sheep and following because that is what your society or culture requires. Becoming a modern man and leaving childish ideas behnd.
He has just dissed dublin by singing this crap hes basically saying he felt better when he left ,dont think he will be too welcome in dublin me thinks lol
talked to an Irish once and feel that Dublin is a must-visit place.... wish that one day i could be there :D and of course, to see Brian perform this hit.
i love this song it has no much truth in it is fantastic in my opinion, imyself am from dublin and i love this song brian is fantastic singer/songwriter
The allegations in this song are completely untrue that Christian Brothers physically beat Brian McFadden. I know the school he went to. By the time McFadden went there there would have been hardly a priest left in the school. Corporal punishment was banned in 1982 - certainly by the mid 1990s when Brian went to school teachers/priests were not hitting pupils. So in other words it didn't happen. McFadden is lying and was looking for a cheap angle to sell his records. That's the truth.
@gaeilge0900 You mean that the few lines mentioning that got beaten changes the entire message of the song? No, because the message is to think for yourself.
@gaeilge0900 Just because that was the "official" policy doesn't mean that was the practise. also this is a song. It doesn't mean that it was completely Brian's experience. As witht he church they have official doctrine but often different realities. Just look at the priest molesting children. They hid it for decades may be even centuries.
@thomaspblair1 Totally agree with you. But I do think he suggests he personally suffered and to be honest I think it was a bit of a cash-in on what was then and still is a sensitive topic in Irish society. I am acutely aware of what the church is responsible for and how some priests behave. They were disgraceful. Men of God... not.
My past is reverse to yours brian, i will break with the past of obscurity and demons and will embrace Thy God with my knees kneeled and bow to Him with the other "fools"
I remember when I heard this on the radio for the first time. I ran back home (heard it in a store) and checked where to buy the single...I've never been that fast to get my hands on a modern song, but this is just so wonderful!
