if outer barrel is closed off and pressures only exit is the same as entrance for air then idthink it works that way

Airsoft silencers serve no purpose. They are there merely to make your weapon look cool. The noise created from an airsoft rifle is generate by the motor and gear box. You do not need to fill up the silencer with cotton or whatever. Several layers of PVC or just one tube will suffice. Simple as that.

Ok let me correct you on that, ANY suppressor tube with "baffles" inside like that can be used on a .22 lr making it a silencer, Batf knows this, if you get unlucky enough to have one catch you with this for any reason you are getting to share a cell with "big bubba" for 10 years my friend, take it from a criminal justice grad working on federal officer levels whose been around guns his who life. anything capable of reducing a firearm 1 db is a suppressor to them. dont make that,just my 2cents.

suppressors aren't state law, they are NFA items registered with ATF on a Federal level, when i was a kid i ordered a beeman air gun silencer and atf came to my house to pick it up. I was lucky, i gave it to them and was free to go, if you knowingly break the law its no laughing matter. i didn't know the law, make sure you buy a solid tube or an approved tube extension for airsoft reviewed by ATF first.

silencers do work on airsoft guns to make it harder to work out where the shots are coming from, as the sound isnt travelling straight towards the target, but round from the gearbox.

@Proflutzn He is not arguing the way sound leaves the gun, but how much. The amount of sound airsoft guns make is only a small fraction of that of a silenced .22, by far the quietest silenced gun. Why would you need a silencer for a airsoft. With the small range of them, the bolt sounds are unavoidable and you will be heard, assuming you can sneak with 20 feet of a person.

@Proflutzn how so? Real steel have silencers that work because the gases that expand out of the barrel, and the silencers reduce that force. Airsoft guns have many seams that sound leaks out. Plus since the motor and gears aren't in a sealed compartment, the sound always travels out unless you actually seal it... not muffle the barrel with fluff.

I made a silencer very VERY similar to this for a fully auto m4 and it works amazingly well. gets rid of a lot of the popping sound from the muzzle. Still got the sound from the electroc motor though, but from 40 yards away all you can really hear is the typical pop sound. 6/5
