While both Sachin & Lara r capable of adjusting to conditions quickly, both have their own +ves & -ves. Sachin curbs his shots if required, but Lara is an instinct player, if a ball deserves to go to the boundary, the situation that his team is in doesnt matter him. Lara is more flamboyant, Sachin is a bit careful. Sachin had the luxury of Ganguly, Dravid, etc, Lara had NOBODY to cover (maybe Gayle that too only the later phase). Given all this, I would rate Lara a tad higher than Sachin.

Lara and Sachin cannot be compared. Lara is an endurance batsman, a test batsman. Sachin is an ODI batsman, his skill is completely different as is his rate of scoring. Lara got 400 from around 580 balls, Sachin got 200 from 147...you can't compare. The challenges of Test and ODI are completely different, Sachin isn't the best at Test, Lara isn't the best at ODI.

Lara was a great batsman no doubt.But because of his attitude the downfall of windies cricket began.Among the current players only Sehwag can score 400 runs. But the problem with our Sehwag is when he is on 399 he tries to hit a sixer and gets out. When whole country is disappointed for not equalling Laras record' he simply laughs and say I am not bothered. I dont know who was Vinoo Mankad and who is Lara? That is Sehwag.

@ftp44 - year was 2003 (If memory serves me right). 03/04 tour in Sth Africa. I remember, he scored 202 in this innings. was a hot summers day on the east coast S.A, this game was at the wanderer's (Jo'burg). Great tour great memories.

Tendulkar the best ever.confirmed all the experts bcoz of his technique.One can show videos of Sachin to youngsters who wanna learn cricket but can u show Lara's, his game is completely different and it definetly is not copy book cricket.Lara's foot work never cud be understood and one cud not make out his technique

@dheer1231 experts like whom? well that is what makes lara special dont u know that. lara doesnt play text book cricket he plays to entertain and had a style that only he was blessed with. plus lara technique against spinners was far better than that of tendulkar and i will explain to you. lara batting 5 men around the bat silly point, silly mid off, silly mid on, short leg and leg slip and none would ever stand a chance of catching him that is how specail the guy was.

@dheer1231 garfield sobers once said it makes no sense to play a beautiful cover drive straight to the cover fielder and get no runs when you could of hit it through mid wicket and get 4 runs... dontn get me wrong where technique and text book are concern tendulkar is definately number one...... lara in my opinion plays more to entertain... how many batsmen in the world would of done what lara did in that over? not many! they would be playing to come back the next day

To my knowledge Sachin has not dominated Murali like Lara did.
Murali himself said that Lara is a very difficult batsmen to bowl to because he sees the ball very early and moves all over the crease very quickly.
Kevin Pietersen has said that Murali is the toughest spinner anyone can face in test cricket.

yeah fair enough. Everyone is entitled to their opinions.
But keep in mind that Lara has clobbered Shane Warne and Murali consistently.
Sachin was good against Warne. Not so much against Murali.
I have seen warne get eaten alive by Lara in several games. But Warne feels no need to say anything about it.
For example see how he gets hit by Lara in the 153 innings Lara made. Its on youtube.
I cant say Lara is better than Sachin. I simply prefer him thats all.

@sonofthedestroyer liking a batsman is different to rating a batsman.Don Bradman is considered the best of the batsmen in the world but seeing him play might get me bored.And Lara as per my opinion does not play text book cricket.He scores well but.Now Sehwag can also do tat.But when u ask an expert for a perfect technique ,textbook cricket or a copy book cricket tat any learning cricketer should follow then it is SACHIN TENDULKAR.I am not his fan I love Yuvraj as such.

@RITEONFIRE They are both legends of the game...but the greatest of all time is clearly Don Bradman. An avg of 99.94 on uncovered wickets will never be beaten. He made 6996 in 52 matches. Thats unbeatable.

Lara and Sachin cannot be compared. Lara is an endurance batsman, a test batsman. Sachin is an ODI batsman, his skill is completely different as is his rate of scoring. Lara got 400 from around 580 balls, Sachin got 200 from 147...you can't compare. The challenges of Test and ODI are completely different, Sachin isn't the best at Test, Lara isn't the best at ODI.

well i dont want to force anything on you. this happened in POS queens park during a england-wi T20 match and it also happened in a test match between australia -wi. also i work here and i know what my staff is all about and how they change sides quickly.... especially when food is there... indians indian dont change side they will definitely throw bottles (happened only once) but dont boo their own team
