I think you cant really overexpose, i tried to prolong the exposure time for some items where i couldnt get through, but if you dont get through in 10 seconds you neither do in 50, you simply need harder xrays/higher voltage. I always use the same time and most important is that the black of the xray film is sufficient black, eg. you cant see a light bulb shining through. I once tried to xray a wall of my house but nothing even with screens :( guess 50kV is too low for that.
And as for developing, i always try to get as much as possible, fresh chemicals and 4 minutes. But i think this all applies only if you dont use screens, you'll see :)
Haha, i visited your site, whats with the microwave oven capacitor, (Nokia?) power supply, and circuit breaker? Seems like those are "must xray" items, i did them all too ... Thanks by the way for linking my site :)
Did you ever try to use xray film without enhancement screens? I highly recommend that, it takes more time to expose but the detail is incredible, tack sharp. Since i tried it i dont want to go back :)
You probably both know my site but i will mention it any way - received21(dot)de
I did not try exposing film without screen indeed and it's good idea to try it :) Anyway, I x-rayed a frog last week and looks like all my x-rays on the films I have done before are overexposed :P Besides matching exposure time its hard to see when to stop developing it so I prefer rather a photographic paper. But i will try x-ray films withous screens as you said and let you know about results :) But it will probably take a few weeks to do it becouse I have no time at the moment.

Hi!
Nice work! I'm experimenting with x-rays too :) Check out X-Rays section on my website: c4r0-hv(dot)prv(dot)pl

Nice work, I see your using an xray intensifer screen too.
My first screen was cut off a CRT.
Are you doing your measurements with ion chamber?
I have a bunch of material on detectors At albert-cordova(dot)com
