@madanmccoon123 Theres plenty of great sitarists out there. If you want to hear some REAL sitar playing try: Shahid Parvez, Ravi + Anoushka Shankar, Imrat Kahn, Vilayat Kahn, Nikhil Banerjee. As a novice sitar player myself, Its obvious to me that this guy has no clue what he's doing
@thomascperez It sounded like you just made lunch suggestions from the menu at Tandoori Curry Hut. Sitar is interesting but difficult to appreciate with an ear acclimated to Western music. I'd plink around on one if I had access. What's the most basic sitar have for an asking price? I'm imagining they can't be cheap.
@ziggyhuys It is a sign of disrespect. Indian custom dictates that when playing any instrument, it is in devotion to the supreme being. Hence, shoes are taken off as a sign of respect.
Ravi is a master sitar player without a doubt. Many who know Indian Classical music say, and I agree, that Nikhil Banerjee and Shahid Parvez are better. I have a lot of music of all three that I enjoy equally.
@ysmzaika I am not saying he is in the level of Ravi Shakar or his students like Shahid Parviz, but he is perhaps in the third tier. At least one can enjoy the tune if he/she listens to it with an open mind. That's all I am saying. I am not claiming that I know much about this type of ethno-music, but I think this guy has studied long enough under the tutelage of a prominent top class teacher. Ravi Shankar himself played with the beetles and at the street corners in San Francisco in 60s and 70s.
You can't buy everything by the money.May be you don't know the indian cultur.Thats why you are saying like this. For you money is most important .Be careful you are handeling with well known sitar player in india. For us recpect of music and instrumet and our teacher is first priorirty, money is after. You people everything is counlt by the money.

You have no writes to disrecpect our indian instruments like this way.How can you say you are the best sitar player in the world. Its beter at first you should learn sitar at least 20 or 30 year then you can say what you are.If sitar is easy to play then everbody can clam they are the best sitar player in this world.
Sure he can do as he pleases with the instrument, but his playing is horrid! This is better than the other videos on this chanel, but thats not saying much... And this man is certainly NOT the 2nd best in the world, or even 200th!
sitars with amps are sound amazing wish this guy had a amp on :) but hes pretty good shame hes busking if i was on the street i would at least play in a resurant or hire out for weddings.
But one thing is for sure this guy will have no money problems in 5 years time if he keeps it up and gets his ass in gear, asia india are going to be the riches countrys on the planet in five years so this guy should use his story to get him a great job.

Of course not! His technique is disgusting, his sitar is a toy, and I doubt he even knows what a raga is... Poor fool, at least he's happy...
thomascperez 6 months ago
@thomascperez But he is playing a raga tune pretty well. I don't know about this type of music, but he seems to be playing it pretty comfortably.
