Ace is my favorite one, he works the best solos on tour, I think it's a joke that that one dude gets to wear his Space Ace gear, it should be trademarked. They are a sorta sell-outs nowadays. I got to see Ace and Peter together for the last time for the Farewell Tour in 2002. Ace was hammered lol
Did Gene and Paul get session musicians on Rock and Roll Over as well? I notice the drums aren't played the same way. The studio album version was tighter and sounded better. PLAYING WISE. I know it's live. but seems Peter is playing it like he just learned it and said fuck it it's fine I'll get away with it..
@Tommyr See well the problem I have with that is You don't really know. Destroyer had session musicians on it and that was (before R&R over). Kiss Alive 2 had session musicians on it as well (after r&r over). What's to stop them from using session musicians on r&r over?
@kevykev38 We know Destroyer had some session people. There is no documentation that Rock & roll over did as far as I know. So, until that info comes out (and the fact that R&R over was basically recorded "live" in Tarrytown) I believe there was no outside musicians. Studio touch ups more than likely but no outside people.
I was a kiss fan back in 1980 when I was like 5 years old. But how can any intelligent grown person listen to this? Gene simmons is a horrible singer, well so are the others. This is like the middle ages of rock n roll before talent was relevant and a stupid gimmick was all you needed. Shame on you kiss fans for having such low standards.
@natazer I'm 54 years old. Listening to Kiss makes me feel young again. They're loud, cheap, vulgar, bombastic, and FUN. Good, simple, happy, LOUD rock and roll. No redeeming social value, but FUN. I heard a Kiss song on the radio while at work today and they helped me make it through to quitting time. They don't make bands like this any more. Back in the 70s, when Kiss ruled, rock n roll meant something. Kiss, the Stones, the Clash, the Sex Pistols, Ramones, Dead Boys, Bowie...wow!
@Artaud1957 Same here, I'm 53 and no one could touch them up until Dynasty, that's when they sold out to fucking disco. They lost me at that point. They turned into every other act at that point. Sad.
@Tommyr But you could also say The Beatles sold out their bubble gum pop to the peace scene, but we don't because they got so much more out of it. KISS may have made ONE major disco song...but after that they release soooo many more awesome classics. Though, I suppose its all down to taste. I never had that much of a problem with disco so. meh.
@natazer the point is to entertain. even if a group lacks talent, they can still entertain. btw im not saying kiss doesnt have talent, im just making a point.
KISS at their best. The best stage set, their makeup was perfedt look. The music fit their image and was good rock n roll music, I dont care what anybody thinks. ACE nailed that solo. They were on top of their game for sure.............
Also, watch a newer version of this song live, over there on the right. They had way more energy in this one. They sound bored now, but not back then, they were kicking sac.
I really can't undestand who says that Peter Criss is not a good drummer, I was a drummer, so I can say that technically he's almost as good as Carr, but Criss plays a lot! AWESOME!
any one that peter criss sux on drums can go fuck them self he was a big part in kiss and always will be he is original and did the most coolest drum solos not fast not technical like hay watch me im the best na solos that have feel and sound good and thats wat rock n roll is all about !!
UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT WAYNE, YOU SHOULD NOT COMMENT...
1. PETER CRISS HAS NEVER PLAYED DRUMS IN PLATFORMS, HE WEARS REGULAR FLAT SHOES WHILE PLAYING DRUMS, HE PUTS ON HIS PLATFORMS FOR BETH AND THE BOWS AND THAT IS IT...
2. ACE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO HAD PROBLEMS WALKING IN THEM, BUT HE MANAGED...
3. PAUL HAS ALWAYS JUMPED UP AND DONE SEMI SPLITS IN HIS BOOTS, AND GENE USE TO JUMP AROUND IN HIS BOOTS ON DESTROYER AND ROCK AND ROLL OVER TOURS...
Some of you might not completely understand this...but Kiss was known for the Live shows and costumes, right? But I think it was those boots that actually held them back some. Seem to really kill the ENERGY of the band. You'll notice watching them live, they really can't move around much with it. And I don't know how Criss plays drums with them,oh well...
@Wayneman117 Peter didn't play with the platforms....EVER..Also this is in the very middle of the set--notice the sweat--/Peter has a fan so he stays relatively cool--Also happens to be 2nd of 2 consecutive shows at the Capital Centre-12/19/77 & 12/20/77...so they're not held back...just part of pacing an hour & a half show.
These were two back-to-back concerts in Maryland on December 19 & 20, 1977. Looked so cool...wish I was there...I could have been! They played in my state in early '77...they could have been my first rock concert...darn, huh?
This is Kiss at their most badass. They're hitting it hard, Gene looks menacing, Ace and Peter are tearing it up despite probably being up to their eyeballs in booze and dope, and Paul's not prancing like a fairy.
Hey, thanks for posting this. I was at this concert -- wide-eyed 12-year old in the third row. Man, the heat from the fire...I believe AC/DC opened for KISS. I had no idea who AC/DC was. These short guys came out and went nuts, Angus Young bobbed his head aggressively throughout the whole set and I just couldn't see how a human being could do this non-stop. What a great event.
@icomearoundnow People don't get my seventies timing either these days. I play things in this style. And people are like, "why are you having that weird beat right there, every time in the chorus? Why don't you play it straight?" and I'm like, "Just following in the footsteps of the greats. You know KISS, Hendrix, Aerosmith and such?" I don't see any band these days that has enjoyed the level of success and long time fame that KISS had these days. Why not use what works? This idea is solid. :)~>
couldn't disagree more about the comment; "they're not having a good time, timing is all over the place'" the guys are having a blast riding the crest of their fame, sound tight, on the money, proving their musicianship was no fluke..the timing isn't off, that's called musicality, a concept that's been sanitized since the '70s
the guys are having a blast, riding the crest of their fame, sounding focused and right on the money. Paul's singing is excellent, Peter sounds tighter than ever, Aces dissonance is on purpose, like Gene's vocal, this is Kiss at their very best, proving that their live sound was no fluke..they could hang with any of the other big boys on the block, and that's saying a lot for the 70s..why the Houston show is on Kissalogy and not this is a total mystery to me.
I am here to redeem myself. I knock Gene simmons all the time for his bass playing, but after watching this closely i know it wasnt about the bass, it was the show and he did have a time with singing and keeping time
I agree with the earlier post that they sound all over the place. Iv noticed that on all the late 70s clips Ive watched on here. You can tell that they're not having fun and that makes all the difference in the world playing in a band.
I like KISS as much as the next guy, but, did they really get so huge with performances like this?! They're all over the place! It's like they're all playing a different song!
@RockonKISS1122 Gene and Paul said in an interview that they think Peter is too old. right now hes like 64, so thats 4 years older than Gene, 6 years older than Paul, and 21 years older than Tommy Thayer.
@Clnt874 I have been a KISS fan since 1974. Love the originals . . . BUT . . . they did replace Peter, twice, for the better. (And not by just a little) For me Carr was best drummer in the world. Singer is now.
no you don't have a point in my opinion, Im 16 and I saw them 2 allready, they are still playing with A LOT of feeling man and graspop 2008 (see my channel for videos) they the field was full of fans. So what I like ace frehley and peter criss a lot but peter singer and tommy thaler kicks ass to. haha and everybody has a farewell tour ? Like black sabbath his reunion...
Still, you gotta agree that the best KISS cover band is this band which Gene and Paul plays, I mean, those times re gone mate, they ll never be able to play like they did if the band s not th one that released the debut KISS album
He was good up until the Dynasty tour. Since then, not worth shit. Anybody who says he a good drummers these days can go fuck themselves, cause he ain't.
I was kissarmy...my brother was a zep head. we argued all the time who was better. of course zeppelin are better musicians... but who's rolling in the money...and still rockin' too? kiss forever!!
This is gotta be my favorite version of this song.

No I think that's just one of his stage moves. He cuts the sound by taking his fingers off the strings

How much extra time does Paul Stanley's ridiculous stage banter add to a KISS concert? Gotta be half an hour, minimum...

this is before kiss turned into a complete joke
Clnt874 2 years ago
why do you think kiss is turned into a joke?
Templer1066 2 years ago
well here are some reasons:
1) they play the songs half as fast as they used to and without any feeling.
2) they are playing to half full arenas across north america and that is a proven fact. (look at the rock the nation tour gross)
3) they have two people in ace and peters makeup
4) they had a farewell tour in 2000 but are still playing?
etc
Clnt874 2 years ago
no you don't have a point in my opinion, Im 16 and I saw them 2 allready, they are still playing with A LOT of feeling man and graspop 2008 (see my channel for videos) they the field was full of fans. So what I like ace frehley and peter criss a lot but peter singer and tommy thaler kicks ass to. haha and everybody has a farewell tour ? Like black sabbath his reunion...
Templer1066 2 years ago
its not peter singer its eric singer young one lol
Clnt874 2 years ago
Still, you gotta agree that the best KISS cover band is this band which Gene and Paul plays, I mean, those times re gone mate, they ll never be able to play like they did if the band s not th one that released the debut KISS album

This isn't a cover band Fabrega0 this is KISS, duh!

The farewell tour was to mark the last time that all 4 of the original members would all appear together on stage as 'KISS' in full make up
