  • were you soloing on the pentatonic scale?

  • nice vid and song man! What software did you use to record audio + video mixed multi tracks? Is your solo playing in the video really recorded "live", or did you mimic guitar playing over already recorded audio track?

  • @mateinegriu

Garageband on mac. Beautiful program for simple home recording. I do this simply as a hobby and that program is just wonderful. Everything is recorded as you see it live. I first recorded the rhythm+Vid. Then made a second vid+recording for solo. I then used imovie to build them together.

  • Great Video, not only a great tone but also great tastefull playing. Not overdone and to many notes. Reminds me of somewhere between Angus and Kossoff and thats a great place to be in my book!!!!

  • What type of M75? 25w - 65w... Pre rola or blackback series?

  • @hrp66

M75 100w. these are the pre rola versions. I think I bought the speakers around 2007.

  • GREAT!!! \,,/

  • I just pissed a little. This is tottaly my cup of tea! I'm so done with tube 8 now. thanks bro.

  • The tone is not really my cup of tea. I prefer when the overdrive comes from the KT66s more than the preamp, personnal taste, but anyway really nice playing ! I enjoy your video a lot !

  • @Ballbreaker73

There isn't really anyway of avoiding this much preamp gain when an amp is turned up. In fact, the notion of "power tube distortion" is rather misguided. There is very little distortion anyone every hears from the power tubes. Rather, they just compress and smooth out the overdrive coming from the preamp. More specifically the Phase inverter. People who claim to "hear" power tube distortion are fooling themselves.

  • @gamedojo Call it as you wish. I've got a Cornell Plexi 7 and when it's on the 7watts mode the tone is just loud & clear with just a little overdrive even when the amp is cranked up. But it's got a EL34, not a KT66. When you've got power tubes as good as KT66 I find it "sad" not let them ring. Do the same video but roll your guitar volume a little and you'll get the tone I'm talking about.

  • roll off***

  • @gamedojo This is so true. Anyways, what component values differ from the original? Because you seem to have gone in the same direction i would if i got to mess around with it.

I'm going to build my own plexi "soon"(I need to read up a little bit more about poweramps and powersupplies before digging in.), and i was thinking about messing with the value of the caps in the cathode to get it a bit tighter sounding, and maybe lowering the resistor value to kick the preamp-tubes a bit harder.

  • @gamedojo Technically, the phase inverter is part of the poweramp, I agree that most of the distortion is coming from the phase inverter but I swap KT66s and 6L6GCs in my JTM45 and there is a quite a lot more distortion when using the KT66s, the 6L6s have much less breakup. Nice amp and playing btw

  • @Ballbreaker73 And how would you make that happen when the only thing you can do on these amps is to turn up the volume?

  • Nice playing, and that tone's awesome

  • now that's tone

  • Awesome groove with the A-G-D chord switch!

  • straight rock. I love it.

  • oh yes, and which EL34 have you installed? thnx :)

  • @matej8666

    Its a JTM45/100 .... so.... KT66 tubes. Shunguang brand

  • @gamedojo Thank you for reply! You are a very goos guitar player!!! keep rocking!!! bye bye from Italy!

  • Hi, which pickup are installed on your guitar?

  • @matej8666

    SD '59s

  • Do you have tabs for the Rythym

  • hey i know this guy! great sound brotha keep on keepin on!

  • great !! thx x sharing, can you please give us your amp settings ?? did you roll off Tone control on guitar ??

  • @dirtyTony666

settings are not going to mean much. But Presence 7, Bass 0, Mids 8, Treble 8, Volume 8/9. Guitar controls are all max.

  • Was in a store in Boston last week trying out a 71' Les Paul Custom. Great tone but the frets were worn down to the wood. Were asking $4000.

  • @Supertzar999

My god, what a rip-off price. These early 70s LPS are not worth that much. I was lucky that mine had a jumbo re-fret when I bought it...

  • My Phantom DX2 arrives in July! :)

  • Settings?

  • Nice sound! I v'e been also using 1971 Les Paul Custom with Marshall.

  • settings?

  • SOunds awesome. Lead or bass tone stack?

  • @Mykkus

The original tone stack. I'd guess it would be considered "bass" tonestack to you, but its the same circuit used back in the bassman tweed era up through about '67.

  • @gamedojo

Gotcha so it's 250PF/56K instead of the later lead.

    Sounds nice!

  • I respect anyone who builds their own instruments and amps.

  • Hi! Very nice natural tone!!!

What is the number of your output transformer? I mean 1202-?

What type of choke have you used in it?

    Thx

  • @kovarikanyar

    1202-84 OT

    and 3H Marstran Choke

  • @gamedojo Great demo man..Very organic sounding..Re:The Faustine-is it the DX2 version?...And did you compare many others before settling on it?-I just got me a PT100 and defo.need an attenuator now :) and it's that V-speaker sim for my late night recording feature that really has it on top of my list otherwise from all reports..Alex's is very close for a third of the price?

  • @CRANKYONE100

My Phantom is a DX1 version. I was on the second round of builds. Kinda wish I waited for the DX2 so I could use it with my super reverb.

Just get the phantom. Yeah, others are cheaper. But with attenuators, the sacrifice in sound will always bother you. I had the Ultimate Attenuator for 3 years. Loved it. But Always felt there was something a little off. But I lived with it. Until I got the Phantom. BIG improvement. Big enough that I no longer shop for attenuators.

  • A beautiful sound and great playing, keep it up!

  • Nice! really killer sound. Exactly what a "marshall" should sound like.

  • Very tastefully done, wish I could get my Ceriatone Super 100 kit finished, wife won't let me spend on the Marstran tranny's. Oh well, enjoy...

  • @Purplexi

    thanks!

I used Marstran tranny's in this build. Highly recommended. I'd say do what you can to get your wife on board. Its very rewarding to complete an amp from scratch.

  • @gamedojo Thanks for the good advice, I'm definitely saving my pennies while reminding my spouse unit of the expanded, club-set list possibilities, from having this amp in my cover band! Still love watching this vid and would love to hear you stomp on a JH1-Fuzz Face with those settings! Let me know if you need to borrow mine!!

  • Nice playing and great tone.
