2nd time. 2nd goddamn time ive cried manly tears. Kanon is the best romance/tragedy anime ever. Clannad was good but only made me tear up once, and it wa during the movie. This series made me tear up at episode 9, cry at 10, almost not want to keep watching because it was so sad, and when i did keep watching, i was teary eyed at the en of each arc. I'm not ashamed to admit it, this made me shed manly tears. This is probably the first time that an anime had brought me to tears. That's the effect of good story telling. If a fictional character can make someone cry, then you know the story has worked.

i thought the anime was complete until ushio died... when nagisa died tomoya changed as a person and grew up and that was a happy ending when he became ushios father and apoligized to his own father.

then ushio died which was completely unnecessary...

i saw the last episode but i thought it was kinda out of place. if i could change clannad after story it would end with ushio NOT dying but nagisa would stay dead (sorry). nagisa's death fits but ushio's death was cruel and out of place.
