@Joostiebob You can have followers that also train your skills.  You can gain 5 skill levels each main level and get your money back by taking the money back from your follower. So when you are leveling up your main level from the speech you can train your skills with your follower.

@YourMomstinky As you level your smithing, you also level your characters main level automatically. Some followers you can pay to train your perk/skill levels. Each level you can only use a follower to train 5 skill levels. So between normal level ups, you should take advantage of that and train another perk/skill for max efficiency. Your basically killing 3 birds with one stone, and you'll end up with a higher overall level because of it.
