"Entitlements" how is Social Security and Medicare just that? If you look at your paycheck you pay into those each paycheck so it's not and entitlement it's money we pay from the first day we work until retirement! It's our MONEY not a entitlement.

@RImusclebear Don't worry about the "Tea-baggers" getting rid of social security and medicare, those two white elephants will take care of themselves in about 12 years. Over 60% of the country's annual tax revenues goes to pay for those two programs. We are bankrupt as a country and something has to change! So, what would you suggest we cut or do away with?How about we raise the federal tax rate to 50%? Since 43% of the nation doesn't pay any taxes that leaves the rest of us paying it all!

Interesting, but why not raise the tax rates on corporations and the top 2%, like the gop doesn't want. Under Idiot and Unelected Incompetent bush, with a gop majority Congress, they passed new tax codes in 2002 and 2003 that allowed us (the top 2%) to pay 17% in taxes, while our employees paid 30%+. And, the gop Majority and Idiot bush passed a 2.3% Foreign Corporate Tax Rate for companies that Fired Americans and Hired Foreigners for pennies on the dollar, pure genius. Be Well!

So I guess by teabaggers belief in paying the interest only, than those who can't afford their mortgage payments should just pay the interest on their loan. I am sure banks/mortgage co. would be thrilled if you called them and said I can't afford to pay my house note but I can send you a payment just on the interest on the loan. Of course they wouldn't foreclose on your house or show it on your credit report as long as you were paying just the interest on the loan, right teabaggers. lol

Matthews only makes one demonstrably false statement: that the Teahadists have "an ideology that makes sense" behind them. If it doesn't work in the real world (and it doesn't), it doesn't make sense. Policy has to pass an engineering analysis; it can't be right/ethical/moral/what have you if it doesn't work. That's why communism never worked either. Lots of lovely-sounding mush that fails as hard policy.

What do you think would happen if the US defaulted? I'll tell you, International investment in the US would plummet because the financial security and value would be undermined in the currency. A flood of debt assets would hit the markets as companies divest themselves of risk further devaluing the dollar. Nations would begin unloading both US bonds and the US dollar as a reserve currency as it would literally be a currency of no trusted value. What do you think this would do to US unemployment?

I agree, but I keep reminding myself that he fought an uphill battle since Day 1. I remember how the "blue dog" dems turned on him, causing some districts to go red. Blue Dogs may as well have been Tea Partyists, so he never had a majority. Repubs were in the news more often than at work. Then, Dem voters stayed home/turned against him (Wisconsin, etc), and freaked out when they got what they voted for, and have had to spend valuable time and money on recalls.
