I have always look forward to the cry of the Curlew when I visit a piece of ground just west of Pitlochry, Perthshire but have not heard them for three years. I ask walkers if they have heard them and none have been reported to me. Do hope they are thriving somewhere. Really glad but sad to listen to them here! Thank you for the recording.
Thanks again! If you would like to buy any of them I'm sure we could arrange something - or you could just watch the Youtube and National Geographic (betacygni) versions.
Fantastic video, they sing so nice and differently.

You've taught me the meaning of 'curlew'...that I came across in a poem...Happy Holidays! from San Francisco...Cheers!

Out in Galway at the moment, was lucky enough to see a pair of Curlews fly off over a small bay trilling to each other. So graceful and beautiful.

Childhoos memories here too although I did have the good fortune to encounter one recently on a visit to my birthplace.
What's special here is the silence, the suspended dynamic of the absence of all sound other than the bird, such that you can almost smell the heath.
Compare your grassland scene to meerkats in the kalhari! Such charm, and in the sky there is so much more grace than a wheeling gull

How could I get this curlew call as a ringtone. My dad is desperate for one.

The Curlew's song is the music that makes my fly-fishing outings that much more enjoyable.
