Phil X. has played for...everyone. Aldo Nova before this and is now a session guitarist. Any additional guitar on a Modern Rock album (Daughtry & Halestorm) or any guitar on a Pop album nowadays is likely him. Only Dann Huff, Michael Landau and Steve Lukather are the session guitarists on/above his level...all with AOR/Hard Rock backgrounds, too!
No disrespect to Rik either, but I love this album, every song on it absolutely kicks, great production too, I just wish they had come up with a new band name.
Edge of Excess was a good and underated album. I know they were talking of doing a second album with Phil X also singing lead vocals on some songs. Too bad it didn't happen. I actually saw him when he was with Aldo Nova before he joined Triumph.
I've been a Triumph fan since Just a Game. And after the disaster album Surveillance which we waited 3 years for, this was well worth the wait. Phil X is every bit as versatile a guitarist as Rik. A bit heavier, but that's where Triumph's strength is.
Being from a younger generation, "Edge of Excess" how I got into Triumph. Phil X's work on this album is totally amazing! Cannot imagine it could have been done any better.
I hate bands now that try to replace legands like bands of Journey and Forgeiner and this band let me give yea some advice it does not work what so ever. This band here triumph is not triumph with out Rik Emmett and Journey is not Journey with out Steve Perry so on and so forth

If it wasn't for Phil X I would've never been introduced to the greatness that is Triumph. Phil's playing blew my mind on this album!

No disrespect to Phil X but a Triumph with no Rik Emmett doesn't feel very triumphant.
