Lasers like that are lot powerful, meaning they deplete energy and generate lots of heat. Therefore it's activated briefly right before releasing ordnance or until the crew has to cease fire, hence why you see the label "laser firing" until it's put off. The beam is probably edited or result of that.

The laser isn't the weapon! The laser is what is used to target where the bomb is to be dropped. The bomb has a device in the nose that can see the laser and it follows that path set by the laser and that's why 'laser guided bombs' are so accurate.
