  • Nikos, where is this line? This is amazing!

  • Crossville was asleep at the wheel when NS announced abandonment. This was the early 1990s & the Tennessee Central's east end was intact with the exception between Monterey & Crossville. There was a propane dealer, a cross tie operation, Crossville Rubber, and a feed mill. A decent traffic base for 10 or so miles of track. Since then, NERR has reopened the line into Monterey for sand trains. Crossville wants the railroad back as it is at a disadvantage to Monterey and Putnam County.

  • Great video. Good choice of locations. Nice to see this part of the good old TC still in operation. Well remember riding trains over the Pine Creek bridge qne lookint down on the tree tops. Looks like the same rail is still in use too. Too bad the TC logo on the tunnel portall was blocked. Is this line still open to Crossville? I understand that the track has been removed between Crossville and Montrey and the ROW abandoned, lost for ever. If this is true, shame to the Tennessee DOT.

  • @wilmeaux12

Looking at Google Earth the tracks are gone from Crab Orchard to Crossville......

  • @wilmeaux12: Very neat to hear from another person who rode the route in its heyday, this would be a perfect line for a tourist operation if Franklin would allow it. The tracks to Crossville were pulled in the early 90's I believe, how NS was able to get FRA approval I dont know, surely there were some customers. I believe CSX pulled the Crossville to Monterey segment before selling it to N&E to prevent them from interchanging with NS and severing the through route.

  • @crazyrailfan: It shouldnt be an issue still, I've never had the problem before, it may be because I am using my still camera instead of the dedicated video camera, it happened on all the class 1 videos I did that day too.

  • @nikosjk1

We rode this line all the time when the Southern ran their excursion trains from Emory Gap to Crossville.........tall spindly wood trestles, a 2% grade and a tunnel........what more could you have asked for!!

Thanks for sharing this with us Nikos.

  • @CarNutandTrainNut2: Very cool!! Would have loved to ride a Southern steam excursion on this line, I'm surprised no one has any pictures of the excursions on this line, infact I cant find anything pre FIMX.

  • @nikosjk1

I think my mom has some old 8mm home movies and some old pics I took over the years of the trains.

  • @CarNutandTrainNut2: Those would be gold if you could find them and get them digitized!

  • @nikosjk1

I looked into it awhile back and just to convert the 8mm over to DVD was about $300 for what we have......

  • Absolutely sweet chase, dude. I've seen photos of this railroad on RRPA once or twice but this is the first time I've ever seen a video, much less any documentation of this railroad as comprehensive as this! Kickass work as always bro...

  • @TrainiacProductions: Thanks! I notice no one else posted a video too, strange, its a fun if out of the way chase.

  • Good video. Dude in the blue truck almost got hit by the dang train

  • @CVandergriff2008 Yeah, I was thinking I was about to see my first train-car collision..
