I carry a 5ml sachet of infant paracetamol suspension and a spoon/syinge with me in mine...it may not seem like an essential until faced with some kind of baby pain related screaming fit 2 hours from home...!
Wow...I absolutely LOVE your series! Just as you mentioned, "not everyone makes it through the diaper changing process unscathed", so if I know I'll be away from home for a good portion of the day, I include an extra light weight shirt for myself! Can ya tell I have a one year old son? :)
I'm glad you mentioned the extra shirt for yourself. Ever since I posted this video I thought I should have said that too. And then there is the drool that I have on the shoulders of all my shirts - I guess that gives away mother status too ;) Thanks for your comment on the series and belated congrats on your 1 year old son! I now have a two month old son in addition to Kayleigh (who is in the video)
What about a cell phone with video for baby's distraction, record her fav video on cell phone and play it on the car, plane anywhere when they start to get fuzzy. heheh it work for my baby!
You know, if you got these videos done professionally...I truly believe you'd be a multi millionaire in, ohh I don't know...days! New parents would fall in love with you, that's for sure.
I've been a nanny for 3 years, worked in the child care industry for 10. What do I always have on hand? WET ONES. I can't live without them :P
For some reason nail clippers always enter my diaper bag (as a nanny they are ever changing needs of diaper/kid bags), they find their way for cutting not only nails, but other scary things like skin flaps after a big fall. Bandaids become important (and light) once moving on their own. CASH in always in the inside pocket. And.....advil....for myself :D
I LOVE your videos! VERY entertaining and fun. :)

I always keep a bag in my truck with diapers for both boys and a change of clothes. Yes the brick of wipes. Only cause I use them on everything.

another good idea is to keep a separate bag in the car with extras/emergancy stuff that you wouldn't want in your carrying bag.
