well what i do is when you first get your chickens you need to hand feed them until you can start to pet them then you need to pet them regularly but alot of the time you need to give them a treat like a worm or food so they think when ever your around or you got to pet them they think there will be treats. then they will start to let you pick them up and they wont peck you

@MsCuteemochick you need to feed them from your hand, once they realise your not a threat but your a source of food- the chickens will get used to you over time mine took around 2 weeks to be realy tame, good luck

@schark30 @schark30 I wouldn't know too much about roosters. We have no need for them. We just buy our hens young from the farmers and raise them for eggs to eat. As far as what type of chickens to get for eggs, check out this link:

Fighting to establish "pecking order" occurs when animals can't get away from each other. Humans too - you can confront a badass boss, get out of his way, kiss ass, submit, quit. What if you can't afford to lose the job? what results when we can't be ourselves: stress, hypertension, ED. These hens were forced to establish pecking order. Clara wisely chose to get out of the way but there's no place to go. These hens need bigger pen. Personal space. Running space. Less stress. :-)
