i am attempting to build a torsion catapult . The part i cant figure out is how to tension the rope on a large catapult i know some people use hydraulics. however is there another way to do it. Also could you explain the steel pipe that houses the rope. Is it some type of home made bearing system?

ive heard alot of websites suggest nylon, because its the most elasticity (though its expensive for a first try)
i mean at the pumpkin chunk im pretty sure all the teams use it.

What kind of rope would you suggest using for a torsion powered catapult?

We use solid braid polyester, but some people have had better luck with twisted.
Chucky II launched a pumpkin 3070 feet with twisted polyester. It seems to work for them.
