  • kotogaeshi - is what the Japanese calls this waza/trick. The Japanese learned this from the Chinese, and originally it is all part of Chin Na. Chin Na is never taught independently outside a formalized martial art form of some sort.

  • Howcome its all old peopole following master Chen, I am disappointed how no younger aged people knew about this hidden treasure, they only know about mma,

but maybe that's a good thing.

  • @bigfatdick5000 I am practising Tai Chi for about a year and i just turned 17. If some of my "friends" knew about that or saw me training I would be considered a fool. Everyone is interested only in Muay Thai or Karate. But, in my opinion, Kung Fu is better not only, because it's stronger, but because of it's philosophy.

  • with seminars like this no one learns anything, but gets some good laughs at the 'mystical chinese kung fu powers'... i'll only do a self defense class if its a continual thing.

  • @GabrielGroverMan

'mystical chinese kung fu powers' lol

you don't even know what style this is and even Who that person is in the video before making that comment. He is Grandmaster Chen Xiao Wang, the current 19th generation lineage holder of Chen's Tai Chi, National treasure of China. You can''t see it physically , the force is internal, takes years to harness and extremely powerful anyone who has done one of these classes will tell you....

  • Looks like it was fun. Thanks for sharing!

    :o)

  • a very nice group sharing an evening with a kung fu expert. I saw excellence in technique from the instructor, but no students to learn from it.

but I actually got a lot from watching the fa jing. Interesting use of single whip too.

Very good instruction, thank you for posting.

  • Pearls and swines, I could cry. None of the guys is getting anything...

  • these people should watch that youtube clip of the chinese guy stabbing people at a chinese magistrates court...the guy was stabbing with fast brutal intent...frightening...this would be totally inadequate....get serious

  • i respect CXW very muc, but this technique against knife ist....let us call it: not so good.

and the students arent able to perform an easy omote gyaku. i would not show that on youtube....sorry

  • ...and this why there are no Tai Chi fighters. Ridiculous form, but at least good quality of movement from chen xiaowang.

    sparring, sparring, sparring, try it

  • chen xiao wang is one of the greatest but his students have no fighting experience.but though great video

  • Raymond you said Taijiquan is founded in the lore of religious Taoism

As far as I am aware Taijiquan translates as Supreme Ultimate Fist.

Are you suggesting that a Taoist developed a martial art fighting system?

    As for the video..

This one was a demonstration of the applications of the Taijiquan form.

    Listen to the laughter

The gracefulness of Taijiquan mixed with the fighting applications.

Truly a Yin & Yang balance

A very pleasant day was had by all

Maybe you should try it someday?

  • Taijiquan is founded in the lore of religious Taoism and is for mental, physical and spiritual cultivation. Its nature is in giving, helping and empowering peoples developement.

Teaching this high level art by Inflicting severe pain on people is at best bad teaching and at worst intimidation and abuse. Taijiquan means 'supreme ultimate' at its highest level is a great martial and a healing art which aims to cultivate original nature and life.

  • Raymond, to each his own, but I practise tai chi as a *martial* art. To my mind, feeling its devastating power is actually highly motivating. And feel it I did -- I'm the tall bloke in the red t-shirt who was subjected to the wrist lock towards the end of the clip :-)

  • You might want to check your Wade-Giles translation of Taijiquan. Quan means fist Ray. This is a martial art... there's no getting 'round it. If you like to pactice it for spiritual developement then crack on, but if you feel that you can tell the 19th generation Grand Master of Chen style Taijiquan something about how to teach this art? Well maybe you aren't as spiritually cultivated as you would have yourself believe.

  • The new practice of 'Tai Chi' has made up an imaginary Taoist origin, and translated the name into 'Supreme Ultimate', while claiming fantasy medical benefits. The documented martial practice of Taijiquan teaches that 'Grand Terminus Fist' is a method of deriving great power from the body's natural structure to deal with incoming and outgoing forces (possibly from an attacker). Although they share certain moves and postures, it is a mistake to confuse them with each other.

  • where was this seminar? interesting
