Every time i see this clip I remember Goffert when he was very tiny and just born, he was born raised on the farm of my parents in Frisia and then sold to the Iron Spring Farm where he found a new home.
My grandfather who did his first training was very proud when he came back for the celebration, brought tears to his eyes, Herbie will be missed...
In one of the latest issues of the magazine Equus (Issue # 381), researchers found that Friesian horses are more at risk to developing Megasophagus, which the issue states as "an abnormality in the passageway from the mouth to the stomach (esophagus) that can lead to obstruction and other complications". It says that this can lead to Pneumonia, Loss of Appetite, Weight Reduction or Colic. It's entirely possible that was a factor in his death, we may never know.
He had colic and was put down February 13, 2007 he produced 322 foals. 150 in 1999, 61 in 2000, 41 in 2001, 7 in 2002, 10 in 2003, 17 in 2004, and 36 in 2005.
He was a world champion and a Breyer was made for him. He was a fantastic stallion. I will never forget him. I am planning on making a tribute to hi, soon so keep watch.
I am so sorry Goffert, you were a great champion, with every step you took, the earth was a better place. Rest in Peace my friend. Goodbye, and we will miss you so much

Hi Arete77 - Colic is one of the most dangerous and costly equine medical problems, it is the number one killer of horses. A combination of signs alert us to abdominal pain in the horse.
Also Arete77, Colic is usually caused by spasm of the intestine; The digestive system of a horse is complicated. The small intestine alone is 60 feet long. Colic can originate from the small intestine or the large intestine.
Finally Arete77 - The entire digestive network is suspended and nourished by a thin membrane called the mesentery. Any malfunction, displacement, twisting, swelling, infection, or lesion of any part of this complex body system is what we recognize as colic. There seem to be countless situations which can precipitate colic. Many conditions causing colic become life-threatening in a relatively short period of time.
He sadly died from colic complications. What a great ambassador.. he was SO loved. By many here, and across the "big pond" .. He brought a smile to my face.
this is a great video but the slow motion and the song are a bit extensive for him, and he was an awesome horse, i feel so greatful to have seen him in real life at one of his performances which was brethtaking
I mourn the lost of this great Friesian! There will never be a Friesian a great as him! My feelings go out to the rider and owner of this great Friesian!

Theo and Rita - an incredible tribute to Goffert 369. The music was perfect. To Marcy Alice, Belinda and the staff at ISF I am so sorry for your loss. Goffert was something special. He will, however, live on through his sons and daughters.
To Belinda, ... My heart goes out to you, having been in your shoes. Your stewardship of Goffert 369 as a Friesian Ambassador for Dressage was one of elegance and class. May he rest in peace, and may you find solace in all the friends across the net that are grieving with you. Kind Regards, Shaana (Thank you Theo and Rita van Bruggen for a wonderful tribute)
